Flight Manual Questions asked

Voting Question: How to prevent a sweaty back?

Everyday I take the subway to college. Now unlike most cities, the subway in my city is only underground, and is not air conditioned (or heated). But, due to the dated technology on the lines I take (the trains are from the 60s), it uses a manual braking system that generates a lot of heat. The system is also poorly ventilated. Adding to this, on the way, I have to get off at a certain station, switch lines, walk to the other end of the very long platform and await the next train. I take that train another 4-5 stops and get off, walk through some underground tunnels and take a few flights of escalators/stairs to class. Well if that wasn't enough, it is also still relatively cool outside here in Canada. So I have to wear a coat. By the time I get to class, the back of my clothes are usually drenched with sweat (even though I wear an undershirt). Not only is this uncomfortable, but it is also a little embarrassing. Is there anything I can do to prevent myself from sweating this much? (some fancy drug or surgery isn't an option.)I do wear antiperspirant under my arms. more

Voting Question: Trying to decide between USAF Aircrew jobs...?

Hi, I'm thinking of joining the Air Force but I want to join on the aircrew. I love flying and if I join and subsequently leave, I'd get flight training and become a pilot (heck, maybe even jump back into the AF as a pilot!). However, I'm not sure what aircrew job I want to do most. On one hand I'm thinking of loadmaster because I hear the pay is better. I'm also a big guy so doing manual labor is something I'm skilled at. I'm also good at math and science so I could use my head in a bad situation. On the other I hear that boom operators have the more exciting job. Getting to gas up other planes at 35,000 feet and whatnot. The downfall to this one that I see is that I hear that you sit by yourself in a chair the entire flight. I'd rather be walking around looking out the windows and such. For instance, in a video I saw 2 loadmasters sitting on the edge of the cargo hatch with their feet dangling out in flight. That was so cool! So do boom operators really sit in a chair and stare out of a window for hours or do they get to move around and do other things while in flight? And overall, which one is more interesting? more

Resolved Question: Do you think 9/11 could possibly be an inside job?

Considering these 9 FACTS! 1. The terrorist's names do not appear on any passenger manifests. This has never happened before 9/11 2. The terrorist's bodies were never found. 3. 5 of the 19 terrorists were found alive in the middle east and some have even been interviewed by the BBC. (or how about building 7?) 4. and yet the F.B.I. sticks by there list. That has been proven wrong. 5. An F.B.I. agent by the name of Flagg has come out to say that they found the list of the 19 hijackers along with a terrorist manual in a piece of luggage in a Portland airport just hours after the 9/11 attacks. hmmm interesting and none of the planes left from a Portland airport. 6. The hijackers could not have flown the planes according to Neelus Agadavan who is a pilot and nautical engineer has studied there training and background. They could not have even hoped to turn that plane. They couldn't even get Cessna off the ground. 7. The phone calls could not have been made at the speeds and altitudes they were flying. We all fly and we all know your cellphone does not get reception in mid flight. 8. How could a cockpit recording record the passengers on flight 93 capture the plan to use the cart to smash the cockpit door down, WHEN IT ONLY RECORDS WHATS GOING ON IN THE COCKPIT. 9. The hijackers on flight 93 would not have said "Allah Akbar" meaning "Allah is the great." but they would have rather said "There is one god Allah and Muhammad is his prophet." Study Islam... that is what they are supposed to say.just a couple thoughts.9 years and 2 wars later.http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/1559151.stmI have seen loose change... Resolved Question: Problem with my clutch or transmission... need serious help.?

Ok I have a 2005 Hyundai Tiburon SE with the 6 spped manual transmission. Now then, I was driving about 210 miles from Hopkinsville, KY to Lexington, KY. About half way I pulled into Wal Mart to go use the restroom. When I slowed down and went into the lower gears I noticed that there was an odd sound. I wish I could describe it but it was very odd. It almost sounded like if u had your brakes slight pushed down and if they were old they'd make that kinda grinding sound. That's kind of close to what it sounded like. When I was done there and started driving again, I noticed that the car was having a hard time going after putting it in gear. Almost as if you tried going and you were letting off the clutch but didn't apply enough gas. It would do that for the first 4 gears, then when I got up to speed back on the interstate, the noise would go away. I finally got to Lexington and the noise was a lot worse. Louder, sounded more rough, and my car had even a harder time trying to get up and go, so I pulled into a parking lot. I was making the turn and I started to let off the clutch and about half way the clutch all by itself just slammed into the. My car knocked really hard and the clutch was stuck to the floor. Eventually I was able to force the clutch off the floor and fully released. I tried to push the clutch down but now it won't move at all. So now I'm stuck in Lexington with a broken car. It's looking really pricey to just get it looked at so I'm in dire need of some help. And to make things worse, I have to be back in Hopkinsville on Monday (15Jan2010) because I'm in the Army and I have to catch a flight the next day to return to Afghanistan. So things are kinda urgent. Much help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!Oh and also before my clutch took a dump, when I pushed the clutch down there was a little more resistance and it wasn't as smooth. It was very noticeable. When it take a dump there was an odd odor. Didn't smell like anything was burning just an odd smell. And the noise I described earlier completely stopped. more

