Resolved Question: What is the cheapest way to get from Moscow to Croatia?
I would like to fly one way from Moscow to Croatia in August. I cant find a flight less than USD 450! Is there any low cost that flyes from Moscow to Central Europe? Thank you!! moreResolved Question: Why don't today's piston singles have much much longer range?
I got a book on the history of planes up until 1936, and every so often I come across one like the Bregeut 19, Hughes H-1, and Tupolev ANT-25, which could achieve ranges of 5,406, 2,500, and 6,214, respectively. The latter completed a non-stop flight from Moscow to Vancouver, just outside of Seattle, by flying over the North Pole. It seems like we're trending backwards, since comparable piston singles today would be lucky to claim half that range. Why is that?Maybe the Antonov was a bad example, since it was built by the govt for long range missions during the war, but still.*Tupolev, not AntonovActually so was the Bregeut, but the question as to why these accomplishments didn't translate to GA still stands. moreResolved Question: Im flying from Moscow to NYC, JFK then to Cancun, Mexico and I have aprx 1 hour for connection, is it enough?

I'm finishing up grad school next year and I plan to bring back my cat from Nizhny Novgorod to Kuala Lumpur. There's a 6-hour journey from NN to Moscow and then a 14-hour flight from Moscow to Kuala Lumpur (with a 2-hour stop over in Bangkok). So that's a 20-hour journey overall with him being in his pet carrier most of the time. Does anybody here have a clue how to go about this? I've read some 'how-to's online but I was hoping that some of you have had first-hand experience at travelling with cats in the cabin. Why?
Hi I am flying quite frequently between Moscow and London and for the past 6 years I have been using BA (British Airways). For the past 3 years I have been booking my own tickets on-line (rather than through a travel agent) and I have never noticed anything abnormal. However I have been booking my tickets on 4th of January to fly on 16th. And everything went fine, I've done the booking and got my booking conformation etc.etc. However today I have checked my bank account (HSBC) and found our that I have not been charged for the tickets. even after checking the account details (where they show "available funds") I still saw the same amount available, which means that BA didnt reserve it for themselves. I have booked my train ticket on the same night and have been charged for it on the 5th, so I do assume my card works fine. Is there a reason for concern? Will I be charged later, or is this a one of error where one "lucky" customer gets a free flight? moreResolved Question: Are British Airway miles the same as American Airlines?

Five people (inc. me) are flying HKG-SVO-CDG v.v. in mid-February, after SVO T3 (D) opens officially. However, the problem is mainly with visas. A member of our travelling group holds a passport-type that requires Russian visa, while the rest of us hold visa-free. The dillema is due to the opening of T3, the SVO-CDG flight will be in T3 while HKG-SVO is T2. According to DL and other sources, visa is not required for not exiting the airport (stay within transit area) but is required for moving from T1 to T2. However, on the other hand, Aeroflot says in a press release that it operates a transit bus between those terminals, but I am unsure if it is considered exiting transit area? Hi guys, I am flying from Australia to Italy on the 16th of January and I will be changing flights at Domodedovo airport. Stop over is about 6 hours. Do I need a transit visa? Some people say yes but on the russian consulate's website i found this "Transit visa permits to travel through the Russian territory without stay depending on your tickets, it is issued for up to 72 hours, if you travel by air, or for up to 10 days, if using other means of transportation. Foreign citizens have the right to pass through the territory of Russian Federation without a transit visa in the following cases: - if they make a non-stop air flight over the territory of the Russian Federation; - if they make an international air flight and a transfer in a Russian airport provided they have due documents to enter the country of destination and a air flight ticket with an indicated date of flight from the Russian transfer airport within 24 hours upon arrival (but for emergency landing). - if they reside in a country, that has signed a non-visa agreement with the Russian Federation. Aeroflot Flight 593, a "Russian Airlines"[1] Airbus A310-304 passenger airliner, registration F-OGQS, operating on behalf of Aeroflot, crashed into a hillside in Siberia on 23 March 1994. All 75 passengers and crew were killed. Voice and flight data recorders revealed that the pilot's 15-year-old son Eldar Kudrinsky, while seated at the controls, had unknowingly disabled the A310's autopilot's control of the ailerons, which put the aircraft into a steep bank, and then an uncontrolled dive. The pilots were not aware of the partial disconnection of the autopilot, which occurred with no audible alarm, and did not regain control of the aircraft. The jet was en route from Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO) to Hong Kong's former Hong Kong International Airport (Kai Tak Airport). Most of the passengers were businessmen from Hong Kong and Taiwan who were looking for economic opportunities in Russia. The relief pilot, Yaroslav Kudrinsky (Ярослав Кудринский), was taking his two children on their first international flight and they were brought to the cockpit while he was on duty. Aeroflot allowed families of pilots to travel at a discounted rate once per year. With the autopilot active, Kudrinsky, against regulations, offered to let them sit at the controls. First his daughter Yana took the pilot's left front seat. Kudrinsky adjusted the autopilot's heading to give her the impression that she was turning the plane, though she actually had no control of the aircraft. Next, his son Eldar Kudrinsky (Эльдар Кудринский) took the pilot's seat. Unlike his sister, Eldar applied enough force to the control column to contradict the autopilot for 30 seconds. What nobody knew was that by doing this, he completely disconnected the aileron's autopilot: the flight computer switched the plane's ailerons to manual control while maintaining control over the other flight systems. The plane did not audibly signal a warning that this had occurred, although an indicator light did come on. It apparently went unnoticed by the pilots, who had previously flown planes with an audible warning signal. The first to notice a problem was Eldar, who observed that the plane was banking right. Shortly after, the flight path indicator changed to show the new flight path of the aircraft as it turned. Since the turn was continuous, the resulting predicted flight path drawn on screen was a 180 degree turn. This indication is similar to the indications shown when in a holding pattern, where a 180 degree turn is intentional to remain in one place. This confused the pilots for nine seconds. Soon the plane banked past a 45-degree angle (steeper than it was designed for). This increased the g-force on the pilots and crew, making their bodies feel much heavier than usual, and making it impossible for the Captain to replace his son at the controls. After banking as much as 90 degrees, the remaining functions of the autopilot tried to correct the plane's altitude by putting the plane in an almost vertical ascent, nearly stalling the plane. The co-pilot and Eldar managed to get the plane into a nosedive, which reduced the G-force on the pilots and enabled the Captain to take the controls. Though he and his co-pilot did regain control, their altitude by then was too low to recover, and the plane crashed at high speed, killing all aboard. Families of western victims placed flowers on the crash site, while families of ethnic Chinese victims scattered pieces of paper with messages written on them around the crash site. moreResolved Question: whats the best way to get from riga to moscow overland?

