Flight Centre Australia Questions asked

Resolved Question: Where should we go on holiday in april 2010?

We can have up to 3 weeks off work but only in april and want to do a trip of a life time. We aren't into the normal places like Spain, Mexico etc, we like off the beaten track type of holidays. We don't mind cruises or multi centre. Our interests are wildlife & photography. Some of the places we have been already are: Kenya South Africa Brazil Borneo & Kuala Lumpur Canada & Alaska We don't mind travelling as long as the flights aren't really early. We want the holiday to be as relaxed as possible but we want lots to do. We were thinking about Peru, Amazon & Galapagos but i think that is turning out abit too expensive and the flights are a bit annoying as there is stop offs. We don't want to do Australia. don't worry about budget. Any suggestions please more

Resolved Question: changing flight tickets toearlier date!? HELP PLZ.?

I have a flight for June 2010 From Australia back to Canada.I bought the ticket online from RedTag vacations, and flying through United Airlines. Round trip from Canada to Ausi cost me $2040…I need to change June flight to sometime in January, due to family emergency. How much will I be charged? I was told I’m going to be charged the fee, AND the difference in ticket price…Well a ticket from here is aprox. $4500 so (One way trip) HOW IS THAT AFFORDABLE!? :( … Are there ANY tips as to how I can do this the affordable way or cheap?! For example, Can I exchange the ticket with ANOTHER ticket provider, such as Flight Centre or RedTag again? I am SOO frustrated and stressed! Any help would be appreciated. Thank. more

Voting Question: Starting to think I'll never get a job as a flight attendant?

I have been applying for Flight Attendant jobs (in Australia) left, right and centre for over 6 months, I've had one group interview but nothing else. Admittedly, there hasn't been much available (due to the global financial crisis I assume) ... but it's starting to get me down as there are SO MANY girls and guys applying for these positions, with only very few available. I've tried everything from Qantas, Jetstar & Virgin, to several smaller airlines such as SkyTrans and Rex. Has anyone got any insider info or tips for what I should do? I have my RSA, First Aid, 6 years customer service experience, well presented etc ... there's nothing more I can possibly do 'experience & training' wise ... so can anyone give me any encouragement? I don't want to give up but I'm worried I'll never make it. more

Resolved Question: Where do I go from here?

I started out at R&S looking for people who also had an interest in civil discussion of religion. Sadly, I soon came to realise that the majority of theists that I came across online were not only unable to converse civilly, but seemed to have only one goal in mind. They seemed to glory in the idea that they would be saved while so many others would spend eternity in agony. I don't know whether this is simply a result of them being the victim of bullying when young, or whether it is indicative of some sort of deep seated anti-social psychosis, but the result is the same. I gradually began asking less genuine questions and simply asked questions that would elicit amusing responses from the fundies, but now even the humour has gone. I'm simply left with a dismay at how many people can gain so much enjoyment at the thought of another's suffering. So the question is, how do others continue to get enjoyment from R&S? Just to give an idea of why I am dismayed at the level of hatred here, this is part of the latest in a long list of messages I've received from people here. "I've been to Australia. It's a DUMP compared to California. Shouldn't have waisted so many hours on that flight, to visit a country that is so anti-American and hostile to American soldiers. its people like you that make me wish we would nuke europe and australia. its people like you that make innocent americans vote for people like bush. I wish he was still in power. I've been recruited to save the world for those who seek to destroy Christ. There is a massive global movement right now, centered in europe, to destroy religion. I consider radical atheists in europe to be comparable to the taliban, and I want them eliminated. It's about power. The socialists of Europe want to destroy USA's power. I won't tolerate it. We have the most nuclear weapons. That's ALL we need. The innocent American children that have been killed because of people like you. It's just so wrong. I hope you die." It went on for quite a while telling me how evil I am and how the U.S should simply nuke everyone else. She was quite serious, and wanted the rest of the world to be scared of American power.Joe, I was going to respond to your answer point by point, but realised it was a waste of time. You didn't read what I wrote, you read what you wanted me to have written. You changed the meaning of my question to justify your vitriolic response. You are yet another person I have found on R&S that evokes nothing but contempt from me. The only real complaint you had about my question was that I actually use correct grammar and spelling. I'll actually take that as a compliment, a sophomore level is more than I ever achieved. I didn't finish high school. You seem to think that I should be hiding behind poor grammar and spelling simply to fit in with the rest of your hatemongers. I think I'll stay with the minority. more

Resolved Question: 60 days a mistake or...........................?

