I recently went to the Philippines, to a private hospital, and had surgery to correct a deviated septum. The surgery went very well. The American doctors I talked to wanted an insane $12,000 for the procedure. My insurance only would have covered 80%, which would mean a $2,400 bill dumped on me. Instead, I booked a $950 flight to Manila and had the procedure done for $1000 flat at the hospital. That included my room and board. When you add in my other expenses, I basically got surgery + a fun tropical beach vacation for the price the American hospital would have gouged me just for the surgery - and I'm insured! American doctors are some of the biggest ripoff artists out there. All they care about are their Jaguar payments and country club membership fees. Instead of whining about healthcare prices in America, just go overseas. If you don't want to fly across the Pacific, there are also places in Costa Rica, Panama, and Mexico with good reputations. Seriously; why don't more Americans do this? Why do they just choose to whine? more

I've bought tickets from: KL - Kota Kinabalu (11.10am - 1.40pm) and Kota Kinabalu - Manila (4.20pm - 6.15pm) It is more cheaper than direct plane (I've surveyed about a week now). My question is - do u think I can make in time for the second flight? That is the only flight available for KK - Manila at later time. No other time available. I don't think I want to overnight at KK after having shopping spree at KL and with all those big baggage. Any advice? **I've paid the tickets.I just worried if KL - KK flight would be delayed and this will affect my flight from KK - Manila. Since AirAsia don't refund our money incase we don't show up (if 1st flight delayed), so it will cost more fortune to buy new tickets. We are planning to go to Boracay, however we need to transit at Kalibo from Manila and our flight will touch down about 6.30pm. We are thinking to take bus to Caticlan (which is around 2 hour journey). We are not so sure if we can get any last boat from Caticlan to Boracay around 9pm. So, if anyone know there is any cheap hotels/backpacker rooms around caticlan so we can stay for one night before going to boracay the next morning? more

I understand that to enter into the Philippines, even with the intention of staying a while, one must have a return flight out of the Philippines or an onward flight out of the Philippines. I also understand that Immigration doesn’t care where the destination is so long as you intend to leave after the initial 21 days is up. What I want to know is … does it matter where that return or onward ticket comes from? I am putting together flights for my son and I using 1 way tickets, which are a little cheaper on my pocketbook, as we will be joining my husband in the Philippines, and we will be filing for a 13a upon arrival. So we will not be needing the onward ticket, and since it is not always easy to get refunds on tickets without paying extra for a refundable tickets. So checking around I have found the cheapest options to come from Cebu Pacific from Manila to Taipei, and I was wondering if it would make a difference if I bought eTickets from Cebu Pacific and print out the itinerary and show that to Immigration upon arrival into Manila as my exit information? Or do I have to have a different carrier as my onward flight information to get past Immigration upon entrance into Manila? Any help or information is always greatly appreciated. I'm trying to find a cheap flight to Manila, Philippines either tomorrow (Friday July 24th) or Saturday July 25th. I want to come back on Saturday August 1st. Cebu Pacific Air and Phillipine Airlines have relatively low fares but they are both duds since they don't accept American credit cards. Both my parents and I tried buying tickets through them with all our credit cards and they just won't accept them. The reason this is at the last minute is that I am teaching English in Thailand and Thai people have this cultural thing where they really don't plan ahead or allow their employees to do so either. Simple things like telling people when their vacation time is in ADVANCE is just something that hasn't really developed yet in Thai culture, at least not where I teach. I'm trying to find flights for $200.00 or less. I found a flight through JetStar from Bangkok to Singapore for $93.00, but I can't find a reasonably priced flight from Singapore to Manila. If there aren't flights from Bangkok to Manila, a flight from somewhere else in Thailand to somewhere else in the Philippines could in theory work as well. Please help! Thanks! more

Im gonna go to Manila if possible in February n March 2010 for - if possible - 59 days. My primary goal is to come to know my Filipina gf from Northern Caloocan. Of course I think abt going to Puerto Galera w/my gf too for using this occasion in the best way. Essential r cheapest possible costs, so I decided to ask for cheapest flight now. Well, I could find out that after booking flight I must pay in 72 hours. It means that I must get my visa as quickly as possible to hv one affordable offer which satisfies me n to be very close to 59 days of being there. So I start thinking abt applying for a visa: - visa validity as I could see is only 3 months but I need not less than 6 months, - what to type in motivational letter I hv been pointed to write to give a good reason I want to stay there for almost 2 months: if to accent Im going there to see my gf n summit her rented house as my hotel there or to accent tourist reason - but I need time to find accomodation in Puerto Galera maybe being on the place, -if they need hotels n itinerary in a visa application, will they check it during processing or later? - is it probable that they will deny me? As I could see it is more difficult than to get to Thailand for 3 weeks. more

Hi everyone, This is quite urgent coz I'm going to Philippines on Wednesday night from Singapore. I'll arrive in Clark airport and have to go to Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City (near Makati & Ayala Avenue). I have learnt that there's a bus from Clark to Manila costs 300-350 peso, here are my questions: 1. The bus stops at SM Megamall and Pasay. I don't understand where exactly Pasay is, is it the Victory Liner bus station in Pasay city, or is it Pasay near the other airport NAIA? At which stop should I alight to get to Dusit Thani faster? Will the bus driver stops somewhere along the way if I request him to (somewhere I can get to the hotel faster). 2. Let say I stop at SM Megamall, I've learnt that it's near an MRT station called Shaw Boulevard. It's easy to use the MRT to travel from Shaw Boulevard to Ayala MRT isn't it? I would prefer MRT to taxi coz it's cheaper and can avoid the heavy traffic. 3. My flight back to Singapore is 3.30pm on Saturday. Is the traffic heavy on weekend or it's faster than normal day. I'm not sure should I take an early bus to Angeles city and tour around while waiting for the flight, or just hanging in Makati and wait for the 10.30am or 11.30 am to get to Clark airport directly. Hey guys, I am going to the Philippines later this year, and just wanted to know if all my research is accurate or am I just looking in the wrong places. In general, I am finding that the cost of a flight from Atlanta to Manila is going to cost roughly $1500.
