Open Question: Should I take Spirit Airlines from Detroit to Fort Lauderdale?

The flight prices for Spirit Airlines are awesome... and they have the arrival/departure times that work perfectly with my schedule, but the whole non-refundable ticket thing freaks me out. Is it worth the risk? Will I be left stranded somewhere? Also, I'm going on a cruise (i'm flying in a day before) but i really cannot afford to be delayed a day, etc. as I don't want to miss my cruise! Has anyone ever flown Spirit before? Open Question: could I buy more than one plane ticket.....please read on for clarification...?

I bought a plane ticket from Spirit Airlines. Afterwards, I read in many places that this airline is not the most reliable - as in, they have many delays, cancellations, etc. and I have to catch a cruise ship at a certain time before it departs. Now my question is, because this airline's reputation is so bad, could I buy a plane ticket with another airline for the same day, around the same time, going to the same city? So if there is a delay with Spirit I can just run to the other airline's flight...kind of like a back-up plan? Is this allowed? These are all domestic flights. more

Resolved Question: Family blues? Holiday blues? Why is it like this? This is NOT normal?

I have a really small family, (just mom and I). It is hard for me to get into the whole xmas spirit. Her brother (my uncle) has 2 kids same age as me and they never invite us for christmas or any other holiday for that matter. Im in my mid 30's and still they never even acknowledge us. I hate it! I don't know why this is? I don't even know my cousins. I never get a birthday card or anything from them. My older cousin just got married and I went to the wedding and he completely ignored me. No one talked to me the entire time. I felt horrible for my mom as they didn't speak to her either. We were not even going to go to the wedding but her brother called her and told her that she had to go.(put her on a guilt trip as well) So my mom felt bad and we went, We spent over 2K on that weekend, on flights, hotel and outfits. It was ridiculous! I don't understand why they are like this? My uncles wife is a royal *****, I personally think that she has a tight leash on him. Her family comes first and she has a huge family. I think that this leaving us out (mom and I ) has become a habit since I was 10 years old. It's been hard dealing with this cause my friends families are so different. I feel that I don't know how a family should be.? Plus this is extremly hard on my mom and I feel bad for her. What can i do? Thanks For the last couple of years I have come to the conclusion that these people are not my family, cause family doesn't treat family like this? And im sick of them acting this way. Im tired of trying to figure out why this is. more

Resolved Question: Would Ryanair drop admin charges for changing flight times for me?

I am flying to Dublin for New Year with my Cousin and am due to fly back on the 4th January. However, a friend of the family passed away just over a week ago and found out after we booked the flights his Funeral is on the 3rd January 2010. As my cousin booked it he needs to ring and was just wondering if its worth the phone call? The admin charges will add up to £180 overall and only paid £40 for the flights to are adding £120. Resolved Question: Do You Believe These Pilots Told the Truth?

