Resolved Question: Cheapest locations for flight training?

I am a Nigerian citizen currently studying at university in england but my ultimate goal is to be a pilot, as you might know its quite expensive. So i would like to kno if anyone could actually suggest countries where i could get good training for a quite modest amount as england is way at more than i can afford.I would like to know the right ways to choose a flight school, also even if i get to training at a flight school i can afford, if i end up having to work in another country lets say america or even england. Would the conversion of the license be hectic, if lets say i trained in South africa. Also, in choosing a flight school, i would want it to be from a country respected for their pilot training( not one where i have to struggle to find work after i have concluded it and spent a lot of money). (Note: I'm interested in an airline career, which would require an additional license, the ATP.) I've discovered that getting my training abroad is a much cheaper alternative, depending on the country. Factors include the local economy (i.e., general cost of anything), local demand for pilots (e.g., Australia is only developed on its coast, so people prefer to fly across the outback rather than drive through it). I'm able to pick languages up reasonably quickly, so training in a non-English-speaking country is likely not a problem either. In other words, I don't think I have any real restrictions in terms of where I can study. My only restriction is that I'd like to complete my training within a two-year timeframe, this rules out "aviation colleges" with four-year degree programs. So my question is: Given that I'm willing to travel almost anywhere in the world, what are my cheapest options full pilot training from 0 - ATPL(Frozen)? Researcher beware, the answer to this question will require a few hours of research incorporating a variety of sources. I hope the background information and example countries I've provided serve as a sufficient basis to start from. Thanks in advance for your time and effort!thanks for your response, sori i put my words wrong. I know it would be expensive anywhere i decide to do it, but what i actually meant was the cheapest of any location responding to Patriotgal. I have actually checked locations Such as S.A,usa, canada and so on and to respond to Russia, i have definately done a lot of research into countries such as australia, south africa, new zealand and so on. But as you might know, some of this flight schools make every thing sound so easy, so my reason for my question was actually to see if i could talk to someone with some kind of experience doing it. From my research i can say S.A is the cheapest but there again there could be some form of discrimination from where you obtain your license.( probably because they think the aviation body of the country isnt credible enough)..As we regards to the research,i apologize for that. I gt it of an article i read on google answers which got sum very good response.i am 19 so i'm still quite confused.thanks more

Resolved Question: Costs for a month in South Africa?

Okay, so February 17th I'm going to South Africa with a family friend as a part of a whole life training course extravaganza. We'll be getting a return from UK to Joburg, do the week there, then an internal return flight from Joburg to Durban, do the week there, than after the return to Joburg there's another week there after which we'll get a return to Cape Town for the week there so that we can go back to Joburg and have got a cheaper return flight instead of two one ways to Joburg and than back from Cape Town. From what I've found online I can get those for an overall of £673. Accommodation's being sorted out for me and, since I'll technically be going as a part of the training team, I'm pretty sure food is too, though if it isn't than from my knowledge a months worth would cost me about £100, going by UK living costs and baring in mind breakfast and laundry will be sorted out for me too. I'll take an extra hundred for emergency and spending. So, £873 to go there, probably with £100 odd quid spent on buying things for the trip itself. This is my first time organizing something like this, so does that seem reasonable? Is there anything I've overlooked? I just need some advice from people who know about this kind of thing. Any help (literally, ANY, even if it's just to say it looks fine) is very appreciated :)Polly: It's not so much about how much I'm taking but how much I'll need to have, since right now I'm broke and need to figure out how much money I'll need to make so I can plan accordingly. more

Resolved Question: Cheap flight from Chicago to Johannesburg?

Does anyone know a good place to get cheap airline tickets from Chicago, USA to Johannesburg, South Africa? I have looked all over the internet, but most of the offers are flat-out horrendous! I was hoping to find someone who hs possibly made the trip from the US to South Africa, and vice versa. Maybe someone out there can point me in the right direction. more

Resolved Question: Rather than fly direct to Uganda, I could fly to Cairo and then fly to Uganda. Savings: $260. Would this work?

