Voting Question: Travelling from Belfast to Gatwick and back this weekend. What are your rights if flights are cancelled?

Does the airline have to legally get you home - is it better to get another flight- does your airline have to pay for other flights/ hotels/ other expenses incurred (missed theatre tickets, etc?) If you are in the departure lounge where do you go? If the airport is closed before you leave home what happens? Currently I have no insurance as it's just an overnight stay! more

Resolved Question: Has anyone flown with Ryyan?, and what did you think of them?

My cousin was over from the states, and was travelling from Luton to Dublin, we booked the tickets on the net,and got our boarding passes at the same time.we got as far as the gate to board the plane without anyone checking the tickets, Anyway, they wouldnt let my cousin on, because he didnt have a visa stamp to enter Dublin,So , we missed the flight,it werent going to leave for another half hour. So, we ended up paying another £200,each to fly out on a flight 4 hours later. The joke is 1) When they stamped his ticket, it was just a blur, nothing could be read, anyone could have put the stamp. 2) Had he flown to Belfast, he wouldnt need the visa, and he could have jumped in a car and drove down to Dublin(about 100 miles)with no check points or border checks. I have done this myself. more

Resolved Question: If i was able to get to the USA under my own steam legally?

If i was able to go to the USA under my own steam and i decided i wanted to return home the US government wouldn't insist on paying my fare, and say if a month later i wanted to go back to the states they wouldn't insist on paying the fare for that and then lets say i wanted to go home again to bring the rest of the family over they sure as hell wouldn't pick the tab up. If thats the case why did the Northern Ireland office pay for 70 Romany Gypsies who came to Belfast on their own bat to go home again (payed for by the NIO) then insisted then pay for the return flight back to Belfast when they decided they did want to go back to Belfast? they weren't invited, i'm lucky to get my own street cleaned once a month but they can afford to pay for 140 air fares, not forgetting all the extended family they flew over as well. Do you think maybe the NIO and Belfast council were trying to show we aren't bigoted? thats a joke in itself!Guy: i wasn't having a dig at the States the question was about my tax money being used to fly economic migrants out then fly them and their families back over again. An expert in brain sugery yes, no problem there but Romany Gypsies? more

Resolved Question: Where can i find me some of these mythical hard working?

Romanian Gypsies that i hear so much about. For those that don't know a while back over 100 Romany gypsies in Belfast were living in 3 houses turning the area into a pig sty. The locals were in uproar community leaders became involved to calm things down then the left wingers got involved when it wasn't their business and made things 10 times worse. Romanies were chased out as were the liberals back to their own areas. The romanies were given free flights home if wanted and free alternative accommodation elsewhere at tax payers expense when nobody asked them to come over. Now they've come back again, i think the NIO payed for their flights back over only thing is they are now in areas where before they wouldn't have been as they are now untouchable. Selling the Belfast telegraph at the junction of Finaghy south and malone road (posh south belfast) Its good to see skilled much needed workers (sarcasm) selling newspapers and asking for spare change. Where can i get me some of these people? I have a conversion to do on a row of terraced houses, the owners think the houses aren't rustic enough.NLV: Narnia more like mu mu land.NLV: Narnia more like mu mu land.oxfam for them is a high end fashion shopWka these were anything but well meaning, they through the first brick! and then ran like kids when they found out the hard way they aren't called no go areas for nothing.I apologise for my spelling, don't know whats wrong with me todayCrow: whats so funny is if the "others" came into my area to cause trouble we would have every right to defend ourselves with brute force and weapons. But if the Romanies came in to take part or do illegal activities we couldn't do nothing about it. They have the law on their side. Standing down in South Belfast like lord muck selling newspapers and tapping through car windows. Any other vendor has to be fully licensed and vetted and carry ID. more

Resolved Question: Is this another disguised penalty for air travellers ?

