Declutter Homes Questions asked
Resolved Question: Need good sites to declutter and how to help a hoarder let go of there items.?
I have posted an other question about this friend who is being kicked out of his place by the 15th. I need to helop him and not sure how to start. We are having a city wide garage sale in my town. i am 30 minutes from his town. But can maybe have a yard sale at his home as well. With Hoarders does anyone know if he will flip or how to handle this sort of thing? Thanks for ideas. moreResolved Question: how can i organize and declutter my home and sort things out effectively?
hi everyone~ok i have been ignoring the clutter and disorganization that i live in,i am trying to make a start, but when i do nothing seems to change, any efective ideas advice or motivation much appreciated. i live in an old house which is my parents that needs so much repair,so itend to have clothes in suitcases, and piles of stuff everywhere,i am going to sort out the clothes by getting them done in the laundrete because im so overwhelmed with stuff even when they come back they have no place,i am on a limited income and cant completely fix up the house and remodel it,any cheap ideas, another big clutter problem is piles of magazines and newspapers i keep them for reference as i am interested in the beauty industry,i have no place to store them,i just cant cope with everything i have piles of bags with stuff and no where to put them i got in a bad rut,i also have stuff belong to my parents that i cant throw out as they are sentimental but they are adding to the clutter,if anyone has any thoughts on how i can tackle or get out of this please thank you moreResolved Question: How to live on less, save more money?
This might be helpful. This is for those who are trying to get through the reccession. To do this on a long term basis, decrease all unnessecary expenses. Instead of driving, carpool, walk, ride a bicycle or take public transportation. (1)Take a look around your house or apartment. Go through every room and get rid of the things you don't need. Your stress levels will plummet as you enter into clutter free rooms for the first time. Declutter! Sell all of your unwanted items to a thrift store (You keep landfills free of rubbish and you save more money). By selling your unwanted items to thrift stores, it aslso helps those businesses get revenue. Keep them to the the essentials (You need food, water and shelter to survive). (2)Closets:Clear out all of your closets. Ten outfits of clothing is plenty for one person. Sell all unused clothing to a thrift store (as well as closet hangers). It saves space and time for packing if you are planning to travel. (3)Food. Buy food in bulk. It lasts longer, you save more money and you lose weight without even thinking of going on a diet. Avoid grocery stores (they are too pricey). (4)Repair and maintenance. Repair your clothing by sewing. Have your purses repaired too. (5)Shopping. Buy all clothing at a used clothing store (Department stores charge more). (6)Internet. Use the Internet at a public library instead of at home. (7)Suitcases:Replace them with backpacks (You travel lighter and it saves you more time, money and effort). By doing so, you save a lot of time, money, effort and space. Your stress levels will plummet and you have a clearer head and more freedom (more quality time to spend with friends and family). Having less is better. Trying doing this on a long term basis. Here is one more suggestion: By spending less, put all money in your bank accounts to pay off all expenses (bills, debt etc). moreResolved Question: Why does clutter make you angry, anxious, nervous and upset. I have a lot of stuff, books and I find when?
when I get home I"M really anxious and nervous, I"m trying to declutter bu tI"d like to know what it psychically does to your energy and why? thanks!dont; tell me about niecy nash now, I know her gig very well !Oh you're not a dork at all, I tihnk I am partly a clean freak who feels out of control My grandmother had a house like a museum, with art and her rooms were like works of art , I have no idea how she raised 3 kids that way. BUt I can't be like that. I think object s just hold energy and I pick up on that energy. moreVoting Question: What to do about shopping bags?
Every time I get home from shopping I just leave the bags full of the stuff I just bought on the floor and it adds to the clutter. I'm going to declutter my house but I'm not sure what to do about all the clutter I get from just going shopping. I use the things I buy but if I don't need what I bought right that minute, it will just sit there and take up room. So what should I do?? Usually what I buy I need like clothing and other things moreResolved Question: How long did it take you to completely declutter your home?
Hi there, I'm on a bit of a journey. For as long as I can remember I've always had too much stuff. Its a trait passed on from my mom and from hers. I've been embracing the joy of purging and clearing out cupboards, but somehow it feels like there's never an end. Somedays I look around me and I feel overwhelmed. I'm sure there are folks that are far worse off then my husband and I are, in regards to our junk. But I find as I get older, I just want less stuff. How long of a journey is this going to be? How long did it take you to be rid of your 'stuff' and finally live better with less? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. moreResolved Question: Suggestions to reduce stress in the home?
My wife and I have recently noticed the level of stress in our home has increased. Much of it is related to our jobs (my company is in Chp11 so job security is an issue, her company is having issues also). We have two children, ages 10 months and 3 1/2, they are an absolute blessing, but keeping up with them can be challenging. Our mornings are rushed, and our afternoons are rushed to figure out and prepare dinner, play with and get the little ones down for the night...then we are exhausted and feel like we are letting ourselves and our house get further and further behind. Any ideas or suggestions from others out there in similar situations? Need ideas on how to better organize our time, declutter our home and lives, and learn to relax. moreResolved Question: Declutter / spring clean question?

