Flights From Southampton Questions asked

Resolved Question: The Romanis Guide To Club Nicknames!?

Do you know why and how some clubs, perhaps even yours, have a particular nickname, or a previous one? Here's a sampling of some of them: 1. The Glaziers (later Eagles) - Crystal Palace. They had this nickname, a reference to their ground when they were formed and prior to moving to Selhurst Park. Former Manager Malcolm Allison, changed it to the Eagles, after he took over in the 70s, to mark a new beginning. And for a while it worked, they soared from the old 3rd division to the top flight in successive seasons. After a giant-killing FA Cup run, they were considered as possible candidates to be the 'Team of the 80s'. 2. The Pensioners (also Blues) - Chelsea. A reference to former service pensioners at Royal Chelsea Hospital. The club made them welcome and adopted the name from them. 3. The Terriers - Huddersfield. The club chose the Yorkshire Terrier as their mascot in 1920, and incorporated it into the badge. 4. The Toffees - Everton. Someone used to give out toffees before games in the 50s and 60s, probably from a candy shop next to the ground that sold toffees on match days. 5. Red Devils - Man Utd. Took it from the Salford Rugby Team. 6. Black Cats (also Mackems) - Sunderland. A young fan had a black kitten in his pocket throughout the 1937 FA Cup Final, which they won. Also a nearby gun battery was called the Black Cat, and a black feline was the club's resident pet in the 50s.Nicknamed voted by fans in the late 60s. 7. The Baggies ( also Throstles) - West Bromwich Albion. Reference to their supporters wearing baggy pants by Villa fans and the bag men who collected match takings. 8. The Owls - Sheffield Wednesday. Refers to area club is in, Owlerton. 9. The Saints - Southampton. Club was first known as Southampton Saint Mary's. 10. The Trotters - Bolton. Club played next to piggery when first formed. Players had to trot (gingerly) to retrieve balls. So now you know! Enjoy this neat song from Simon and Garfunkel - Cecilia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtWJ4sgyJQI more

Voting Question: ANY helpful information on TRAVEL SICKNESS/PANIC ATTACKS/NERVES?

In a few weeks time me and my best friend are going to southampton, its the first time i've been away on my own (apart from leeds festival) and im really nervous. One of the main reasons why im nervous is because I have to wake up for our flight at 4am, then theres a short car journey, a plane then a bus for 1h 30mins.. all this is during the morning! I dont normally get travel sick, but my nerves seem to take over and it ends up making me feel really lousy and sick - however i havent been sick because of my nerves as of yet, I was just wondering if theres any helpful tips such as what i should not eat before the flight? what i should eat to settle my stomache? what drinks should i stick to? breathing techniques? .. I know i sound so silly, but it really does effect me and this trip is for my birthday, i dont want it to get ruined by me feeling ill or i wont want to go around shopping! :( please any useful information or experiances will be MUCH appreciated! more

Resolved Question: How can I cope with riding on this tiny plane?!?

Next year I'm going to Alderney from Southampton. The only way to get there is by a tiny plane. I haven't been on a plane since I was about 13 (I'm 17 now) and since then I have developed a fear of heights and I often get claustrophobic and anxious easily. I also hate people throwing up so what if someone is sick?! The flight is only 45mins but apparently the plane has no aisle and is less or the same as the width of a car. Has anyone been on a plane like this? How can I overcome my fear? Here is the plane: http://www.alderney.gov.gg/index.php/pid/41 more
