Thailand Flights Questions asked

Open Question: Should I pursue this long distance relationship?

I met him last June in Oregon. He was on a road trip from BC to Texas. We met and had an instant connection. After that one night out together, he asked me to come to Texas for a music festival. I was leaving for a 3 month trip to SE Asia, so I decided to not go. Over the 3 months, we kept in touch. He was very persistent about meeting me, even if it meant that he flew to Thailand. While we didn't meet in Thailand, he asked me if I wanted to meet him in Hawaii for his birthday in February. I said that I might be able to. I ended up coming back from my SE Asia trip in January. When I got back, we started chatting again. We decided that he was going to fly to Oregon to visit me for the weekend. He flew all of the way from Philly, since he was working there to Portland, then drove to Central Oregon. We were having such a great time that he extended his trip from 3 days to 10 days. We had an amazing time together. Now, we keep in touch almost every day. I am not sure what to do now. Although my mom is a flight attendant and I can fly for free to Texas, I could only go on the weekends. I also just got a wonderful new job, so I can't be taking sick days here and there to make the weekend trip really worth it (esp. since there is a chance that I might not make a standby flight). He asked me when I would visit again and I told him when the next 3 day weekend comes up. But, since he works remotely, I feel like it makes more sense for him to fly here again..I am not sure if I should push the subject. I already feel like in the last couple of days, we haven't been talking as much or as deep about our feelings. I hope he isn't pulling away? I really, really care for him and want this to work. I am just not sure how. Please help! more

Open Question: What is the legal drinking age in Thailand?

Please no patronizing, no bs, just the straight answer. Also, what is the legal drinking age on an international flight leaving the United States on an airline that is an INTERNATIONAL carrier? Thank you in advance and I will be sure to give you a thumbs up. more

Resolved Question: Can anyone answer a series of questions I have about Thailand travel please?

Yes, I'm back with another series of questions about Thailand (something I omitted in my first set of questions because I didn't want to have too many topics flying around). Thanks again for those who really helped me with my previous questions, by the way. I received some really helpful tips. Ok here we go. I put in as much detail as I could to elaborate on the situation I'm in. Because I'm pressed for time (something unavoidable), I'm cutting a lot of my time short in Thailand to see as much as I can. A portion of my trip will include a day trip to Sukhothai (via Phitsanulok) and 2 days in Chiang Mai before returning to Bangkok. This schedule can't be changed due to time constraints and because of the 2 other blokes I'm traveling with. 1. From Bangkok to Phitsanulok, I was thinking of taking a train. I went online to find a train schedule, but the ones I found were either from a blog in Thai or just really confusing English. Is there a sleeper-train from Bangkok that can bring me to Phitsanulok in the morning? If so, how long is the train ride and around how much would a one-way ticket cost? 2. On the same day after spending the day in Sukhothai, I wanted to head up to Chiang Mai. What's the recommended way to get there from Phitsanulok station - by bus or by train? With your recommended mode of transportation (bus or train), how long would the commute be and roughly how much? 3. After spending sometime in Chiang Mai, I was recommended to fly back to Bangkok because it's faster allowing more time for me to decompress and get ready for more Bangkok sightseeing. What airlines do you recommend I fly if I want to get back into Bangkok cheaply? 4. Also, I was told that I should just book the flight when in Thailand versus before I head out because it will be cheaper to buy it in there. Is this true? If so, where do you recommend I go to buy tickets (for 3 people) one way from Chiang Mai to Bangkok? Lastly, what is the average ball park for a flight from Chiang Mai to Bangkok (I don't want to get ripped off). Thank you SO much for helping me with all my gazillion questions. Any and all relevant answers are welcomed. If you have other recommendations that you feel are better than the above plans, I'd love to hear them as well. Thanks again for your time and concern. more

Resolved Question: visa' s and travelling?