Hi Folks, Not strictly a financial one, but a time penalty. I looked up the shedules for all Easyjet flights out of Luton, going from anywhere from Egypt to Stockholm, Belfast to Tel Aviv. All 39 of them. Then I set to with the fine Microsoft flight simulator, and using the same aircraft as Easyjet, have averaged a 26% reduction overall in flight time. I am lucky in having an aquaintance who is an Easyjet pilot, and put this to him. Being a company man, he naturally went into some detail about this, but the bottom line was pilots are instructed to fly at lower altitudes, at lower throttle settings to economise on fuel. I suppose that you could justify this by saying that an extra 40 mins to Budapest won't hurt, and the flights are cheaper. But not many are aware that it is their time that is being eroded by this practice. Any thoughts ? Bob more

Resolved Question: Royal financial report: Private Jets and the environment?

This is not a rant, but I think there is a missed opportunity here. In the fiscal year end report of the royal family the travel costs have gone up considerably. The travel expenses of the Queen, Prince Andrew, and Princess Anne all dropped by substantial amounts, but Prince Charles costs zoomed 50% largely because of expensive jet charters to promote his environmental causes. - The most expensive domestic jet charter was £33,400 for an overnight trip from London to Belfast City on 20-21 May-2008. That is a distance of 310 miles each way. In contrast, Ryan Air gets £8,500 in ticket sales each way, and another £5,000 goes to taxes and fees if it fill every one of 189 seats on it's Boeing 737-800 that flies from Stansted to Belfast City. ------------ My question is if he is going to give public lectures on environmental awareness, would it be possible if he could rent a sexy little turboprop to do these short flights. I know they are only 9 seaters, but perhaps some of his staff could fly commercial. Their economical cruise speed is 368 mph, but they can go as fast as 455 mph. http://www.piaggioaero.com/#/en ---------------------- Businessmen can rent a 4 seat air taxi (no private bathroom) for £2,600 that can fly out of Northolt Airport (same airport the royals use) and go anywhere in the UK same day return. That may be undignified for royal use, but isn't there some middle ground between dignity and concern for the environment? Prince Charles can set an example for the business community. ============= BTW, the highest "per mile" charge was £8,885 to go one way from Humberside airport to Northolt (139.5 miles). That is almost nothing but takeoff and approach. I would think that they would normally use their helicopter which can cruise at 215 mph and fly for almost 400 miles. Perhaps it was busy or in maintenance. ============= The report does not list the type of aircraft, but I assure you that it is a big one for that price. Do you think he is missing an opportunity to show some concern for the environment?PLZ do not compare with the cost of transporting the POTUS. He is the most expensive person in the entire world to move (even a hundred miles). They usually have a half a dozen helicopters for security and to confuse anyone with a shoulder launched missile. When he goes out to dinner he could probably buy the restaurant for what the security detail costs. The BAe 146 that the RAF has been using for the past 25 years carries 116 people in "tourist configuration", but is configured for 19 people in "executive configuration". The RAF jet can protect from infrared missiles. ------------ However, the RAF jet is getting old, and the royal family competes with the ministers. They are increasingly chartering private aircraft, even for domestic flights. So the royal household wants to purchase a newer version of the same aircraft. (but still used since these aircraft have not been manufactured for 7 years) for royal use only (no ministers). ------------------------ I am saying it is a large jet for domestic use, considering the very short distances. more

Resolved Question: which london airport is closet to city centre, also any links of cheap hotels and b&b's.?

trying to get a cheap flight to london from belfast or dublin, as i live in ireland. i don't book online that much that's why i am asking, would like to see bit of london for a cheap holiday, but cant afford too much and where can i get the cheapest flight and hotels, or b&b's. thanksi know it's not that cheap there, but i have spending money, going out money and bit of tour money. but still need to save money on travela and accomadation. thanksany online flights just say luton, standsted, hethrow not city, where online do you book?? sorry for bad spelling. more

Resolved Question: Are you familiar with aircraft charter prices (expensive)?

On a UK expense account I see: (1) £15,080 for a one day charter from one airport in southern England to Belfast City and returning to a different airport (68 miles from the original airport [ 268.5+309.6= 578.1 miles] (2) £33,400 for an overnight charter same route leaving and returning to the same airport [309.6+309.6 = 619.2 miles] ------------- That is four flight legs totalling 1200 miles for almost £50 thousand ($80K). What kind of jets could these possibly be that would be that expensive ? I though even heavy business jets were a lot less than that. Is that what a Boeing Business Jet or an Airbus 219 costs to charter?$80K for four short hops? more