I have a huge home and you would think with all the space it would make it easier to keep things organized. But with four children 3 of which are in elementary school (lots of papers hanging around) and one being a toddler, a husband who is a pack rat and myself trying to keep up with all of it is a huge task. Seriously i am at the point of getting a huge trash can and tossing anything no matter how important it is! I don't mind being the one doing all the housework considering i stay home and my husband works his ass off to support that decision. But now i am just overwhelmed with all the mess. I guess what i am looking for is any and all suggestions to try to declutter my home and find places for everything all while on a tight budget. It would be easy to just go and buy tons of organizers but honestly I've looked and that could get expensive. my trouble areas are kids rooms and laundry! moreResolved Question: How can I declutter my home and keep it tidy?
My husband & I started off in a tiny 1 bedroom flat. We were happy like that & figured we'd get a bigger place when I finished college & we were ready to start a family. But we had a contraception accident & we got pregnant earlier than planned. I had to give up college and now we have a beautiful baby but we are stuck in our tiny home with only one income. Everything is a big mess. We have no time, no energy, no space and even when I try to tidy up, there is no room to put anything. There are 3 of us in a tiny place that was meant for only one person. The place is a wreck. We need all our stuff but there is nowhere to put it and we can't find anywhere else till I have a job and we have 2 incomes. That's 3 years away and it seems like we're wasting our sons early years in this mess. I see families on tv where the child has his own little bedroom and it all looks so beautiful and it makes me cry to think we can't give that to our son. We have his cot and our bed and clothes and toys and everything in one room and it just looks like one big mess. I don't know where to start - even when I try to clean up, there is nowhere to put anything anyway! :( moreResolved Question: For mums of multiples...should i be dreading the crawling stage?....and...(lots of qs warning!!)?
....any tips on how to prepare my home / body / mind / teenagers for when my twins start crawling? i know the general drill with singletons...stair gates/declutter/remove dangerous objects etc, but are there extra things i will need to consider with twins? is it gonna be a logistical nightmare? my house has 3 levels...kitchen/living room/bedroom on different floors not by choice. wouldnt it be easier if one of them started crawling a few weeks before the other? what were ur experiences? moreResolved Question: Housewives - Do you find that your home looks lovely then...?
you start cleaning out the cupboards / drawers and hidden places and think my god! I like to keep my house neat and tidy, but dont alway get the chance to declutter drawers etc... and I was digusted with myself to all the rubbish and dirt I found. Is anyone else like this? God I feel so dirty now lol! Deb E - Agree with you 100%! I work part-time from home, have a two year old and one due in October, and my Hubby hasn't a clue what hard work is put into running a home lol! moreResolved Question: Is there anyone in here who has hired a home stager when selling their home?
I was looking into this as a career and wanted to see if it's a good thing to get into. A home stager is someone who helps you to declutter and make the home your selling more show home like, it helps people see themselves in that home. moreResolved Question: sell all my personal fiction and non fiction books?
I am at home and have hundreds of books which I want to sell to declutter my bookshelves. Any ideas how to sell online and make a small profit from postage. (Peakhurst, NSW, Australia) moreResolved Question: Serious Question for the environmentalists...?
Okay in my area we have one of the largest landfills where 6 states, plus places in Canada send their household wastes. And this landfill is rapidly filling up. Of course, no one else wants a landfill in their back yard. Most of the junk in our home is not suitable to be donated, nor is it something that is recyclable or can be put into something else, nor is it a case where someone would want to buy these broken down items. A lot of these are things like old broken electronics equipment and various outdated technology and odds and ends, broken toys, old junk that really needs to be gotten rid of. So, short of keeping it in my house or burning it, or wasting a lot of gas to drive it to a center that takes things like this (no place within 2 hours drive from our home), what options do we have to de-junk and declutter our homes? It seems like we would have to toss these things in a landfill. moreVoting Question: Why should you home stage your home?
Home staging is not a new concept but a tool used by relators, home owners who are selling their homes or a home owner who is updating their home decor. Home staging is now a revitalized tool in today's society to merchandise homes to get the highest and best value from the resale market. Mechandising is no different for products in any marketplace. In order to achieve the greatest value for your asset you must declutter, depersonalize, store, repaint, repair, replace tired furniture, rearrange furniture to showcase your home to obtain the highest and best value for the resale of your home. Potential buyers need to visualize living in the space available for resale. Upscale homes are staging and showcasing their homes to the hilt and obtaining 6.9% return on their investment that is above their asking price. Medium sized homes must use this concept so that their home sales can benefit from current market trends. Home sale motto is Stage it! Show it! and Sell it moreResolved Question: question about cleaning services?