I'm going off to Thailand to dive and master poi (fire dancing) my problem is the whole visa situation, apparently i can arrive in Thailand, they'll give me a visa and its valid till the end of the month. there after i have to leave the country, renew my visa and come back. the only problem with that is i have heard they've changed the return time for visa to 14 days before it must be renewed again, and i'm planning to be there until December. i can apply for a 3month visa here, but there are big issues with my air ticket being a return flight scheduled until December, which wouldn't be allowed with a 3month visa because they have to know what i am going to be doing during my stay. so to clarify here. is the Thailand visa once renewed only valid for 14days and what do you think i can do. i'm leaving the 30th march so i must act quickly more

Resolved Question: where can I go in a few weeks for a cheap break away....?

I'm thinking of going away the last week in March and possibly returning 7th or 8th of April. I did think of India but the flights are really high... Resolved Question: Is the Thailand word 'MALI',it means Jasmine flower,is derived from Tamil word 'MALLI'?

Malli is the jasmine flower worn on the head by Tamil Women.Same word in Thai language too. Malli is grown in large quantity in Tamil Nadu and airlifted to Singapore and Malaysia by daily flights and it reaches fresh. Baby Elephant Named in Melbourne This baby elephant is the first-ever born at the zoo here in Melbourne. And to come up with a fitting name, Victoria residents took part in a naming competition. And the winning name was “Mali,” the Thai word for jasmine. Today she was officially named during a Buddhist ceremony at the zoo. [Katie Pahlow, Zoo Spokesperson]: "Just as a demonstration of how much she's captured the hearts and minds of so many Victorians, we had 34,000 entries into the competition." Zookeepers say Mali is drinking around three and a half gallons of milk each day and is putting on about three to four pounds of weight. http://english.ntdtv.com/ntdtv_en/ns_offbeat/2010-02-25/658724654001.html more

And B I need to get back to Bangkok from Samui to fly home, Bangkok airways flights are £88 from samui ! Do you think its worth it paying that as its easy and quick or better to head to Surat by boat then fly from Surat to Bangkok (flight is only £30 from surat) but im only there for 3 weeks so dont want to waster last day travelling around ......any advice? Will the ferry /boat combo take forever and end up costing nearly as much in transfers etc?is this how i reply? thanks so much.....heard the same about krabi.....was just going to use this as a stepping stone to get to samui. i understand what you are saying about the flight......don't want to be fixed to anything......how much does the ferry/bus from samui to surat cost? really not sure what the best option is.....save £40 and ferry it or sod the £40 for convenience! yes also heard that about samui. is there a way to set up a transfer to phang yan from the airport when we land?? thanks agin!! more

Resolved Question: How long would 6000 euro (8000 united states dollars) last YOU travelling southeast asia?

Im talking about travelling indonesia, malaysia, thailand, cambodia and vietnam (and maybe singapore not sure about the expense though) but not on too tight a budget and going solo if possible (or with a group or couple). Going to the main places (i.e bali, jakarta, kuala lumpur, kho phangan samui, bkk, phuket, phnom penh, saigon and more)with a good bit partying and seeing some of the main attractions and flying the long journeys (bkk to bali via air asia). Even if you budget yourself far less (to prolong your visit) or spend more than above would love to hear your answers. Cheers. p.s mine would be 2 months (including my return flight home) is this too little for too much in your opinion.??i was in laos the internet is faster than my country...i didn't add it coz im not going there this time more

Resolved Question: Help!! Should i travel overseas or get plastic surgery?

Well heres the problem. Im 16 and i am desperatly wanting rhinoplasty surgery and otoplasty(ear Correction) surgery. This is because ive been told by many people at my school and even family members that i have a big nose(it is very wide and long... not that attracting) and i agree with them. Ive done a bit of research and im in New zealand and planning when i get a bit older of going to thailand and getting it done a lot cheaper. The total cost for the procedures is around $15000NZD includes everything from flights, accom, procedures. But on the other hand next year my history class is going on a history trip overseas. (well about 14 out of 30 are going). They travel to Singapore, london and paris for 3weeks. The trip costs $5000NZD. My mother told me not to worry, i could go on the trip if i wanted to. But i would rather use this money to save up for plastic surgery rather than spending it on something that is only going to last 3 weeks. Can anybody give me some advise please. more

Resolved Question: Thailand vs. Bali- cheaper flights (from Seoul) and cheaper accomodation?

