Open Question: Can you give me any great crate training tips?

I have had my Argentine Dogo puppy now for two days and she is not doing very well with crate training. I am wondering if this is because her first long experience in a crate was on a plane since I had her sent to me from another state. I have been placing treats in her crate, letting her go in and out to get them and she will do that without a problem. She will even go in there and fall alseep, but with the door open. I tried today and yesterday to just close the door for a moment and she didnt like it at all. Should I just keep up with what I am doing and she will get it? Do you think that the flight has given her a bad vibe about the whole crate experience? I will have to leave her at home for an hour or so on Wednesday so obviously I dont want her to just cry the whole time. Any tips on how I can have her more comfortable? She has toys and a treat filled Kong when I close the door but she just cries and wants to get out. She is 2 months old, how long should I leave her cry in there for? Thanks...the crate is in the loungeroom...where we spend most of our time and i would never use it as punishment as i want it to be her safe spot when needed. she is doing great with most everything else...no accidents at night (I have her sleeping on a sheet in my room with her leash on to prevent her from wandering). she is getting better with basic commands...SIT and LEAVE IT...crate training is not working as well... more

Open Question: Can I fly IFR on the DA-20?

My flight school recently added a Diamond DA-20 to its fleet. I have only flown it once as an intro flight about two years ago, and logged .8 hours. I was reading about the aircraft on wikipedia, it it says "Although the DA20 is available with instrumentation and avionics suitable for flight under instrument flight rules (IFR), its plastic airframe lacks lightning protection and thus does not qualify for IFR certification." Does that mean that I can't fly IFR on the DA-20? What about the DA-40, are they the same? (yes... I know the Da-40 is a 4 seater, I'm asking about flying IFR). ---------- 2nd question: (to save some points) My flight school will be charging $120 hobbs hours, or $110 for block rate. Is this a reasonable price? The year model of the plane is 2005. In contrast, that same flight school charges $74 block hour, ($84 regular) for renting out a Cessna 152 (model 1974), and $99 block ($109 normal) for a Cessna 172N (1997). Any comments? This is a question on my physics homework An airplane has an effective wing surface area of 15 m2 that is generating the lift force. In level flight the air speed over the top of the wings is 56.7 m/s, while the air speed beneath the wings is 51.0 m/s. What is the mass of the plane? I know what Bernoulli's principle is and I used it to find the difference in pressure but I don't know how to solve the problem beyond that. Help would be much appreciated more

Ok so i'm going on an 8 hour flight and i get realllyyy bored and i hate the smell of planes :( I have an ipod touch 32gb 2nd gen but im not sure on what to put on it; i have a lot of DVD's and i have about 50 of them on ipod file though, sometimes i feel sick looking down at my ipod screen :( I easily get bored with JUST listening to music. I would play games but they drain the battery wayyyyy to quickly. I was thinking about audiobooks but i'm 14 and dont want to spend a tenner on an audiobook on the itunes store and my dad probably wont let me use his card on any other website. I was looking at audiobooks on the public domain but most of them are not of my liking (e.g. dont really want to listen to Shakespeare,Sherlock Holmes etc.). I will list a few books i like: The Harry Potters, The Cherub series, Eragon series and the Lord of the rings (+the hobbit). I like some podcasts (i am into tech ones and funny ones). So my questions are what can i put on my ipod to entertain me bearing in mind what i have just said. Open Question: Is there any way to avoid a fee by changing your airline ticket?

We were origionally flying from Richmond To Chicago To Milwaukee, with the return flight coming back the same way. But our plans have changed and now we just want to fly Richmond to Chicago and back. But the airlines are trying to charge us $500 to not continue to Milwaukee. Also our return trip gets voided if we don't get on the plane to Milwaukee. Any suggestions on how to avoid the $500 fee? We are already flying this route, so nothing has to be changed, they are just charging us more to fly less. Eek. more

Open Question: Planes NO SHOW on VIsta FSX?