Before you accuse this of being a repetitive question, STOP! I do NOT want an answer to this question. As some of you have probably noticed, this question has been asked, ad nauseum, since the overflight by the NWA pilots first occured. No.........but if you would, and if you are interested, "Search" this same question submitted by "Dinah" and particularly read the answer by "Cherokee" OK? With me so far? Now, my question: What do you think of this "inside" story that was supposedly submitted by "one of the pilot's close friends" and, somehow, found it's way into Cherokees hands? To recap the "inside story": It was lunchtime. Capt. went to bathroom prior to eating. While Capt. was in bathroom, F/O received call from ATC to change frequencies, but never established radio contact with the next ATC "center" Capt. returned to flight deck and started eating lunch. Apparently, F/O never mentioned that the flight was now NOT under proper communications with the appropriate "center" There was a 100 knot tailwind (presumably, due to this increase in groundspeed, the implication is supposed to be that things were happening "so fast" that the realization that they were getting closer to their destination, just didn't occur them.....yet)........Is this a fair assumption? Why even mention a 100 knot tailwind?....is that supposed to be UNUSUAL at high altitudes? I don't think so. The range set on the Navigation Display of the FMS (Flight Management System) was 320 miles; which is close to max, as I remember. You can imagine, the closer you get to a high density area, how cluttered a presentation on the screen you are going to get. Then, apparently our boys broke out the computers. There occured a spirited discussion of their flight schedules. etc. etc. etc. etc. I stop here, because my skin is crawling..... Without wanting to appear too judgmental here, I've got to let you know that I've got a few professional flying hours myself. The scenario presented in the friend's letter is not an unusual one.....could happen to anyone at anytime. MY question is this: These guys were professional airmen. There is, or is SUPPOSED to be, an "inner clock" in all airmen. It happens!....it grows there, inside you, after you've been flying awhile. i.e. "...I've been in the air for 3 hours, my ground speed is, or has been: 500kts, therefore (allowing for climbout) I've flown approximately 1300 nautical miles..........duh!.....ought to be close to something! myself....... I repeat, these guys were supposed to be professional airmen. All that gobbledegook about .........lunch.......frequency change.......interesting conversation......wrong scale set on Nav Display............SO WHAT? THAT IS WHAT THEY GET PAYED FOR!!!......to be able to have all that happen to them, AND STILL KNOW WHERE IN THE H**L THEY ARE AND WHEN THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO START LETTING DOWN (descending) I get the feeling, this sob story is going to be their defense......they never were in any trouble before.. nobody got hurt....the Capt ate all his vegetables.......they're both church goers....on and on and on Will you excuse me? I had a job interview today with the MD of a company and he began the interview by calling my 2:2 a drinkers degree. Asking me if I was engaged and then when I confirmed this he said that wouldn't work in his company and then asked if my fiance was a jealous man. He also asked me if I was thick twice to which I replied I went to Grammar School and have a Law Degree and he said so what!!!! He asked me when the last time I did drugs was asked me loads of questions about my family and who my friends were. Asked me when the last time I got drunk was and also asked me if I want to have kids. Every thing that I said positive about myself he dismissed and said so what. When I told him I didn't want to be an asshole that I preferred being nice he said nice people don't always cut it and then said there was loads of things in between nice and asshole to which I replied yeah you can sit on the fence and I don't want to do that either. He then said that that was the smartest thing I'd said so far. He then told me he thought I was gregarious and vivacious but that I was a headache. And that he thought my personality was vapid, and he didn't believe that I was really as bubbly as I am, and thought that it is all an act and that I would get tired of putting it on in the job and trying to fit in. He said he thought that all I was out to do was have fun and then asked me if I was afraid of being boring. I gave pretty reasonable responses to all of this and told him I didn't care whether he liked me or not. He also said that he wouldn't buy anything from me, except maybe a £200 deal coz he might think I sounded hot over the phone. He then asked me if I thought I was good looking to which I said yes I do (I am quite pretty but don't see what relevance this has to anything.) he then ended the interview without shaking my hand and took me down a flight of stairs and passed me onto another colleague who escorted me out and asked me how it went. I said I had no idea and laughed and then told him that he had said I was a headache. The guy asked me why he said that I said I didn't know,(because when I probed him on this issue he couldn't tell me why) he said he'd try and find out why he said that. I felt quite confused after this interview but still in high spirits as it seemed like he was just throwing random stuff at me to see how I handled stress situations as this is a sales position. But he was very rude and also asked illegal questions, i.e about my being engaged, when the last time I took drugs was and whether I wanted children!! I do want this job but don't want to work for an ass, I won't be working directly for him as he's the MD but still...., I hope it was just his interview technique and not just how he is generally. If anyone knows what the hell was going on in this interview please shed some light on it for me because I am mightily confused. more