Resolved Question: Can a real-world pilot answer this?

I'm playing Flight Simulator X, and wanting to make it as realistic as possible.....I've flown a Boeing 747-400, from Austin Bergstrom Intl (KAUS) to Sacramento Intl (KSMF). Here's the details...... Take-off (manual flying): Ascent rate @ 2,500 ft/min, 350 knots/true airspeed, until I reach 33,000 ft. Altimeter set at 29.92. Cruising (using auto-pilot): Level off @ 33,000 ft (Altimeter set @ 29.92), 500 knots/true airspeed (0.85 Mach which is cruising speed for the 747), Yaw Damper activated, HDG set according to the Flight Plan loaded onto the GPS. Landing (manual flying): Descent rate @ 2,500 ft/min, flaps 5 degrees/gear still up, maintaining 300 knots until reaching 2,500 ft (Altimeter set @ 29.92).....when airport is in sight, slow to 230 knots, flaps fully down/gear down......when about to touch-down, throttle down completely (slow to 170-160 knots), smooth touch-down, then reverse thrust, speed brake on FULL, hardly use the brakes. My question is.......based on the details of my flight, is any of that close to how you'd fly in real-life? When you fly on auto-pilot, do you have to constantly make course (heading) corrections by 1 or 2 degrees, or do you fly in a straight line from point A to Point B? If you do make corrections, do you have to turn-on the seatbelt sign or can you make certain manuevers without having to turn-on the seatbelt sign? more

Resolved Question: What is the probability that the flight is delayed given this info?

There is a 4% probability that the plane used for a commercial flight has technical problems, and this causes a delay in the flight. If there are no technical problems with the plane, then there is still a 33% probability that the flight is delayed due to all other reasons. What is the probability that the flight is delayed? The solutions manual says 0.3568 but I can't seem to get that answer. Could some one please explain how to do this problem? Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Would installation, test, set-to-work, acceptance, validation and verification, what you will, of?

software be simply a matter of reading the complete recording, if there is one and if you know the language of the recording ? [Q/Given that there are various theories of truth (in Philosophy), is there often a question mark over the "truthiness" of software ? Software is often produced in a sequence, the same as movies for example Rocky, Rocky II, Rocky III, Rocky IV etc. Is there often a question mark over the "truthiness" of the software ? (Because there are various theories of truth. Correspondence theory of truth, Coherence theory of truth, Pragmatic theory of truth, Redundancy theory of truth, Semantic theory of truth, Deflationary theories of truth.) It's highly desirable that the software in the series be increasingly reliable (and other -ilities as well). But this may be unlikely. The developers of release II may have a slightly, or very, different take on "truth" to the developers of release I, or of III, or of IV, etc. The releases are very likely to be a dog's breakfast of quality. They can only be seen as highly experimental releases. To obtain any vestige of consistent quality, at a minimum there'd be a need to "re-engineer" the experimental release II so that it contains the desired content of release I plus the added value that the experimental release II is shown to possess. Then there would be a need to re-engineer experimental release III so that it contains the desired content of the re-engineered release II plus the added value that the experimental release III is shown to possess. Of course this "should" have been done originally and it is probably spelt out in the original software developer manual that the software should be developed this way. But it's extremely unlikely that it actually has been developed this way, given that there are various theories of truth. This is undesirable given that the software may need to be accurate for for example automated flight and landing software. A/ by Jonny/ I suppose truth doesn't rely on whats right or wrong but rather what is, has been or will be. The interesting thing is that the truth only serves judgement. Knowing the truth of a system in which all variables are known is just a matter of reading the complete recording, if there is one and if you know the language of the recording. In systems where there is doubt about knowing all the variables truth is incomplete and only serves those whose theories don't need the whole truth. Resolved Question: If science doesn't confirm that God exists, then how do you explain this?