THANKS SO MUCH FOR OPENING! THIS QUESTION HAS BEEN EATING ME UP FOR YEARS! Ok so my parents are in a divorce. I am living in Canada right now, with my mother. But my father lives in Europe (Moscow,Russia). Since I'm 13 he thinks it would be safe for me to be on a plane alone. I was thinking about that for a few years. In the begginng I was scared and not ready. Now I feel like I am ready. I miss my dad terribly. My grandparents also (which I havent seen since I was 9 now im 13). I'm mature enough. My friend also said she volunteered to go with me. I think we can handle, and it would be SUCH a great adventure (I'm a VERY adventurous person). We are both VERY mature for are age. How much will tickets cost? We are probably staying there for a month. And its a flight from Toronto, to Moscow Russia. Is it safe? How should I persuade my mother on letting me go. I feel like I NEED to do this. And may you please.. pretty PLEASE, describe how we are going through the whole security stuff? 1/27/06 – Liberal Party’s Manual Zelaya is inaugurated as president for a non-renewable four-year term. 3/25/09 – Mr. Zelaya calls for a June referendum on constitutional changes that would let him run for a second term. The vote is scheduled for June 28. May-June 09 – The country’s supreme court, top electoral body, and human-rights ombudsman declare the planned referendum illegal. 6/24/09 – Days before the vote is scheduled to take place, military commanders refuse to distribute ballot boxes. Mr. Zelaya discharges the country’s top military chief, Gen. Romeo Vasquez, and accepts the resignation of Defense Minister Edmundo Orellana. The heads of the army, marines, and air force also resign. 6/25/09 – The Honduran Supreme Court unanimously votes to reinstate Gen. Vasquez. Congress approves plans to investigate Mr. Zelaya and possibly declare him unfit to govern. 6/28/09 – Mr. Zelaya is removed by the military and forced into exile. Congress speaker Roberto Micheletti is appointed acting president. 7/5/09 – Mr. Zelaya turns back from an attempt to return home after soldiers clashed with thousands of his backers massed at the airport. At least one man was killed. 7/6/09 – Honduras’ interim government closes its main airport to all flights. Police and soldiers blanket the streets of the capital. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announces that Costa Rican President Oscar Arias will mediate between current Honduran leader Roberto Micheletti and Zelaya. Now, what is interesting are President Obama’s comments on the situation: “Even as we meet here [in Moscow] today, America supports now the restoration of the democratically elected president of Honduras, even though he has strongly opposed American policies,” he said. “We do so not because we agree with him,” Obama said of Zelaya. “We do so because we respect the universal principle that people should choose their own leaders, whether they are leaders we agree with or not.” Talk about a non sequitur! Zelaya went against his country’s supreme court ruling that the planned June 28th referendum was illegal and ordered the military to defy the supreme court. The military stood with the supreme court. Zelaya is kicked out of his country for defying his own country’s laws . . . and Obama supports his return to office because “people should choose their own leaders?” HUH?????? Sounds to me like the people have chosen -they've chosen to kick out their leader!I believe if you read again, you will find they did go through the proper channels, not that Obama said anything like what you are suggesting he meant. You are injecting something into Obama's statement that just isn't there...It's sad that the first three answerers support what was obviously a situation similar to what occurred in Venezuela when Hugo Chavez declared himself dictator. moreResolved Question: How to chnage flights in airport?

