Kayak Com Flights Questions asked

Voting Question: When is the best time to buy Air Fare tickets for March?

I'm planning a trip out to Austin, TX for a Music Conference that goes from March 15th to March 21st. I'm planning to arrive there on March 14th & plan to leave (or get back here to NYC) on March 21st (I'm not planning to go to the last event of the conference.). I've checked Priceline, Travelocity, etc. Most of them have expensive prices like $689 round trip on either Priceline or Travelocity (I don't remember which one.). Although, when I went to Kayak.com I saw $220 Airfare & couldn't believe what I was seeing (I chose Hotwire & some other Low Fare engine to compare each other to that Kayak.com has you do.). Now, I'm assuming the Air Fare is Actually $440 WITHOUT the Hotel?? Right? I mean, last yr. I went to Nashville (late July) & I paid $467 from Orbitz.com, but wasn't aware that even though I was checking under the Lowest Fares under the "Flight & Hotel" Category I thought $467 INCLUDED the Hotel Stay (Duhhh...etc.). Only to learn that when I got to Nashville I found out that the Hotel was SEPARATE from the Air Fare. SO...etc.: 1) When is the Best time to purchase these Air Fare (& Hotel) Tickets for my March trip (now, Jan., Feb. or 1st week of March) for a LOW - CHEAP PRICE (Under $500)? 2) What IS a Travel Package - How does this work? OR 3) What does a "Flight & Hotel" Category do for you when it seems like I was paying SEPARATELY (Hotel & Air Fare)? *****I'm not looking to Sight See. I'm going down there to look for any opportunities in the Recording Studio & Music Scene. I've heard that there's A Lot of Live Music (Bands) down there AND A Lot of other Diff. Types of Music (It's a "Business Trip". Not a Vacation.). Please let me know. I really don't know how this system works. Any Help would be appreciated. more

Resolved Question: I want to find a cheap flight- is there a website you can type where you want to go but leave the date blank?

I want to go to Cancun from Salt Lake City, but I really don't care when, I just want to find the cheapest flights possible. I know sites like Kayak.com will let you choose dates 3 days before and after, and they even have a "buzz" option, but are there any websites out there that simply let you choose where you want to go then will just find the cheapest upcoming flights? more

Resolved Question: Weight/baggage limits on airlines from the US to Europe.?

I am from Ukraine and currently study in the US, Virginia. In summer I used lufthanza airlines, and they allowed to have two baggages each 23 kg, and plus, of course, personal baggage to the plane. Now I am going back to Ukraine on Christmas holidays and I have read that now all the airline companies have absolutely another policy concerning the weight limits. Now they allow to have only one baggage, which is 23 kg, and which is 2 times less than it was in summer. And if you want to carry another 23 kg baggage you need to pay $50. I will use Continental, United, Lufthansa. II) Also, if I bought ticket for June 2010 in summer 2009, will this new policy influence this? I mean I bought tickets before the new policy was activated, and logically when coming back home in summer I would be able to carry 2 baggages for free because I bought tickets before the new policy, right? III) Today, when buying tickets I used kayak.com site. I'm going to use Continental, United, and Lufthanza airlines. So the questions is: if I give and check-in all my baggage in the US, will it go directly to Ukraine, despite I have connection flights in London, and Frankfurt? I mean, I don't need to check-in all my baggage again when having the connected flight in London or Frankfurt, right? All of my staff will go directly from the US, which my starting point, to Ukraine, right? more

Voting Question: What is the lowest price I can get on the flight from San Francisco, CA to San Jose, Costa Rico?

Looking up online I found $444 now, but kayak.com also shows that it was $408 few days ago. I also see that few agencies sell vacation packages, including air and 4 night hotel from SF to Costa Rica, for $499. This mans that air price should be much less than $400. So what is the lowest price I can expect and how to get it? more

Voting Question: What's the best way to plan a trip from point a to b to c to a?

I've been using kayak.com to try to book a flight from point a to point b to point c then back to a. The problem is that the cost is almost triple the price of a round trip flight from a to b. I even tried round trip a to b then b to c which is more flying because I have to go back to b before I get home. Can anyone recommend a way to plan a trip like this without getting screwed on the airfare? Or do I need to do it as 2 round trips to save money? Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Does Chile charge foreigners more for airfare?

When I go to book an internal flight in Chile through the LAN airlines site, or through a U.S. site like Expedia or Kayak.com, I get prices that are very inflated. Yet when I look at prices on the Chilean site despegar.com, I get about half the rate. I tried to book through despegar.com and they require a Chilean RUT number(like our social security number in the USA). I put in my US passport number and they wrote back asking for confirmation of my nationality. I get the impression this is a policy of theirs to mark up the price twice as much for foreigners. Does anyone know if there is a way around this? How can I as a US citizen buy a plane ticket within Chile and pay the same price Chileans pay? more

Resolved Question: how can I get cheaper LAN tickets in Chile?