I have a very good HP desktop computer is vista operating system. I installed Flight Simulator X just as I had on my XP computer. Downloaded the same aircraft as I had before, and they don't show up, I've tryed everything, change the aircraft.cfg file and the .air file but nothing works. I ran a test, I downloaded the same plane to each computer, both are installed correctly exactly the same way. Started up FSX on both computers, XP and Vista, and the plane shows up on XP but not on vista. What do I have to do please tell me if you have any information. I thought this new computer would have been a good investment but now, for what I do, it's pointless. Thank you. If not, does anyone know if this problem has been fixed on Windows 7, or did Vista just screw us all as usual? Thanks again! more

Hello. I recently obtained my Private Pilot's License and I haven't done much flying before for "pleasure". I'm still in training (adding ratings/certificates), but this situation has never arrived that I have had to arrange to park a plane at another airport and FBO. So if I were to take a cross country flight somewhere how do I know if there is free parking. I know the procedure for talking to an FBO (Unicom) and whether or not there is fuel but what about parking? How do you know if it's free and how do you arrange to have parking if it isn't free? Do you just call the FBO ahead of time? Also, if going to a controlled airport, do you simply request "taxi to parking" or something along the lines of "taxi to FBO parking"? Also, what about bigger airports Class C and B airspace. Any parking for GA aircraft? Any information about international flying would be appreciated too. Is it pretty much the same procedures as here in the U.S. (such as IFR communications, general communications, clearances, etc). How would you obtain approach plates for airports that aren't in the United States. Anyone with experience (preferrably pilots or anyone of knowledge) on any of these questions are highly valued. If you can offer information about similar subjects that I didn't ask, feel free to do so. 15 year old neice is visiting father out of state for scheduled visitation. She comes from Texas, and is visiting Illinois, she flys, she refused to get on the plane to return home. She cried, and her father strongly encouraged her to get on the plane, and pulled her towards the security gates, once there she continued to state she was not going back, and wanted to stay, and continued to refuse to get on the plane, security said they couldn't let her thru if she didn't not want to board, the airlines refused to let her on, unles she was willing, the plane was delayed 20 minutes while her father encouraged her to get on the plane and they would work this out later, she could not miss her flight. She still refused, another flight has been scheduled for her to return ASAP, but she is stating she will not get on that plane either, the mother has stated if she doesn't get on the plane and return home, she will drive and get her. What will happen if she refuses to get in the car with her, throws a fit whatever, and will not get in the car. The parents have joint custody, and the child lives with the mother. Two of my best friends are getting married in Arizona in October. I've only gone on one plane trip from DC to Alaska and back, and that was with someone else, but on this flight I'll be by myself until my friends can come to the airport in AZ and pick me up. im 17 and ill be flying next month by myself. I dont know what the airport looks like inside, all I know is that its really big and really confusing. what do I do when I first get there? I know the "flight number", so do I look for that on a sign? is it easy to find seats on a plane? when you stop and switch planes, will they tell you where to go? about how much time when you switch planes do you have until they take off again? If you have a big luggage, do they take it for you and store it under the plane? after the flight, where do you go to get the luggage? can you bring a purse with you onto the plane? Or some juice?” “Ummm, do you, by chance, carry KAKKY Jumpin’ Junebug Cherry juice?” She looked at me in awe. “Uh, no, I don’t think so. Would you like something else?” I folded my arms and huffed a little. “I would really like some KAKKY. If you don’t have Jumpin’ Junebug Cherry do you have Pool Party Watermelon, or Summer Love Strawberry, or Tangy Tropical Punch?? Can’t you go and buy some at the store?” I knew she couldn’t just go to the store, duh, we were in a chunk of metal in midair, but I didn’t tell her that. She proceeded to explain that we were on an airplane and she couldn’t just go to the store. That’s when all the other people and stewardesses started to yell at her to hurry up. She moved on, and I stuck my tongue out at her. We eventually landed in Boston and drove home. When I went to bed that night, I was thinking about school. Third grade was a big deal. Not only did we start multiplying, but we started reading chapter books with no pictures too. I was not excited. We spent the rest of our summer in the community pool and at the park and in the house watching TV. I didn’t have many friends, so the television and my paint set were my entertainment. I also learned to ride a bike that summer. It was June 28th, and I had seen older kids doing jumps in their driveway, so my dad taught me how to ride. I spent the rest of the June riding around as fast as I could. Leslie would read to me every night. Leslie was my older sister. 