Looking back to that frozen, December night, I deeply regret entering that fearsome, gothic castle. Something strange happened to me that night, something strange that has changed me forever... Massive, wrought, iron gates stood tall, draped in snow covered ivy, gaurding the supernatural world that lay beyond. On either side, mounted on grey stone columns, perched two great crouching rats, carved in stone, each one's jaw gaping open in a snarl, exposing two rows of weather worn teeth. Their tails coiled neatly around their small, clawed feet. Beyond the gate lay an entire mysterious land. Forgotten about. Abandoned. Fled from. The incredulous, thick, cimmerian darkness caped a cloak of sinister evil around the distant, looming silhouette of a castle, of which a long, winding path of bottomless, untrampled, winter, snow lead up to an ancient castle door, which seemed a marathon away from which I stood. A pale moon, dangled, glowing in the foggy, night sky, bathing the scene with a ghostly glow. Storm clouds boiled and frothed in a gloomy sea, swimming towards the castle. Towers belonging to the worn out building, stretched upwards, piercing the sky with their sharp nails. The whole setting was very uninviting, but if it wasn't for the cold, seasonal weather, i wouldn't be here. I needed shelter from the snow storm that was silently brewing above me. The wind began picking up, moaning a thousand painfull cries, warning me of lay in that frightning, unforgiving place. I finally found the courage to tramp up to the castle, towards the unknown, my fate held in the hands of whoever, or whatever may lurk inside. Up close, the castle was much bigger than it had appeared from the entrance. The huge, worn bricks that built up this tremendous building, were crumbled. A curtain of ivy, covered one half of the castle, had been growing uncontrollably for years. The windows were dust-ridden and stained, some boarded up, with mouldering planks of wood, as if to hide what was concealed inside. Gargoyles, of a considerable size, sat bored on each corner of the castle's keep. The whole building was ill, withiring away, left unremembered by past inhabitants, who no doubt had many happy times in the once magnificent home, but the castle had no happiness now, left alone. Unwanted. Happt memories left to decay inside the heart of the neglected castle. Pushing all thoughts of the past aside, i banged on the rotting, wooden door, desperate to escape the harshening conditions of the outside world. I waited a few minutes. No answer. Maybe it was abandoned after all? The icy cold began to chew away at my bare flesh. The storm was here. Snow began to fall ever so slightly at first, then got thicker and faster by the second. I decided unwillingly to shove the door to see if it opened. CC-RR-EE-AA-KK. The rusty hinges squeled agonisingly, just managing to hold the heavy weight as the door smashed against the stone wall. I walked in, It was a teneborous, fear-inspiring place to say the least. The vile, obnoxious smell of milldew and mould hit me. A fire was lit at one end of the room, giving the whole, foreboding place an eerie feel. Embers leaped and bounced like children plating together in the hot, summer sun, before disappearing back into the hungry flames. A long, dusty table stretched from one end of the capacious, hall-like room to the other, a giant, crystal chandeliar hung, directly above the table's centre, suspended on a bolted chain from the vaultered ceiling. Grand dinners fit for royalty, served on silver platters. Family parties. Seasonal holidays spent together, joyfull and memorable, the proof was all around. Portraits decorating the damp, dreary, peeling walls, showed families happy together, painted in fine acrylic and boarded with golden, engraved frames. There were also a number of large tapestries, embroided with fine, gold thread, sewn to perfection. At the opposite end of the room to the fireplace, were a creaking, unsteady flight of stairs, leading, curving upwards into a murky, shadowless gloom, where vermin festered. A rusting, once silver, suit of armour, stood to attention in one corner, holding a sword in one gauntlet, cobwebs plasterd to him, his empty eyes staring into forever darkness. On the far wall, was an array of weaponary; pistols; knifes; kudos, and some items i'd never come across before. The vast echoing room, looked much like a devil's paradise. A breeding ground for spirits and abnormal entities. As I studied the room, i failed to notice the dark, shadowy figure, that had arrived at the top of the staircase. He stood bold and