I've spent probably 5+ hours looking into every possible way I can save money on my upcoming flight. I will be purchasing the tickets in 2 weeks. I'm going to Uganda at the end of January for 3 months. Direct flights there range from $1360 (my local airport) to $1277 (Chicago or Newark). I've looked into flying in to London, Belgium, Paris, Kenya, South Africa, and so forth to see if having two flights would be cheaper than one. And I've finally found one that is: Chicago to Cairo and Cairo to Uganda. Price: $1100 total ($700 and $400 incl. taxes & fees-all airlines allow 1 free checked bag) This will be only my third time flying ever, and my first time flying internationally (or for more than 5 hours, for that matter). Without leaving the airport, would I be allowed to arrive in Cairo at 6:20 pm and stay there until my flight leaves at 2:00 am? Would there be any problems with this so long as I don't leave? Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Can I check in at my departing airport for the second leg of my journey if it is on a different booking ref?

I am flying to South Africa and have booked each leg of my journey separately (cheaper!). I am flying Manchester to Heathrow on one booking reference number then Heathrow to J'burg via Madrid on a different reference number. Can I check my bag in at Manchester through to J'burg or will I have to collect it at Heathrow and check in for my second flight? Will I get my boarding pass for all flights at Manchester? I have done so in the past but I have always booked it as a 'package' with one booking reference. more

Resolved Question: Does anyone know where I can get cheap flights from Accra in Ghana to Johannesberg in South Africa?

Resolved Question: How much does it cost to travel around the world?

I know it depends on many factors but I'd love to have an estimate. I'll be travelling for about a year visiting 25 countries. Below I have listed the countries I'm going including how long I'll be staying in each country. Iraq - 4 weeks Iran - 2 weeks Saudi Arabia - 3 weeks Syria - 2 weeks Turkey - 2 weeks Palestine - 2 weeks Pakistan - 4 weeks Dubai - 2 weeks Thailand - 2 weeks Japan - 2 weeks China - 2 weeks Indonesia - 2 weeks Malaysia - 2 weeks Egypt - 2 weeks South Africa - 4 weeks France - 2 weeks Italy - 2 weeks Spain - 2 weeks Switzerland - 2 weeks Australia - 2 weeks New Zealand - 2 weeks USA - 4 weeks Jamaica - 2 weeks Venezuela - 2 weeks Brazil - 2 weeks I think I'll need about £35K for everything although I'd love to cut down. This amount includes the flights, packing up and travel insurance (basically everything I need before leaving) which I think should be about £5K. I don't fancy staying at cheap unsafe hostels so I'll be staying at reasonably priced secure hotels. I won't be working while I'm there as it's really meant to be a holiday for me to relax. I don't drink or smoke so I won't need to spend anything on that. What do you guys think? How much do I need? Any help will be highly appreciated. Thank you. more

Resolved Question: How can I find cheap/reasonably priced tickets to South Africa?

I studied abroad in South Africa and absolutely loved it. but flights there have risen. I am trying to go back this summer, probably after the world cup. Resolved Question: What is the cheapest way to go to south africa for 2010 world cup?

Well England's place in the world cup is now confirmed and it would be great to go over there and watch them. With the world cup it seems confusing to me how you would actually organise a trip over there. Especially at this stage when you do not even know which city England will be playing in or even how far in the tournament they will get. The obvious thing would be to organise the flight over there. Had a look before and there was one for just less than £500, arriving on 7th June and returning on 13th July. The world cup begins on the 11th June and ends on the 11th July. Where is the cheapest place to get a flight to South Africa (Johannesburg) or is there cheaper way of getting there from England? Next would be accomodation. What is cheap source of accomodation. Now since matches will be held in various cities, I would need accomodation in various cities. Or would just one city be ok and would it be easy to travel from city to city? How big is South Africa? For tickets I would need to apply on the FIFA website. How can I organise a trip for the duration of the world cup in the cheapest, most convenient way? more

Resolved Question: Does anyone know the cheapest way to get to South Africa from Mexico WITHOUT going via the US.?

Resolved Question: Making airline reservations through two different airlines...can I check in for both flights with the first?