12 at the time, she had shoulder-length, white-blonde hair tied into a ponytail and wore jeans and a purple sweater. Every day she wore jeans and a sweater. She didn’t normally wear purple, only on special occasions. And today was an especially special occasion. It was the first day of school. She said that purple was the color that kings and queens of ancient times would wear for special events, and so she did too. Every party, holiday, birthday, she would wear purple. On the other days she wore blue, red, pink, green, brown, and sometimes white. I loved her and looked up to her as if she were a queen. Whenever I had a question, she would answer it. Whenever I was worried, she would comfort me. Whenever I was excited, she would jump around with me. We went to a party one day, a birthday party for Leslie’s friend, Hannah. I was talking to Hannah’s younger brother Max. He was babbling about some cat that he had last year. “Well, she was a nice cat, like, I really kinda liked her. I would feed her and pet her but one time she scratched me on the face you see? That’s why I got a mark right there ’cause that’s where she scratched me but she died last February and so we got our dog and my mom named it Tim Johnson, hell knows why, then she just went to make us dinner so I guess his name is Tim but I always call him Timmy.” Then he ran off to go play with another little boy. This got me thinking. I had never had a person in my family die. Well, one time my great uncle died, but I didn’t really know him, I wasn’t even invited to the funeral, but maybe that was on account of me being four at the time. I continued thinking. What would happen if my grandma died? I don’t think I would cry if she died, all she did was hug us and give us gross oatmeal cookies. What would happen if my mom died? I would definitely cry about that one. I mean, sure, she makde me do things and yelled at me sometimes, but she was my mom, and I still loved her after everything. What would happen if Leslie died? I couldn’t take it. I would not be able to function. I mean, what would I do? Who would watch movies with me and go to the pool with me and make mud pies with me? I started tearing up. What would I do? Just sit around all day? I called Leslie inside. I was thinking of getting me a flight simulator for my new laptop. I was thinking along the lines of starting off in a light aircraft and then advancing to helicopters and jet fighters or/and commercial planes. I'm not interested in space ships! Does anyone know of any decent titles? Perhaps you could also suggest where I could possibly pick up some second hand deals. I'm in a church group you see, and they charge me $300 for room, board and food. I need to pay for the Passport (which is about $120), Plane tickets, and any extra money for shopping. I can handle the $420 fee, but I really need to find a very cheap ticket. I know after 9/11, and due to the economy, cheap will not be easy to come by... I've seen prices ranging from $1000 to $2000. I will be flying from Toronto to Montreal-Then from Montreal straight to Barcelona this summer. And I was thinking of bringing a turkey sandwich or two for myself. and some chip like Crispers or something with me to keep my over during flights. and to save money. :) I have never been on a plane and from what I see, no liquids are allowed. So If I made the Sandwiches dry, i.e. no mayo or anything. and bring the Chips on the plane unopened. should I be fine?I have no medical condition requiring me to have food. But Diabetes does run on both sides of my family, and if I don't eat I do get incredibly dizzy. I do no have a credit card because I don't have time to mess with my bank. I'm going on a trip a week from Monday. I'm an adult, 18 just in case you have to know to answer. My Husband is from Brazil so we go visit pretty often. The last time we went we had to leave our dog with my mother. Well we are going back in May and don't have a place to leave her and I won't board her. I just wanted to know of any advice anyone has for flying for long distances with their animals. She is 5 pounds so she will be on board with us. Did you medicate them for long flights? Is it true that they can have trouble breathing in planes with the thin oxygen? What special vaccinations did you have to have? We have called the airline and they have told us what we need but I am just worried that we will get there and there will be some sort of surprise. I have plans to live in Belfast for five months as a visitor and tourist of the United Kingdom. However, rarely do cheaper airlines fly to Belfast, so I'm looking into flights to Dublin then a bus to Belfast. I've gotten mixed messages from customs in that, if I fly into Dublin, I'd have to show a return ticket for 90 days because it's the Republic of Ireland (Dublin is a part of Ireland while Belfast is a part of Northern Ireland-a different country, part of UK with different rules). Belfast's customs say that a US citizen can stay for up to 6 months as a visitor, but since I'd be flying into Dublin, me insisting that I wouldn't live there doesn't count techincally. Get it? Hard to explain. So, I'd like to know if any of you out there in internet world have traveled to Belfast through Dublin and stayed for more than 90 days.
