My 5 year old daughter is always so concerned with the way she looks. Every morning is a tear-full struggle to get her to just get dressed and go to school. She is always watching shows on TV like Hannah Montana and Wizards of Waverly place and Sonny with a Chance. Then when she goes to get dressed she is so concerned with her style it's almost absurd! She will NOT go to school in jeans and a t-shirt. She has to have "accessories" and is forever in her room tying scarves thru belt loops and adding layers of shirts and when she's finally ready she does look cute, but it takes forever and she still asks over and over if I really think she looks ok. And she's constantly telling me she either doesn't match...or she matches to much and needs contrast! What kind of 5 year old talks like that????!!! The other day I found her cutting slits in the neckline of a perfectly good shirt and weaving a chain necklace through it!! I have no clue where she gets this, besides the TV shows she watches, were just a t-shirt and jeans family. I'm concerned that she has a bad self image and feels the need to compensate by wearing her clothing "experiments". She even tells her 7 year old brother that he needs to learn to accessorize because he looks slouchy, then she told him to be careful or he will make himself look to feminine if he over does it! There are numerous episodes of Nick shows where are are obviously poking fun at the Disney channel. Here are a few: "Drake and Josh", "Battle of Panthatar" - Josh sits down to watch TV and you hear a voice say, 'And now back to Suzanna Louisiana!' Obviously they are referring to "Hannah Montana". Josh then says "NOPE!" and changes the channel. "Back and the Barnyard" (not sure what episode) - Freddy the ferret is tied down, and being forced to watch a television as torture. On the TV you hear singing, something like, 'We're in high school, it's a musical!' And Freddy starts to scream. "iCarly", "iTake on Dingo" - The iCarly team get angry when they realize that the TV show "Totally Teri" on the Dingo channel is stealing their ides from iCarly. The Dingo channel is very similar to the Disney channel. While watching "Totally Teri" you can hear very corny jokes coming from the television, which Sam and Carly fake laugh to. Later, they talk about the rumor of Charles Dingo (the creator of the Dingo network) being frozen in the Dingo studios, just like the rumors about Walt Disney being frozen as well. "Big Time Rush", "Big Time Bad Boy" - The boys learn that WayneWayne is not as tough as he appears to be when they learn that he played the very dorky 'Towel Boy' on "Magic Middle School" (which seems to be a take on "High School Musical" and "Wizards of Waverly Place"). They show a small clip of "Magic Middle School" where three basketball players (wearing a logo similar to a wild cat) spray hoses "magically" (and very poorly done on purpose) onto the towel boy. "He looks hot!", "Better cool him off!" (towel boy is sprayed), "I guess I'm the one that needs the towel!" So, are there any episodes or movies from the Disney channel that do the same to Nickelodeon? I love Nickelodeon, but I don't really watch the Disney channel, so I wouldn't know. Why is it that shows like iCarly or Hannah Montana can't say, for instance, youtube or Starbucks? I noticed that iCarly came up with Skybucks, a coffee company with the exact logo and design of Starbucks, but with a slightly different name. Why is it that more adult shows say the names of the actual companies without hesitation (youtube rather than splashface, starbucks rather than skybucks) but the kiddy shows can't? It has caught my attention that a lot of sitcoms, especially comedies contain a bunch of men AND boys who distinctly act like a bunch of retards. I figure its probably because the TV industry tries to cater to women who are a majority of their audience. Does it gratify women to see the females on TV seem more mature, clean and distinctly more talented than the men? I was born in 1992, and grew up watching cartoons like Magic School Bus, Arthur, Bill Nye the Science Guy, and other entertaining and at least remotely educational TV shows. Alright, so I'm confused about all those famous singers we all see on TV. Are they really good singers? I mean all those Disney stars that can suddenly sing, can they really? Come on, I've watched videos of their live performances and their voice is just way off the notes we see on the music videos.