Athiests, what do you think of NASA's M.A.R.B. and P.D.R.S.M programs? The FACT is that Nasa Scientists have recently invested 10 million dollars to the study of Magic Assisted Rocket Boosters (M.A.R.B), and the development of Prayer Driven Re-entry Space Modules (P.D.R.S.M) to ensure the safety of astronauts coming back from space After all, the only time problems in space flight ever occurred was when less than 200,000 people of varying faiths were praying for astronauts safety. This effort is based on hundreds of failed experiments that tried to prove the efficacy of prayers despite using multiple faiths and double blind studies. However, all Christian scientists agreed that this was more probably an indication that they didn't have enough faith. Due to that clear indication that prayer actually works, not to mention its proof in the greatest technical manual ever - the bible - they are continuing to exploit the benefits of prayer. Resolved Question: What can be a solution for this problem apart from following prescribed emergency procedure in flight manual?

A 200 seat aircraft is flying with only 100 passengers on board. Due to some unforeseen circumstances the elevator trim is jammed, the pilot cannot move this any more. What is the reason? more

Resolved Question: what could the crew do in order to facilitate the landing?

During an intercontinental flight, just before descent with an intercontinental passenger airplane, a so called "auto-stabilisertrim inoperable" warning occurs. Changing Autopilots and relevant autostabiliser trim- control units gives no improvement, and manual-hydraulic as well as manual-electric stabilizer retrimming prove to be impossible; hence the stabilizer is jammed. At the initial approach with the necessary speed reduction, apart from the prescribed emergency procedure for that particular aircraft. more

Resolved Question: Did Collins software integration effort resemble Aeroflot Flight 593 ?

Aeroflot Flight 593, a "Russian Airlines"[1] Airbus A310-304 passenger airliner, registration F-OGQS, operating on behalf of Aeroflot, crashed into a hillside in Siberia on 23 March 1994. All 75 passengers and crew were killed. Voice and flight data recorders revealed that the pilot's 15-year-old son Eldar Kudrinsky, while seated at the controls, had unknowingly disabled the A310's autopilot's control of the ailerons, which put the aircraft into a steep bank, and then an uncontrolled dive. The pilots were not aware of the partial disconnection of the autopilot, which occurred with no audible alarm, and did not regain control of the aircraft. The jet was en route from Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO) to Hong Kong's former Hong Kong International Airport (Kai Tak Airport). Most of the passengers were businessmen from Hong Kong and Taiwan who were looking for economic opportunities in Russia. The relief pilot, Yaroslav Kudrinsky (Ярослав Кудринский), was taking his two children on their first international flight and they were brought to the cockpit while he was on duty. Aeroflot allowed families of pilots to travel at a discounted rate once per year. With the autopilot active, Kudrinsky, against regulations, offered to let them sit at the controls. First his daughter Yana took the pilot's left front seat. Kudrinsky adjusted the autopilot's heading to give her the impression that she was turning the plane, though she actually had no control of the aircraft. Next, his son Eldar Kudrinsky (Эльдар Кудринский) took the pilot's seat. Unlike his sister, Eldar applied enough force to the control column to contradict the autopilot for 30 seconds. What nobody knew was that by doing this, he completely disconnected the aileron's autopilot: the flight computer switched the plane's ailerons to manual control while maintaining control over the other flight systems. The plane did not audibly signal a warning that this had occurred, although an indicator light did come on. It apparently went unnoticed by the pilots, who had previously flown planes with an audible warning signal. The first to notice a problem was Eldar, who observed that the plane was banking right. Shortly after, the flight path indicator changed to show the new flight path of the aircraft as it turned. Since the turn was continuous, the resulting predicted flight path drawn on screen was a 180 degree turn. This indication is similar to the indications shown when in a holding pattern, where a 180 degree turn is intentional to remain in one place. This confused the pilots for nine seconds. Soon the plane banked past a 45-degree angle (steeper than it was designed for). This increased the g-force on the pilots and crew, making their bodies feel much heavier than usual, and making it impossible for the Captain to replace his son at the controls. After banking as much as 90 degrees, the remaining functions of the autopilot tried to correct the plane's altitude by putting the plane in an almost vertical ascent, nearly stalling the plane. The co-pilot and Eldar managed to get the plane into a nosedive, which reduced the G-force on the pilots and enabled the Captain to take the controls. Though he and his co-pilot did regain control, their altitude by then was too low to recover, and the plane crashed at high speed, killing all aboard. Families of western victims placed flowers on the crash site, while families of ethnic Chinese victims scattered pieces of paper with messages written on them around the crash site. more