I live in Santiago, Chile and will be flying to Port Elizabeth, South Africa this December. I have found that it's much cheaper to fly to Buenos Aires first using a Chilean airline, and then purchasing a separate ticket from South African Airlines from Buenos Aires to Port Elizabeth. Is there any way that the first airline can combine the two reservations so that I don't have to actually enter into Argentina? (I want to avoid paying the visa fee and also avoid having to claim my luggage and going through the check-in process all over again). I'm sure there has to be some airline employee who knows the answer to this one... :) more

Resolved Question: Volunteer work - South Africa - any ideas?

I'm a 24 South-African girl. This year I wanted to do something productive with my holiday. I planned for the past year to go do some volunteer work at a Chimp sanctuary in the Congo. But with the political status this doesn't seem possible anymore. Then I heard of a similar place in Namibia, But the costs they charge are very very high and way over my budget and then you still need to think about flights, medical expenses etc. Then I heard of a place in South-Africa. I thought it will be cheaper. (less traveling costs) but to my disappointment they charge volunteers in dollars as well.....so obviously way over my South-Africa Rand budget again as soon as you convert it. Does anybody know of any sanctuaries or conservation projects in South-Africa I can help with for about a month without needing to spend an arm and a leg. Im a hands on person so don't really mind what they need help with. Thanks more

Resolved Question: SWEDEN...SWEDEN..SWEDEN!?

Hej, I am a young Political Science and Journalism student from South Africa. I will be coming to Sweden in 2 months and would love whatever information possible. I know information an be easily attained from the web, but I would like to hear from locals. I will be taking a year break to Au Pair with a Swedish family in a small town (Sandviken) approx.2hrs away from Stockholm. My questions are... What are Swedish people like on the whole?? Are they friendly people? What are some of the things that I should do to get to know locals? I have been to Sweden before, but only on holiday. Also, as an Au Pair I will earn 5800kr pocket money per month. I know this is not even a handful, but keep in mind that my flight is paid for by the family and living expenses (room and board) and Swedish lessons etc. SO I don't need much. I am not very "indulgent". I intend to save as much as I can. Since I won't be paying rent etc. What is a reasonable amount of money to use on cellphone and skype (I will download)??? Are they any cheap cell networks that offer affordable international calling and text messaging? I have already travelled around Europe, I lived in Denmark for 15 months...so I am not going to travel much this time. Is 3000kr a reasonable amount to save? What is the cost of living like?? figures will be appreciated. Also, I will be attending Swedish lesson , I intend on doing well. Will Swedish people welcome my attempts at speaking the language or will they be impatient? MANY THANKS FOR YOUR HELP! I look forward to hearing from you. more

Resolved Question: Indian tourist visa in Colombo, Sri Lanka (cheaper)?

Indian tourist visa in Colombo, Sri Lanka (cheaper)? I know India needs visas for both Norwegian and Canadian nationals, and I've heard they hand out wonderfully long six-month visas. Of course, purchasing a visa in either Canada or Norway would prove expensive, maybe more than 50 euro. My question is, since I am going to Sri lanka first (and spending 10 or so days), should I apply for an Indian visa in Colombo the first day, have a look around, wait for the visa to clear, and stamped in the passport, then catch a cheap flight to Kerala, South India, just over the water? How much would an Indian visa (tourist status) cost in Colombo? Are there are special requirements needed, for example I heard applying for an Indian visa in Sub-saharan Africa requires an additional Yellow Fever vaccanination certificate, regardless of your nationality. Does India require similar paperwork from Westerners arriving via Sri Lanka as well? Thanks more

Resolved Question: Cheapest way to get to Rio?

I'm looking to visit a friend who's away for the best part of 2 years (i miss her lots!!) and was hoping to meet her in Rio for the Carnival in February. I'll be flying from the UK (Manchester but I don't mind getting a train to London if it's cheaper) and was originally looking for flights and accommodation separately as this is usually the cheapest way to do these things! However, I can't find flight cheaper than £630 which is way too expensive (I was hoping that it'd be closer to £400 since you can get to South Africa easily for that price and the distance is not dissimilar). Does anyone have any tips on how I can get a cheaper price!? Either with a tour operator or flying via the states etc (eg, I can get to New York for about £250 return).