I have a baby and the housework is taking a back seat right now. I am trying to do little by little but it just seems like so much. My house is so cluttered. How do cleaning services work? I have used a service in the past and they just cleaned but I need decluttering. Does this come with the service or do I need to find a special decluttering service? The main problem is our home office. How can I trust a service to come declutter for me and not steal? Also what do you think the price would be for a 1600 sq ft home? moreResolved Question: Any constructive comments on this home for sale appreciated- we have to sell after only one year here?
Please check out this link- http://s250.photobucket.com/albums/gg271/sreshowtime/ We have only been here 1 year, hubby has been downsized and we plan to leave this city. The home is on the market. I have tried to depersonalize and declutter. And I am very neat and clean,Very limited funds for any additional changes. Could re paint the 2 bedrooms at this time. Can not buy 'new' furniture, nor do any more remodeling. The master bath was just redone. If you would care to comment about what you see it would be appreciated. You might not like our personal belongings, but what is your overall thought on this house. Can't do much about outside, as it seems to snow every other day! Now this house is in Wichita Kansas, and from being here only a year, I don't know what these people consider 'in'....country decor seems to dominate....and so does boring beige. Care to help? Leave comments! Thank so much for your time...have a great day! moreResolved Question: Flylady is not working out - any other free sites that help you clean and declutter?
I signed up for flylady.net 2 weeks ago. I thought the concept was a good idea. Since then, I have been way too overwhelmed with all the emails I get from that site. I had to unsubscribe. Even when I go the the flylady website, I feel overwhelmed because it's very disorganized (in my opinion). I know it worked for many people but for me, I need more clear cut instructions, and straightforward daily tasks. Any other free websites that help you to declutter and clean up your home? Thanks! moreResolved Question: How do you handle clutter in your home?
I have a hard time with clutter. I try to declutter, but it doesn't seem to work for long. In my house, an empty flat surface is an invitation to pile something on. What methods do you use to declutter?I am very interested in getting it taken care of. Once it's gone, it will be a lot easier to prevent from returning. moreResolved Question: How can my husband and I declutter a 900 sq ft apartment that's clearly too small for us?
We are a childless couple and live in a small apartment. It's a 2 bedroom apartment with an open concept living room/dining room and a small kitchen. I study from home and my husband works from home, so we've managed to cram 2 computers in our place, and a whole bunch of my husband's other stuff. Since he started working from home, he had to empty his office and all of his office stuff came home. We've already filled up our storage locker, his office (that's the second bedroom) and there's even stuff in the living room. We don't know what to do. Ideally, we feel like we definitely need to move in a house, because once we have kids, we're going to have to. But, in the meantime, what should we do? I'm thinking maybe rent a public storage space, because I think we definitely need one. moreResolved Question: how to clear out my life and make career decisions?
2 problems: 1. My home is always messy, washing up in bowl, clothes all over place, paperwork everywhere. I don't like to throw stuff away as have green principles, or think - I might need that old bill for future reference etc, old career details for future job changes etc. I spend all my time tidying yet never seem to acheive much. I've read all the declutter your life books, know u should do "little and often" for housework but still I cant change my ways & if I know people are going to visit I spend hours running around trying to clean, tidy & hide stuff. I want to be better organised & spend minimum time tidying but it whatever I throw away always seems to be the thing I need a few months later, & housework seems such a huge mountain to climb. 2. I'm very creative & want to change career, take new courses but procrastinate forever as cant choose whats best for me. I'm not getting any younger & want to improve my career & home life before I'm stuck 4 life. Help!! moreResolved Question: I am currently de-cluttering my newly renovated home? I'm trying to declutter our house but my other half keeps bringing more yard sale/second-hand shop junk home and leaving it all over the place. Other than that, he's a totally PERFECT husband. :) Any suggestions on how to curb his pack rat tendencies? moreResolved Question: Should I keep a present that I don't like, but the thought was really sweet?
Like 6 years ago, a guy friend who was interested in me made this super cute personalized CD with 12 songs on it that he thought would be cool for us. We never hooked up, but remain friendly the 1 or 2 times a year I still run into him. I think he's a good guy, but just not the boy for me. So, I can't stand the music on the CD. It's like techno/dance/electronica, and I have listened to it all the way through, and ....NO. I don't dig it. To be quite frank, it gives me a wretched headache. I am trying to declutter, and I am getting rid of all my old CDs that I don't like, because it is really important to me to have a nice, clean beautiful home, without clutter and useless junk. It hurts me think about throwing this away though, because it has a personalized label and a cute little picture and sleeve, and the idea that anyone went through that much work to make something nice for me is so sweet. I just love the idea of it and wonder if I throw it out, it will disrespect karma. moreResolved Question: How do i declutter my home and attic of things ?