Read this article from 7starsdubai.weblog!! This happened to me too on 27 Febr. and had to pay 2000 uad fines. I got a STAMPED 60 days visit visa on 31 Dec.2008 in my passport. As said in the article I wrote an email to amer@dnrd.ae to ask for compassion and a refund. DUBAI // Some visitors to the UAE are facing heavy fines upon leaving the country because of erroneous official stamps in their passports. Under the rule changes introduced last July, all visit visas are now valid for 30 days instead of 60. Yet number visitors since then have been given stamps in their passports showing 60-day validity. “I came in on Dec 28 and was given a visa at the airport that says ‘60 days from date of entry’,” said Anne, a British citizen. “I left 43 days later but was stopped at passport control and told that there were no more 60-day visas. The man said they were all 30 days, and I had to pay an Dh800 (US$218) fine. I wasn’t the only one; the people in front of me were having to pay Dh3,000. It was lucky that I had just enough cash on me or I would have missed my flight.”She said she was offered no explanation about when or why the rules had changed.“I asked how I was supposed to know that what was written in my passport was incorrect and was told that I should have read the newspapers,” she said. “It’s very unclear and seems harsh.” Even the British Embassy admits to some confusion. A notice on the website of the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office says: “The length of visit visas given to visitors on arrival changed with effect January 1 2009. The Ministry of Immigration has told us verbally, but not confirmed in writing, that British nationals will get a 30-day visa on arrival.” Nationals of 33 countries, including most of Europe, the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, get their initial 30-day visa free, and are also given a 10-day grace period during which they can pay to extend the visa by another 30 days. Citizens of other countries have to pay on arrival and cannot extend their stays. Jerome, who holds Italian and Swiss passports, was fined at the border when driving to Oman for a day trip. “The immigration officer said I had overstayed, despite the fact that my visa said 60 days and I was well within that time,” he said. “In order to leave I had to pay Dh1,300. The official just said the rules had changed and that what it said in my passport did not count.” Jerome said he went to different offices of the Department of Naturalisation and Residency – Dubai (DNRD) trying to get a refund. “But nobody seemed to know what was going on,” he said. “Eventually I was told to submit a complaint online. I just don’t understand why I was fined. I’m not in this country to break the law; if I had known my visa was only valid for 30 days, I would have left within that time.” The DNRD said 60-day visa stamps were no longer being used. “Since July 2008, the system has seen a large-scale change, and some errors were bound to happen,” said Major Gen Mohammed al Marri, the director general of the DNRD. “If it is a human error by one of our employees, we will do our best to rectify it on a case-by-case basis, and if it is a lack of understanding of the regulations, our call-centre staff would be happy to offer the correct information.” Gen al Marri urged people with complaints to get in touch with the DNRD either by telephone (800 5111) or by e-mail (amer@dnrd.ae). Complaints can also be made on the internet at www.amer.ae. Information on the various types of visas is at www.dnrd.ae. more

Resolved Question: Can you believe that US Government Defense system is spending 1000s of dollars to "Track Santa"? Seriously??!?

Military center tracking Santa's sleigh ride COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Who says Santa Claus doesn't exist? The military personnel charged with being the eyes in the sky are certainly acting like he does — and they've been joined on the Internet by millions of believers. Even doubters have reason to pause when they hear the North American Aerospace Defense Command — or NORAD, which monitors air and space threats against the U.S. and Canada — is in charge of the annual Christmas mission to keep children informed of Santa's worldwide journey to their homes. "They challenge it, but only to a point," said Senior Master Sgt. Sharon Ryder-Platts, 49, who for five years has been a Santa tracker, taking calls from those wanting to know the location of jolly old St. Nick. According to NORAD, Santa began his latest flight early Wednesday at the International Date Line in the Pacific Ocean. Historically, Santa visits the South Pacific first, then New Zealand and Australia. NORAD points out that only Santa knows his route. Last year, NORAD's Santa tracking center answered 94,000 calls and responded to 10,000 e-mails. About 10.6 million visitors went to the Web site, which can be viewed in English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Japanese and Chinese. (I get it, Santa is the spirit of Christmas, and it's great for the Children, But in this economy to pay people to answer the phones, work the computer systems and "track santa" it's just a big waste of money in this economy.I VOTE EVERY single Election since I was 18. I voted in every election in 2004 and every election in 2008. I love the Spirit of Christmas! I really really do. But with everyone needing "Bail outs' why spend alot of money for something that happens once a year. Me and my family even fight for this Country! With a Brother overseas right now, missing his third Christmas, Don't you dare tell me about the spirit of Christmas! It's because of what we Do, Makes you guys have another Christmas safe.Of course there not going to tell you how much they spend. "They want you to have the Spirit Of Christmas! God Bless our Troops and God Bless the Men and Women who make this Country Safe!Of course there not going to tell you how much they spend. "They want you to have the Spirit Of Christmas! Resolved Question: Poll : How dumb can people get... ? ?