True, it stayed up for the entire day, but Allah was busy that day, cut him a break. Also praise Allah for taking down the building which housed FBI files on Enron lawsuits. Praise Allah for confusing president Bush into going after Saddam Hussein who had nothing to do with 9/11 rather than going after Osama Bin Laden who is living happily in a cave somewhere. Praise Allah for allowing the air line to "forget" to place the terrorist luggage on board so that they could see all the incriminating evidence such as a Koran and flight manuals. Otherwise that evidence would have burned in the fire ball (the passport survived of course). Praise Allah for allowing Haliburton and Blackwater to benefit billions of dollars from the terrorist attacks, ensuring perpetual war between the Christians and Muslims. Praise Allah for allowing Osama Bin Laden to deliver messages from his "cave" without the FBI ever being able to track him down, yet being able to produce the videos whenever American faith in the war on terror starts to wane Praise Allah for the FBI releasing Israeli operatives who were arrested on terrorism charges, and had box cutters and explosives in their van. Congress approves plans to investigate Mr. Zelaya and possibly declare him unfit to govern. 6/28/09 – Mr. Zelaya is removed by the military and forced into exile. Congress speaker Roberto Micheletti is appointed acting president. 7/5/09 – Mr. Zelaya turns back from an attempt to return home after soldiers clashed with thousands of his backers massed at the airport. At least one man was killed. 7/6/09 – Honduras’ interim government closes its main airport to all flights. Police and soldiers blanket the streets of the capital. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announces that Costa Rican President Oscar Arias will mediate between current Honduran leader Roberto Micheletti and Zelaya. Now, what is interesting are President Obama’s comments on the situation: “Even as we meet here [in Moscow] today, America supports now the restoration of the democratically elected president of Honduras, even though he has strongly opposed American policies,” he said. “We do so not because we agree with him,” Obama said of Zelaya. “We do so because we respect the universal principle that people should choose their own leaders, whether they are leaders we agree with or not.” Talk about a non sequitur! Zelaya went against his country’s supreme court ruling that the planned June 28th referendum was illegal and ordered the military to defy the supreme court. The military stood with the supreme court. Zelaya is kicked out of his country for defying his own country’s laws . . . and Obama supports his return to office because “people should choose their own leaders?” HUH?????? Sounds to me like the people have chosen -they've chosen to kick out their leader!I believe if you read again, you will find they did go through the proper channels, not that Obama said anything like what you are suggesting he meant. You are injecting something into Obama's statement that just isn't there...It's sad that the first three answerers support what was obviously a situation similar to what occurred in Venezuela when Hugo Chavez declared himself dictator. more

Resolved Question: WE ALL KNOW WHO BLEW UP THE TWIN TOWers...?

