Open Question: Can a US Citizen/Tourist for 6 months fly into Dublin and take a bus to Belfast?

I have plans to live in Belfast for five months as a visitor and tourist of the United Kingdom. However, rarely do cheaper airlines fly to Belfast, so I'm looking into flights to Dublin then a bus to Belfast. I've gotten mixed messages from customs in that, if I fly into Dublin, I'd have to show a return ticket for 90 days because it's the Republic of Ireland (Dublin is a part of Ireland while Belfast is a part of Northern Ireland-a different country, part of UK with different rules). Belfast's customs say that a US citizen can stay for up to 6 months as a visitor, but since I'd be flying into Dublin, me insisting that I wouldn't live there doesn't count techincally. Get it? Hard to explain. So, I'd like to know if any of you out there in internet world have traveled to Belfast through Dublin and stayed for more than 90 days. Otherwise, we'd have to take a plan from Chicago, to London, to Belfast....thousands of $$$! PLEASE HELP! NEED TO GET PLANE TICKETS ASAP! Any travelers advice is appreciated! more

Resolved Question: Are there ANY airlines that have flights from the USA to UK for under $350 a ticket per person?

I need to go to the UK in May but the prices to get there are just outrageous, especially on the big carriers like American, British, Continental, etc. Even the prices on Tuesdays which are usually the cheapest days, the average price seems to be way over $450 per person. Apparently there's charter airlines that go between Canada and the UK for really low fares but I live too far from any major Canadian city to make it worthwhile to drive there. Are there ANY charter airlines between the US and UK with decent prices? All the low cost one's like Fly Globe Span have gone under.I know that US Airways usually has decent rates, I've flown with them before to MAN but they're still asking over $450 for the flight I need with a connection to Philadelphia. more

Hello Planning on going away this time and wondered if its going to as quiet as it possibly can be? Trying to pick a time where UK kids and US kids are going to be at a minimum and queues etc are going to be as short as they can be? Looking at staying in the Oak Plantation Resort - Vacation Villas with flights and a basic car is about 1800 for 2 so 900 pounds each? Yes, I'm back with another series of questions about Thailand (something I omitted in my first set of questions because I didn't want to have too many topics flying around). Thanks again for those who really helped me with my previous questions, by the way. I received some really helpful tips. Ok here we go. I put in as much detail as I could to elaborate on the situation I'm in. Because I'm pressed for time (something unavoidable), I'm cutting a lot of my time short in Thailand to see as much as I can. A portion of my trip will include a day trip to Sukhothai (via Phitsanulok) and 2 days in Chiang Mai before returning to Bangkok. This schedule can't be changed due to time constraints and because of the 2 other blokes I'm traveling with. 1. From Bangkok to Phitsanulok, I was thinking of taking a train. I went online to find a train schedule, but the ones I found were either from a blog in Thai or just really confusing English. Is there a sleeper-train from Bangkok that can bring me to Phitsanulok in the morning? If so, how long is the train ride and around how much would a one-way ticket cost? 2. On the same day after spending the day in Sukhothai, I wanted to head up to Chiang Mai. What's the recommended way to get there from Phitsanulok station - by bus or by train? With your recommended mode of transportation (bus or train), how long would the commute be and roughly how much? 3. After spending sometime in Chiang Mai, I was recommended to fly back to Bangkok because it's faster allowing more time for me to decompress and get ready for more Bangkok sightseeing. What airlines do you recommend I fly if I want to get back into Bangkok cheaply? 4. Also, I was told that I should just book the flight when in Thailand versus before I head out because it will be cheaper to buy it in there. Is this true? If so, where do you recommend I go to buy tickets (for 3 people) one way from Chiang Mai to Bangkok? Lastly, what is the average ball park for a flight from Chiang Mai to Bangkok (I don't want to get ripped off). Thank you SO much for helping me with all my gazillion questions. Ok, before you even say it, I already searched Kayak which lists ALL of the discount ticket sites. I'm going from BOS to FLL departing 3/12 or 3/13 and returning on 3/21. The cheapest tickets I could find were around $500 (round trip). I'm traveling with one other person, so I need two tickets. We are flexible about which airport we leave from as long as it is in the Boston Area. My question is two-fold....do you know of anywhere that they are selling tickets for when I would be traveling that would be closer to $200-$300 roundtrip, and are there any other ways (such as a stand-by ticket) to get around the expensive fairs? If we wait longer, do the flights get cheaper? more

I work remotely from home and my employer is located in another city approximately 7 hours. The PC that I was given had a virus to attack and it appears that we have not been able to remove it completely even with Antivirus software. When the virus attacks, I am always able to get rid of it by scanning the PC, however, there appears to be a vulnerability because I get attacked almost every week. As a result, my PC needs to be re-imaged at the home office. I found a cheap ticket (under $200) to the home office and told my employer that I could fly up any time during the week. He said that catching a flight is cost prohibited since I didn't give them at least 2 weeks notice. I explained that I couldn't have given notice since the virus wasn't planned. In addition, their solution is for me to drive 7 hours each way to get the PC re-imaged. I told him that driving 14 hours in one day is unrealistic. He stated that they may be willing to pay for a hotel overnight, and I stated that paying for the plane ticket would be cheaper than driving and then staying in a hotel. In addition, driving would add an additional travel day away from the office, whereas with the flight, I could be back the same day and then at work the entire next day. Furthermore, he wants me to drive up early next week and I just can't drive up and stay overnight next week because of other commitments that I have made during the week. I told him that if I had to stay overnight, I could travel during the week of March 29th since my kids will be out of school. He told me that he doesn't really want me to use the PC again, which would mean that I couldn't work. Furthermore, I asked if they could send me a loaner PC overnight, and I send them my PC overnight for re-imaging. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this situation with my employer further? I feel like I'm cornered since they won't pay for a ticket, don't want me to use my computer anymore, and want me to travel in a few days.Employer stated that sending the PC via Fedex overnight is a security violation. more

They're so damn expensive and from what little I know about them it does not seem worth spending $200 on a iPod touch rather than on other things (aren't flight tickets cheaper and more worth the investment?). $200 is not ALOT of money but as I have to ask my parents to buy it for me I feel rather guilty buying something that I may not like. I'm currently planning a trip to London in a few months, and I've noticed that the taxes and fees have risen considerably since last year. All the airlines say a r/t ticket costs $300-$500, but the taxes and fees are another $400-$500, almost doubling the price. I've found tickets to Amsterdam that are cheaper, and that's a farther flight. Furthermore, it's about $150 cheaper if you do the r/t from London -> NYC -> London. Does anyone know why this is?