I plan to go to Chile next month and do a couple flights within the country. I notice that when trying to book a ticket from the US through the LAN site online, or even sites like kayak.com, the fares were astronomical! Like a roundtrip from Santiago to Punta Arenas is $750 round trip!!! I could fly from Los Angeles to London roundtrip for less than that! I've heard there are other ways to get flights cheaper once you get inside Chile. Does anyone have any suggestions on getting cheaper airfare there? more

Resolved Question: Is there a website where you can search an OPEN ENDED one way flight?

I'm interested in going to S. America. I'd prefer not to go about the round way route. I love Kayak.com b/c it lets me search 'regions' in S. Resolved Question: Can I take a bodyboard on British Airways flight?

From BA site: http://www.britishairways.com/travel/bagsport/public/en_gb Sporting equipment we do not carry Due to the large size and handling complexities, some sporting equipment cannot be accommodated through the airport baggage system or within the aircraft hold. Therefore we no longer accept the following equipment at check-in as part of your sporting equipment allowance. hang gliders windsurfing boards and sails water skis exceeding maximum dimensions (H+W+L): 158cm (62in) surfboards kayaks, canoes and oars pole vaults javelins --------------- Bodyboards are not specifically mentioned. Has anyone out there managed to carry a bodyboard on a flight since the ban came into effect in November last year (2007)? If so how was it packaged? considering a big suitcase disguise. It's the 1st leg of my trip, 40 minute flight, then flying TAM to brazil, they carry boards no problem. Board dimensions: 43" x 24" x 6" or 110cm x 60cm x 15cm L+W+H = 73" or 185cm Cargo is £285! So not an option. more

Resolved Question: How can I find the BEST international one-way flights to intl. destinations?

Usually, when I want to go to foreign countries, I use Kayak.com. There's a feature called "Buzz" that searches several flights from one airport to a whole region (S. America, Africa, etc). However, this is limited only to round trip flights. It would be great if there was a tool in which to look up average one-way flights to a region as well. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!!! more

Resolved Question: I am flying from Phoenix to Beijing. Is 2hours 25mins enough time for a layover in LAX?

My flight from PHX arrives at 11:15PM on US Air so I am guessing that is Terminal 1. My flight to Beijing departs at 1:40AM from Bradley on China Air leaving me with 2hrs 25mins for a layover. The ticket was booked on kayak.com so I'm not sure if it is a code share. Is that enough time to change terminals? Will I need to pick up my bags and haul them to Bradley or will they be sent to China Air? What is the shuttle service like between terminals? I will have 2 70lb checked bags plus carry on with me. It would be difficult to walk between terminals if my luggage is not sent to China Air for me. What is check in/security like at 11:30PM? Is security for an international flight similar to security for a domestic flight? Will I need to go through customs? This is my first international flight and I am very nervous. While I was booking the flight online the flight got updated and went up to $890. I would appreciate any help. I just want to buy some round trip (maybe direct) flights to the coast of China, but don't want to pay an arm and a leg for them. If anybody knows of any good sites besides something like cheaptickets.com or kayak.com then that would be great. more

Resolved Question: Is there a web site that will let me find a flight to match the amount I want to spend?

I know there are all kinds of fare searchers...kayak.com and farecast.com are two of my favorites! However, most fare search engines need to know where you are leaving from AND where you are going. Given that, they can tell you how much you might spend on the flight and even offer costs for surrounding areas (travelocity does a good job of that). What I would like to do, though, is enter my starting point and how much I'd like to spend....I don't care where I'm going! I'd just like to know if I'm leaving LA and I have $300 to spend, where can I go? I'm spontaneous like that. ;) more

Resolved Question: Flights/tickets ( posted in wrong category before.)?

My boyfriend needs to come see me this december but tickets are a ***** and he doens't get this paycheck until 2 weeks from now.. So we are looking for the absolute cheapest flights.. Ohio to Washington State... Does anyone Know where to get the cheapest prices? or any tips and tricks? please? this would mean sooooooooooooo much to me. kayak.com is neat but is there anything else I can do? anywhere else I can go? Is there a place you can buy red-eye tickets cheaper? thanks! more

Resolved Question: Give me your opinion?

Check out WWW.TRIPADVISOR.COM. Look up a place you'd like to go and read some of the reviews written by the users. Tell me what you think of the website. Also, try www.kayak.too. Check a flight to/from somewhere and see how you like it. Let me know. more