Or do we? It's September 11 all over again - eight years on. The George W Bush administration is out. The "global war on terror" is still on, renamed "overseas contingency operations" by the Barack Obama administration. Obama's "new strategy" - a war escalation - is in play in AfPak. Osama bin Laden may be dead or not. "Al-Qaeda" remains a catch-all ghost entity. September 11 - the neo-cons' "new Pearl Harbor" - remains the darkest jigsaw puzzle of the young 21st century. It's useless to expect US corporate media and the ruling elites' political operatives to call for a true, in-depth investigation into the attacks on the US on September 11, 2001. Whitewash has been the norm. But even establishment highlight Dr Zbig "Grand Chessboard" Brzezinski, a former national security advisor, has admitted to the US Senate that the post-9/11 "war on terror" is a "mythical historical narrative". The following questions, some multi-part - and most totally ignored by the 9/11 Commission - are just the tip of the immense 9/11 iceberg. A hat tip goes to the indefatigable work of 911truth.org; whatreallyhappened.com; architects and engineers for 9/11 truth; the Italian documentary Zero: an investigation into 9/11; and Asia Times Online readers' e-mails. None of these questions has been convincingly answered - according to the official narrative. It's up to US civil society to keep up the pressure. Eight years after the fact, one fundamental conclusion is imperative. The official narrative edifice of 9/11 is simply not acceptable. Fifty questions 1) How come dead or not dead Osama bin Laden has not been formally indicted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as responsible for 9/11? Is it because the US government - as acknowledged by the FBI itself - has not produced a single conclusive piece of evidence? 2) How could all the alleged 19 razor-blade box cutter-equipped Muslim perpetrators have been identified in less than 72 hours - without even a crime scene investigation? 3) How come none of the 19's names appeared on the passenger lists released the same day by both United Airlines and American Airlines? 4) How come eight names on the "original" FBI list happened to be found alive and living in different countries? 5) Why would pious jihadi Mohammed Atta leave a how-to-fly video manual, a uniform and his last will inside his bag knowing he was on a suicide mission? 6) Why did Mohammed Atta study flight simulation at Opa Locka, a hub of no less than six US Navy training bases? 7) How could Mohammed Atta's passport have been magically found buried among the Word Trade Center (WTC)'s debris when not a single flight recorder was found? 8) Who is in the possession of the "disappeared" eight indestructible black boxes on those four flights? 9) Considering multiple international red alerts about a possible terrorist attack inside the US - including former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice's infamous August 6, 2001, memo - how come four hijacked planes deviating from their computerized flight paths and disappearing from radar are allowed to fly around US airspace for more than an hour and a half - not to mention disabling all the elaborate Pentagon's defense systems in the process? 10) Why the secretary of the US Air Force James Roche did not try to intercept both planes hitting the WTC (only seven minutes away from McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey) as well as the Pentagon (only 10 minutes away from McGuire)? Roche had no less than 75 minutes to respond to the plane hitting the Pentagon. 11) Why did George W Bush continue to recite "My Pet Goat" in his Florida school and was not instantly absconded by the secret service? 12) How could Bush have seen the first plane crashing on WTC live - as he admitted? Did he have previous knowledge - or is he psychic? 13) Bush said that he and Andrew Card initially thought the first hit on the WTC was an accident with a small plane. How is that possible when the FAA as well as NORAD already knew this was about a hijacked plane? 14) What are the odds of transponders in four different planes be turned off almost simultaneously, in the same geographical area, very close to the nation's seat of power in Washington, and no one scrambles to contact the Pentagon or the media? 15) Could defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld explain why initial media reports said that there were no fighter jets available at Andrews Air Force Base and then change the reports that there were, but not on high alert? 16) Why was the DC Air National Guard in Washington AWOL on 9/11? 17) Why did combat jet fighters of the 305th Air Wing, McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey not intercept the second hijacked plane hitting the WTC, when they could have done it within seven minutes? 18) Why did none of the combat jet fighters of the 459th Aircraft Squadron at Andrews Air Force Base intercept the plane that hit the Pentagon, only 16 kilometers away? Resolved Question: my son wants to live with his father?

My life is really turning up side down - My son want's to live with his father - who has no visitation rights, has a bad rap sheet and is over 14k behind in child support. This summer, I have been more than fair with letting him stay with his dad and his fathers live in girlfriend the entire summer - his father is an over the road truck driver and has actaully been staying in a local hotel (where my son has been staying with him this past 6 weeks) even though he owns his own home 4 hours away - anyhow, my son has come home 2 days ago crying that he ALREADY misses his dad and that he doesn't want to live with me, my boyfriend (who has raised him since he was 3) and his little brother who is 4 - this is totally crazy and my ex is brainwashing my son to not want to be with me where I have raised him since birth and never left his side. He calls my son every hour and asks him questions about what is happening at my house as I can hear him whispering on the phone as he hides un the bathroom or his bedroom or takes the call outside - and when his dad calls, he stops what he is doing - even if we are in the middle of eating dinner just to take his 10th phone call of the day ---- I have tried to be civil - going to lunch with my son and his father to show my son that we get along, but its just not working. My ex even has a record of putting a gun to my head when we were together 9 years ago . Now my ex has conned my son into not playing baseball, football or the young marines after I already paid for everything - he has totally quit the football team and now says that I forced him to paly - he held center position the past 2 years - His father is very coniveing - not an honest person and to top it all off he has a registered sex offender registered at his home address who is his girlfriends brother (even though he is in prison) but was living in their home at the time of the offense. what am I doing wrong? I make him go to school and ask him to do very little chores, have been in the pta for the past 5 years and his room mother since 2nd grade - I even coached his baseball team - just last summer his father called the police on me because w I wouldn't get on the phone with him, because were planting a garden and doing yard work - he told the police that I was making our son do manual labor - HA HA HA - yet this summer his father had him laying bricks at his 6 acre home and painting semi truck trailers - I feel really bad when I see my son cry for his dad - but his dad is not a very nice person and feels that he needs my son to live with him in order to say He won!! My ex tries to make passes at me and I think feels rejected when I say no (because I would never go back with him) and is jealous of my life, and now my son is saying that he doesnt like his stepdad because he yells at him and broke his door when in fact he is the one who slammed it on his stepdad and locked it when his stepdad was chasing him to his room because he was fighting with his little brother and almost pushed him down a flight of stairs (sibling fighting is normal - however my youngest was only 3 at that time and my 11 year old weighs 160 lbs - my son seems to tell his dad everything and cries to him about anything under the moon - maybe its to get attention I dont know - the man would never win in court, but how do I tell my son this without making me out to be the bad person - then my ex also does not have a realtionship with his mother - he never did - he is very mean to her and he and his girlfriend talk bad about her all the time even in front of our son - I just dont want him to teach my son not to love me as he doesn't love his own mother -as I think he may even be jealous of our relationship. This is crazy and I just dont know what to do - I have a great attorney, but I think I'll hold on to my money and let him file in the courts first as I really don't belive he ever will - but if he really loves his son, then he should just back off and stop being the disney dad and tell our son he is better off with his Mom - I think I need intervention as- I have a hard time telling my son and his father no - every time they ask for something they put me on a guilt trip until I give in or he will call my work 10 times a day or my cell phone - now that he is in town, he has even showed up at my house unannounced - totally uncool - as he truely isn't my friend and he is intruding - he has even admitted that he is bored in town without our son - too bad I think - my son is not his playmate - my son has told me about their outtings during the day, which include throwing a pop at a couple at the movie theater because they were kissing - what kind of adult assults someone in public in front of thier at that time 10 year old son - UGG - where to go where to turn??? more