Hi, I am planning a trip with my mom and her friend to either Thailand or Bali. I am coming from Seoul and they are coming from canada, through Hong Kong. We are looking at going the first week of April- so if i could leave march 31st on a red eye plane, and stay till April 6th and leave on the red eye as well. I want to know what are the cheapest ways to get a flight- round trip from Seoul. I dondintwant to be overrun with tourists either. A beach and a chance to do some hiking and interacting and checking out some local culture would be fanastic with a chance to hang out on a beach. What is a villa, and is that a better price then a hotel? more

Resolved Question: Thailand beach holiday? WHERE?

Me and my boyfriend are heading to Thailand March/April time and heading to Bangkok, Chiang Rai and then onto a beach area. The main thing we want to do is relax, swim, maybe go on some boat trips to nearby islands, and possibly other activities and sites to see for a few days. We want somewhere which is not too difficult to get to such as 3 flight changes and a boat, we don't mind a flight and boat ride to get there but obviously if we are only here for 2 weeks and after already flying to the other destinations we do not want to be stuck travelling for hours. Easy to get to ideally from Bangkok We were thinking about an area of Phuket but i am put off by it being too touristy and not 'proper' Thailand, we are both in our 20's so would love a few bars and things to do at night but do not want a place too touristy and English! Any ideas will be greatly appreciated more

Resolved Question: Worried about flying again?

I'm going to be flying to Thailand in a few months times from England. This is roughly a 14 hour flight. I'm definitely the sort of person that worries A LOT. I don't think I've ever had a panic attack or have suffered bad from claustrophobia before. In fact I've flown to Turkey before which is an almost 4 hour flight. Why am I so worried about flying for 14 hours? I was just wondering if there was a way I can be reassured and is it really worth worrying about? Thanks a lot.I forgot to add - when I flew to Turkey I was completely fine. Didn't really worry at all. more

Resolved Question: Can I take a drink of water on my flight? What are the restrictions?

I'm going to Thailand in April and am worried because I know there is a restriction that you cannot take more then 100ml of liquid in your hand luggage. I have been told that it's not a problem because you can buy drinks in the duty free part of the airport (after the checks) and take that on the plane. Is this true? and if you can't take water what can you do because I get dehydrated very quickly and drink a lot of water. more

Resolved Question: Going to Thailand for new years and january? do we book accommodation?

Planning on going to Thailand for new years and stay for around 3 weeks. We are definitely going to book our full moon party accommodation well in advanced, and our flights however we have been told to not book accommodation until we are there as it can be a lot cheaper even though its peak season. We are going to try and avoid staying in Bangkok and probably only go to phuket for 3 days. We plan to go to Koh Samui, Chiang Mai, Krabi and not sure where else. Do you suggest that we book accommodation through agent, or maybe book our first nights accommodation and try bargain for the rest? Also, any other suggestions for places to go in or around thailand? ThanksI am trying to avoid Bangkok as I have been to bangkok before and didn't really like it so have no interest in going there again. Of course, if it is easier to stay in Bangkok for one night due to flights then I will, just going to try plan around not staying there. more

I'm planning to get away from vancouver during the busy olympic season and make use of the free period during post secondary break. So being a student with a part-time job and on budget, Thailand sounded good to me. Naturally, english and mandarin are not the native language in Thailand so I have couple questions to ask. 1. i'm canadian so should i apply for visa in canada or does thailand do landing visa 2. should i book online ticket and hotel (maybe package from expedia) or go to travel agency? 3. i'm thinking of going diving or snorkeling, staying on the beach, visiting temples (especially the very accient ones), visiting the big buddas. Where should I go for those 4. i also like night life and culture stuff, so where should i go for those? 5. i am thinking of flight to bangkok and go around from that point, how easy is it? 6. should i hire personal guides? 7. anything else you guys can think of that might help me in this trip? 8. how long should i stay to complete question 3 and 4? thanks a bunch. i did look up lots of info online, but none of them actually helps me from deciding...so please let me know more

Resolved Question: 24 hour check in at Thailand Hotels?