tall, with a wooden, staff gripped in one hand, it's end touching the floor. His shadow alone, matched the stern outline of the Count in the most impressive picture, fastened to the wall above the roaring fireplace.This is the last paragraph: As i caught sight of his beady outline, a shiver shot straight down my spine, sending all the blood in my body gushing to my feet, glueing me to the spot. The prophecies of the Bible had foretold where the great Prophet was to appear. Thus it was said: And he said, the Lord came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them; and shined forth from Mount Paran and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery law for them. (Deuteronomy 33:2) In this verse Moses is promised three manifestations of the glory of God. The first of these appeared on Sinai in the time of Moses. Time passed. The second manifestation promised in the prophecy was to take place at Seir, a part of the world near where the miracles of Jesus took place. "Rising up from Seir," therefore, meant the advent of Jesus. The third manifestation of divine glory was to take its rise from Paran, and Paran (Arabic Faran) is the name of the hills which lie between Mecca, the birth place of Muhammad, and Medina, the town where he died. According to the Old Testament, Ishmael, the ancestor of Muhammad, lived in this part. Thus we have in the Bible: And God was with the lad (Ishmael): and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer. And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran. (Genesis 21:20-21) Historical and geographical evidence shows that the descendents of Abraham lived in Arabia. All of them held Mecca and Kaaba, the house of worship built by Abraham, in great reverence. His son Ishmael first settled in Mecca. Genesis gives the names of twelve sons of Ishmael including two named Tema and Kedar. (Genesis 25:13-16) This is further supported by the testimony of Isaiah where we read: The burden of Arabia. In the forest of Arabia shall ye lodge, O ye traveling companies of Dedanim.The inhabitants of the land of Tema brought water to him that was thirsty, they provided with their bread him that fled. For they fled from the swords, from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war. For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Within a year, according to the years of an hireling, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail: And the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished: for the Lord God of Israel hath spoken it. (Isaiah 21:13-16) This prophetic passage is a picture of the Battle of Badr which took place about a year after the Holy Prophet's migration from Mecca to Medina. In this battle the sons of Kedar , the people of Mecca and the territories around, unable to withstand the fierceness of Muslim swordsmen and archers, sustained disastrous defeat. God made a handful of men, poorly armed and without provisions, the means of inflicting this humiliation on an army led by experienced generals. The battles with the Meccans continued against heavy odds until such time that the Prophet Muhammad entered Mecca after a struggle of several years. This was the time when ten thousands of saints accompanied him. The Holy Prophet declared that the message of God had been completed in the form of the Holy Quran. Thus the prophecy of Moses was fulfilled that the Lord would shine forth from Paran with ten thousands of saints, with a fiery Law in his right hand. Thus also the prophecy of Jesus was fulfilled that the spirit of Truth "will guide you into all truth." His fiery Law, the Holy Quran, consumed all impurities of flesh and turned the grossest hearts into pure gold. Could Jesus have fulfilled this wonderful prophecy? He did not rise from Paran. He had only twelve disciples and not ten thousand saints. Isaiah had spoken of one that fled; the flight of Muhammad is such an important part of Muslim history that the Islamic calendar starts from the very year of migration.And here we have CindyCorn..the paradigm of Christian virtue..LOL!Actually I coped this from a Muslim site. Hi Im 18 and am flying from detroit michigan to orlando florida through spirit airlines. This is my first time flying alone and only my second time flying all together. I have no idea how airports work and I am really nervous about finding where to check in bags, finding my gate on time, and the luggage claim thing. Im not scared of actually flying on the plane I just feel really nervous about not knowing how anything works and If i make my flight on time. Resolved Question: Is my dad a liar?????