Resolved Question: Why is there a need for high security at simulators at airports?

I am planning on going to a simulator at an airport, however I have to send a lot of documents off for security reasons. My question is, why is there such high security for these simulators when it's very easy to download manuals and POHs off the internet and even buy payware like PMDG and Wilco Pub, which provide very realistic models for Microsoft Flight Simulator and have been helped out by actual real life and certified pilots! more

Resolved Question: Dobsonian, Newtonian, or Catadioptric?

You know, I see a lot of questions regarding "What kind of telescope should I buy?" and I see a lot of answers come up "Buy a Dobsonian!" I really, really disagree with that and these are the reasons: No goto features are present. Finding the object you are looking for is entirely manual with no help from the scope. Most people that are just starting out want to see wonderful and interesting things in the night sky. It is that experience that excites them into wanting to see more and learn more about amateur astronomy. They don't want to start out working hard to find something and experiencing the frustration of being unable to locate what they are searching for. That's the quickest "interest-killer" I can imagine for beginners. I have seen people with 20+ years of experience get frustrated trying to star hop, sometimes spending 15-30 minutes trying to locate something. How do you think a beginner would fare trying to star hop? Also since the scope is unable to track objects the person will be constantly re-adjusting and moving the scope in order to keep objects in view for any length of time instead of enjoying them. If they walk away and come back, the object they were viewing will probably have drifted out of view. Then there is the portability factor. Can you imagine trying to lug a dobsonian scope up and down three or four flights of stairs? That kind of thing also kills interest. So, while they are getting the most apeture for the least amount of money what good is it if their interest has died out from frustration? My opinion, Dobsonians are NOT for beginners. So what are your thoughts on all this? There is no single "right" or "wrong" answer, Nightmare. If Dobs work for you as a beginner, then it is the right scope! :)Ahhh , seems like the $$$ factor vs. the convenience of features factor. I waited 2 years until I could afford what I wanted; seemed like forever. I used binoculars during the wait. more

Resolved Question: Making "flight connection" manually?

Ok, I'm trying to book multi city itinerary of 3 flights. There's YVR-LHR, and LHR-MOW as first two flights. Initially all sites offer me YVR(Vancouver)-LHR with one-hour connection thru Toronto, and nonstop LHR-MOW on other date. When I choose to fly 2hr earlier out of Vancouver I get 3hr connection in Toronto to the same Toronto-London flight but for whatever reason LHR-MOW nonstop disappears! I can only choose from some useless one-stops thru Warsaw. That is the same on all sites (Kayak, Farecast, etc). Now... When I make 4-flight itinerary, specifying Vancouver-Toronto manually and then Toronto-London manually, I get the itinerary I want (3hr layover in Toronto + nonstop London-Moscow) for correct price. Is there any repercussions for making this manual "connection"? I am not checking in anything.Tim: so if I'm not checking bags, no major problems? more