We are travelling to Thailand and only have a few days there because of the way our flights are organised. We land at Bangkok airport at 01.10. We don't want to waste anytime so we were planning on getting a taxi to the beach resort of Pattaya - the only problem being we will arrive at our beach destination at around 3am and need to find a hotel that will allow us to check in and have a room. We would like to prepay for all our accommodation before we leave (as we won't have access to a credit card) and this will also take away the hassle of having to pay for things when we are out there. Does anyone know of any hotels in Bangkok or Pattaya that would allow us to check in at 3am ish?! Is it just a case of contacting them to ask?! Thanks more

Resolved Question: Kidnapping/rejection dream? Can someone interpret?

So I had a dream I lived in a big house with lots of people I'd met throughout my life, then I saw all these spiders in a glass room and got worried, but no one else was concerned, people were walking through the room etc. I felt embarrassed after that for some reason, so I went to leave the house (which felt like a really big deal, it felt like people weren't supposed to just leave). As I opened the door, 4 men (which I don't know) rushed at me and kidnapped me, carrying me down a big flight of stairs away from the house. They took me to my boyfriend and his best friend (I live with both of them uhh...in real life : P) who were making Molotov cocktails (WTF!?) and totally unconcerned with me being totally stressed about being kidnapped. So I went to go back to the house and my bf didn't care, i remember being hysterical. On the way I met someone else who'd left the house, a man I met once in Thailand. He declared he'd look after me, and took me to live in a tent just behind the house kinda secretly. Then he rolled a joint (weed) and I tried to smoke it and it fell apart. The end. WTF!? What is all that supposed to mean?!? more

Resolved Question: im planning a trip to southeast asia, australia etc...?

My two friends and I want to visit our friend in Perth this summer. We're from ireland and want to visit other places too while we're all the way over the other side of the world. We went to travel agent and roughly planned 1st stop, 1st week bangkok thailand. week 2: laos, cambodia, vietnam. week 3: perth. week 4: sydney week 5: new zealand & max 5days in LA. All the flights are going to cost us €1241.00 which is fine. But its the spending money we're worried about. We want to try cut down by one or two weeks or take out any expensive place to stay in. I know south east asia is going to be cheapest, and probably LA the most expensive. Our priorities are Perth, LA, Thailand. Any ideas what countries/places we can cut out or add in instead? I was thinkin sydney but isn't that supposed to be amazing? Anyway personal experiences would really appreciated and also how much money did you need/want? And also i've been to bangkok before so i know what thats like. But i'm worried my 2 friends aren't going to like vietnam, cambodia and laos. I'm up for anything but i'd rather not go if they're gona complain. Maybe some of the gorgeous islands like phuket would be better? All suggestions, ideas, stories, experiences etc really appreciated, thanks! more

Resolved Question: Thailand Tourist Visa?

Me and some friends are arriving into Bangkok, Thailand and have a return flight booked 39 days later, however we will be spending some of that time in neighbouring laos, vietnam and cambodia, but have no proof that we will be visiting these places. Because our proof of leaving Thailand is 39 days later and therefore after the 30 days given for a tourist visa on arrival will we have to get a visa before we go even though we will not be spending all 39 days in thailand? help would be very useful... Thanks! more

Resolved Question: spending money at thailand?

hello! hope you can help me out here.... i am going to thailand for 5weeks and i am going to take $4000 - $4500 (US dollar) to spend in thailand together with my boyfriend. just going to do some shopping, tours, some partying at the bars and at the clubs over there and relaxing at the beaches. (if this is important..... we dont plan to eat at expensive restaurants, maybe just 2/3 times) and flights, hotels and transfers has been organized and paid in full. so do you think that will be enough money for me and my boy friend to spend? or not enough? and we might bring our credit card for emergency reasons. thank you more

Resolved Question: Can we fly either direction to Asia from USA?

I think most flights leave the USA and fly west to Asia (over Pacific Ocean) . But do flights ever travel east over Europe to get to Asian Countries? Are some countries like Thailand closer by flying East? I would think the earth's rotation would make flying east impractical. But if you are in New York, flying to Thailand, do you still fly west over California? This has always puzzled me. What is the main determining factor ; earth rotation or distance?Wow, Carlos and Nako: Two great fast answers! You both gave me something new to think about. NICE! and thank you! more