I am travelling soon from England to Russia, but rather than clock up £300 on a London-Moscow flight, I am taking the cheapskates option: flying via Ryanair to Riga, perhaps hovering around Riga for four hours, then hopping aboard a train from Riga to Moscow. Will I need to obtain any sort of visa to do this? (I already have a Russian visa btw) Bear un mind that I am an E.U citizen aged eighteen. Thanks! moreResolved Question: What's good to do on Russia's 'Golden Ring', and where can I find out the most about it's history?
I'm an eighteen year-old English kid hoping to travel independently around Russia alone, and, having been deterred from the pricey and potentillly boring Trans-Siberian railway, I'm considering venturing around the Golden Ring. When I say this, I don't just mean in the way that one is always interested in the history of another country, since I'm quite interested in Russia academically, and on a sort of socio-psychological level, also: Russia has overcome incredible obstacles at key moments in its history, reacting against centuries of backwardness and opression with sudden and powerful force. Whatever it is that forms such a thing in a people generates across centuries, and I want to learn about it as much as possible. On a more mundane level, I am quite limited budget-wise - £1000 including a flight tfrom London to Moscow and back. I have a visa sorted to allow me to travel there between 5th October -3rd November, though. Finally, in amidst basking in Russias history and wondering what I can afford, one must remember that I am young, stupid, and want to get smashed on vodka. Journeys undertaken in a perpetually pissed position are all the more welcome. So, given my wants and my lack of money - who can offer me any advice on what to do? If anybody can suggest good places to stay along the way, then that'd be fab. I hope to sleep overnight on trains where possible, and I have a friend who seems willing to let me stay at their flat when I'm in Moscow, so that should ease the load. Anyway - thanks! moreResolved Question: How can I travel round Russia on a budget?
Hi, I'm an eighteen-year-old buck from England. I'm looking to spend a month travelling independently around Russia on a budget of around £1000 (approx 50140 roubles) - including flights from London to Moscow and back. I have my visa from October 5th - November 3rd, but I don't have much money. I'd like to do some cool things, mix with people, get more out of it all than I would if I went on some tour, but i also don't want to spend too much money, which rules out my original plan of going on the trans-siberian railway. Can anyone suggest to me any good ideas? Incidentally, I know a guy in Moscow who will probably let me stay in their flat, but I don't want to spend all my time around Moscow, obviously. If there are any tours which don't attract the usual crowd who expect to stay in plush hotels, go to resturaunts and other pricey things tailor-made for tourists, then I'd be glad to hear about them. Also - does anybody know how easy it would be for me to get around Russia -i..e how many times will I be stopped from going somewhere because I've got the wrong visa and refuse to bribe to police? Thanks very much! moreResolved Question: How much would it cost me to travel on the Trans-Siberian Railway (in Russia) and Back?
I'm planning to spend a month in Russia, travelling along the Trans-Siberian railway in Russia and making perhaps four stops en route. I will be travelling from Moscow to Valdivostok and back, and I anticipate that this will take around 23 days. I would also like to take a train from Moscow to St Petersburg and back, spending one night on the train to St Petersburg, one night in a hostel in St Petersburg, and one night on the train back to Moscow. I'd hope to spend four days after that in Moscow, where I know somebody who's willing to let me stay at their flat. All in all. how much is this likely to cost me? Incidentally, what are the cheapest flights from England to Russia which I can get, and is it possible to get a rail pass of some sort to use in Russia? Thanks! moreResolved Question: want to fly from moscow idaho to wagner college in NY?

It can't be because of Communism. All through the cold war there was trade with the Soviet Union, there were direct flights from NY to Moscow. There were US tourists visiting Russia. Nixon paid a friendly visit to Communist China, even while the Vietnam war was going on, and China and the Soviets were supporting the Vietcong. So why is any trade with Cuba forbidden, why is it forbidden for an American to visit Cuba up to today. Ok, he's a dictator, but there are much worse. The US has good relations with China, at least as much a dictatorship. Even Mobutu of Zaire, man-eater Idi Amin Dada of Uganda and all those bloody dictatorships in Central America had diplomatic relations with the US. moreResolved Question: I booked my tickets on Qatar Airways for my trip to Doha in August. Ok, I'm trying to book multi city itinerary of 3 flights. There's YVR-LHR, and LHR-MOW as first two flights. Initially all sites offer me YVR(Vancouver)-LHR with one-hour connection thru Toronto, and nonstop LHR-MOW on other date. When I choose to fly 2hr earlier out of Vancouver I get 3hr connection in Toronto to the same Toronto-London flight but for whatever reason LHR-MOW nonstop disappears! I can only choose from some useless one-stops thru Warsaw. That is the same on all sites (Kayak, Farecast, etc). Now... When I make 4-flight itinerary, specifying Vancouver-Toronto manually and then Toronto-London manually, I get the itinerary I want (3hr layover in Toronto + nonstop London-Moscow) for correct price.