my dad tells me stories of how when he was a kid he watched this movie called the exorcist. My grandma ( a hardcore christian) forbid him to watch that movie in her house. Yet he watched it anyway and him and his brother and sister ( my aunt and uncle ) claimed that one of my aunts dolls came to life as a possessed doll and tried to attack them.they say by watching such an evil movie it invited evil spirits or demons into their home. And they also told stories of how when they were kids they would see stuff like angels both good and bad. Like once my dad claimed to see a angel on the side of a plane wing while he was flying and believed it was there to ensure his safe flight. And how he once saw a bad angel trying to scare him in his room as a child. Idk if i believe these stories but my dad says they are all true. Does anyone believe what my dad claims to have seen. I'd like to hear from Christians but all answers are welcome.these are my step dad ,aunt and uncle, idk if that matters. more

Smoke For Thought In 1986 the FAA published an internal Advisory Circular that stated, (quote) "Incidents of fire and smoke that cannot be extinguished continue to occur. New and modified smoke and fire procedures should be formulated, considering that the fire or smoke exposure may be continuous" (unquote). altitude hopefully. How long to descend from 30,000 ft to 9,000 ft? Up-to-date, nothing has been done. In May 1927, the smoke evacuation procedure on Charles Lindberg’s "Spirit of St Louis" was to open the window. Today on an Airbus A340 it is still the same. The accident statistics themselves indicate that it is now the time to open serious discussions about the effectiveness of existing procedures. Only in the USA, over the last 5 years, the FAA have had approximately 4000 smoke reports. (Yes, you read that correctly, 4000!). These figures include all types of operations, commercial and non-commercial, but exclude the military. Thirty percent (30%) resulted in unscheduled and emergency landings. We are led to believe, by the aircraft manufacturers, that existing smoke evacuation procedures work. However, those pilots who were involved in in-flight fire emergencies with dense smoke in the cockpit, and who could have given us valuable feedback on the effectiveness of such procedures, are all dead. The common factor in almost all fire emergencies resulting in total hull-loss with fatalities, is that the time frame between the first indication that something was wrong (i.e. smell, circuit breaker tripping), and the fatal crash, is anywhere from several to a maximum of 18 minutes. Present emergency procedures depend on isolating the possible cause of the fire, and evaluating the result of such action. This takes time, and, armed with the above knowledge, time is precisely what we do not have. And, the fire risks are increasing. The present no-smoking regulations on board aircraft are welcomed by many. However, these smoking restrictions have resulted in concealed smoking by passengers, and in some cases even crewmembers, increasing the risk of an in-flight fire. (How many lavatory smoke alarms did you have lately?). As I said earlier, it is time to start discussions on this topic. Hear are some thoughts... I believe that the first line of the checklist, "land as soon as possible", is the most important consideration, with the emphasis on "as soon as possible", and in my opinion should override other limitations such as overweight landing. I would rather be alive to defend my decision making than otherwise. What this means if our nearest landing runway (suitable or non-suitable) is more than 30 minutes away is that a controlled crash landing or ditching is perhaps the only option. Obviously this is a decision that few people would like to make. In a case of dense smoke in the cockpit I wonder how, in the first place, you can read the different items on the checklist, and secondly how you can find the relevant controls on the overhead panel. I don’t even want to think about the guy who has to fly the aircraft and most probably without an autopilot, due to checklist actions, and without any visual reference whatsoever. In such a situation I believe that the first action is to get rid of the smoke which brings you to the last part of the checklist – "If cockpit window opening required". more

Resolved Question: What does it mean when u dream of a family member?

My grandfather passed 6 years ago...and since then i have only dreamed about him four times...I was never really THAT close to him but had a really nice relationship...i did love him b/c as dramatic as my moms side of the family can be..lol...i trusted him the most...he was a funny one too...but i have noticed that when i am REALLY emotionaly upset...like crisis...He would show up in my dreams...and he always just softly comes in and just "guides" me in what im doing in my dreams...the first two dreams i actually KNEW in my dream that i was dreaming about him and asked him "Abuelo (Grandpa)" is everything going to be OK"..and he would always smile back and say..."everything is going to work out just fine my dear"...and things would really look out for me!...the scary part is ..it NEVER fails...the third time i dreamed about him i was going to take a flight i was very nervous even though i've flown numerous times but this flight was sept 11, 2006...idk but ever since then too i just thought it was scary to travel that date (it didnt cross my mind til the ticket was purchased)..so he shows up in the dream with a mint green shirt and khaki pants and tells me "you'll be fine hun"...scary part is that when i got to the airport i was wearing the same color outfit!!..so lastnight i dreamed about him again (fourth time since 2006)..i was so emotionally upset with my mother and just cried...i said to myself im tired of everyone around me taking advantage or maniputlating me...btw im 9 weeks away from graduating with my RN (Lord willing)..but i have noticed that when there is some sort of "emotional crisis" my grandfather just shows up in my dreams...what could this possibly mean?..I believe that once someone dies ..thats it...they are at rest...b/c "spirits" are demons in disguise so only believe the word of god...but could this really mean that my granfather who i didnt grow up with and barely spent anytime be watching over me?...serious answers only please...thanx in advance... more

Resolved Question: Is Spirit Airlines as bad as people make it out to be?

I'll be flying from McCarran (Las Vegas) to LaGuardia (NYC). I had to book them because my mom was paying for the flight, so I had to choose the cheapest one. Unfortunately, I didn't read the reviews beforehand, and all I've come across are horror stories about how it seems to be part of their "service" to lose your luggage or how the workers have the worst customer service. I also didn't know that they charged for checking in one luggage and for picking out a seat, and had only found out after the airfare payment had been processed. I guess I brought it upon myself for wanting the cheapest airfare without doing research on the airline first, but I had a great experience with JetBlue for nearly half the price of what I paid Spirit. So for all of you who have flown Spirit, will I be cursing myself the whole way to Manhattan? more