Found this article on the net _________________________ Melbourne, Nov 10 (ANI): Travel agents are known for arranging proper traveling for people, but the complaints attended by them will make us witness the funny or may be the sad side of their work. Travel specialists from around the world have now compiled a list of the most bizarre complaints by travelers, who can go to any extent to get compensation. One travel agent received a complaint from a tourist at a top African game lodge overlooking a waterhole, who spotted a visibly aroused elephant and complained that the sight of this rampant beast ruined his honeymoon by making him feel "inadequate". Another wacky complaint had a group of UFO-believers, who were holding a conference at a Novotel hotel, express their fears of being infiltrated by aliens because the locks on the meeting room doors had not been changed. There was also a complaint filed by a guest at a Novotel in Australia who complained his soup was too thick and strong. He was inadvertently slurping the gravy at the time. Another Aussie hotel was told by a football star that his hotel room overlooking Sydney's Manly beach was unsuitable because the sound of the sea kept him awake. "By and large, Australians are pretty relaxed about travel and don't make many strange complaints or demands," News.com.au quoted Flight Centre spokesman Haydn Long, as saying. "They're mostly good travellers who understand that things may be done differently to what they'd expect in Australia," he added. But that did not stop one Aussie traveller from cribbing that his hotel room "was decorated in a feminine manner". Other complaints included a panic-stricken dumb woman who called reception and angrily protested that she was locked in her room. Staff later discovered that the woman, who had never stayed in a hotel before, had read the "do not disturb" sign on the inside doorknob and assumed she should not open it. According to one British travel company's survey, some travellers complained of not enjoying going away on holiday because foreigners "didn't want to speak English". ____________________________________ Star if you think its funny more

Voting Question: Does anyone know the name of a movie about 9/11?

I remember this movie airing in australia several years ago and most probably over the world too. To describe it to you the main setting of the movie was inside the WTC showing some amazing camerawork and scenes of the plane impacting the building aswell as people trapped on high floors. The main plot of the movie was several firefighters and office workers trying to escape the tower and rescueing others along the way. Ive watched several 9/11 movies but unable to find the one im looking for. Ive seen the following 9/11 movies which arent what i remember: Farenheit 9/11 9/11 World Trade Center Flight 93 And it is none of those, i read somewhere about a movie named Stairwell: Trapped in the WTC. That sounds like it could be the one, but if anyone knows which movie im talking about and could give me the name so i could buy it from somewhere because it was a very good movie! Thanks :)world trade center is mostly about guys trapped under debris, this movie was mainly set in the towers and involved ongoing rescues and people/firemen trying to escape the tower, anyone know of a list with all possible 9/11 films? more

Hi. I am trying to find out for how to get to Sweden from Australia. I have been on Stockholm's Alanda Airport Website but I can't find a page with all the airlines. I tried stuff like webjet and flight centre but half those airlines dont go to Sweden when I get on the site. Is there another way for finding airlines going to Arlanda Airport in Stockholm Sweden?? Thanks. PS Before you answer a travel agent, I like doing reserch before I enquire there Thanks more

Resolved Question: How to become a travel consultant?

I am currently a receptionist/service co-ordinator for a forklift company. I would like to enrol in a course (outside of work hours) to become a travel consultant to work somewhere like flight centre. Can anyone provide me with information on how i can best go about this? I currently live in Townsville Australia, but am moving to Sydney. Also... any ideas on how much this occupation pays? Thanks. more
