This is my first chapter from my novel, Not-So-Secret Runaways, sort of a child-book suited better for ten to twenty year olds, but anyone can read it. Please don't critisize, but feel free to tell me if its good or if anything's bad. I know its a bit long (five pages) but read as much as you can and please tell me what you think!!! Here it goes: Okay, so, I wasn’t the one of thinking of running away. Technically, it was the evil mastermind I call my brain. It wasn’t exactly how I’d run away, but why. Every night, I had to lay out tomorrow’s clothes, change into pajamas and tell Cody that there was no monster underneath his bed. Then I could finally crawl over to my bed, only to wake up again to the same thing. Another thing was my name. I’m not exactly the commercial type of girl, but I don’t panic about pimples that haven’t happened yet, either. My hair is dark brown nearly to my elbows, and my piercing gray eyes look impossible against my pale skin-which basically made me avoid looking people in the eye most of the time. Most girls’ names I know are Tiffany or Lila or something normal-but no, I had to be named December. Mom always said it was a pretty name, since I was born in December and all. I guess it would be, if we lived on Planet Name-a-Month. And yet another thing about running away was my siblings. Cody’s the youngest; he’s only four, but he can dream up a lot of things already. There’s me, December Taylor-I’m only twelve-and Luke, who’s sixteen. I’m stuck in the middle. I had anything and everything planned out. I had packed up everything, I had picked my partners, but the thing was, I didn’t know where to run away to. This was California. Not as exciting as New York, but loud enough. Our condo was dangerously near Hollywood, in Los Angeles. One step out the door and some mob of girls might think you’re Zac Efron. But that’s where I planned to go. In Hollywood, you could put on a pair of sunglasses and walk around telling everyone you were a commercial hit star and everyone’d believe you. In Mellow Park Middle School, it was like every single student was rich and some child of a superstar. If they weren’t, they’d claim they were. We had a Hannah Montana sister here every other day. Okay. I know what you’re thinking. Running away, how irresponsible, blah, blah. Well, think what you want, but you’ve never seen my family bickers and arguments and things Luke did to Cody and Cody did to me. The plan started when mom told me about some tutoring class that’ll start next week she signed me up for. So, I thought it was time to start the plan and tell my partner. You had to pick carefully. Not someone who complained, but someone who were useful with things. Not someone who was lazy, but someone who liked to help. Not someone who was too loud, but someone who could keep a secret. And so that was why I picked Claudia Wellman. She was always quiet and had a book in front of her face, but in Physical Education, you would never guess she was ever quiet. If you’ve never seen Claudia run into P.E., you’ve never been truly frightened. She always had a crooked smile, more crooked than mine. She had hair the color of ravens that curled up when it touched her shoulder. We always shared side comments on things, like the class’s activities, but we were never truly close. We had too many differences on that part. Claudia was always quiet, I was outgoing. The only things we both had in common were we both loved to write and draw and we were on strike against math. And we both agreed boys were idiots. I knew Claudia had a hard life. Her parents were divorced and she had to live with one parent each month. She was only living here in Hollywood Square because her mom got a job as a receptionist at the Square Hotel, and she had three older brothers, all who basically ignored her. I had given the idea of running away a lot of thought. If I did run away, all my problems of home would be solved, but surely new problems would also come up, too. I could visit home from time to time, get some money or food and all-but right now, I wanted to be free of a boring life’s curse. I figured I could give it a shot. At lunch, while Claudia buried herself with Moby Dick, I picked up my lunch tray, took a deep breath, and sat down next to her. “Oh, hi, December,” she said, putting her book down, flashing her crooked smile. “Hey, Claudia,” I said, picking at my hamburger. “So, how’s life?” She sighed. “You know, the usual. Mom arguing, dad moving, brothers being stupid…things are going normal, basically.” We laughed, and then an awkward silence took hold. “Don’t you ever think of running away?” Claudia didn’t seem surprised. That was the thing I loved about her personality; Claudia was always prepared and could turn your question around. A lot of people (some I know, some I don't) they are striving for one life style. Okay, that sounds weird, let me explain. There are people that are kind of weird - as a whole. They drive a weird car, they have a weird face, they wear weird clothes and they also talk weird (stuff). There are people who look like punks, they have funny hair colors, they like to listen to punk music, they strive for an alternative style (clothing, language, and so on). Then there are goths, they dress all in black, black make up, they look kind of scary and they listen to goth music. Then there are wannabe Paris Hilton girls. They dress all in pink, listen to Hannah Montana and other girlie music. They use the word "like" the whole time. You know what I mean? "He said bla bla bla, and I was LIKE bla bla bla, LIKE if bla bla bla"! You get me??? (I don't know, maybe this is only annoying for me because English isn't my first language...) Anyway, so here I am. I like to dress like a girl, not necessarily in pink (although I like pink), I like to wear (short) skirts, high heels, huge sun glasses, nice dresses...whatever I am into fashion. I don't use "LIKE" all the time, and I love to listen music my Marilyn Manson, AC/DC, Metallica, so more the Rock/Heavy Metal genre... Am I weird? I realize there are probably more people like me out there but I don't seem to meet any??? I really love fashion!! I wear skinny jeans often, boots, and jackets like other girls.. But I don't like blending in. I am inspired (by Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana) into fashion. I wear knee highed socks with a top that matches one of the colors in the sock most of the time. I also where skirts a lot when it is 40-50 degrees. I sometime where legging outfits. I also wear a cute mini sticker that match my outfit scheme once in a while (try to once every few months) near my eye. I curl my hair often, and try to get cute outfits. Am I still not up to that fashionable level? I mean, all the other girls wear Aeropostale, Uggs, etc. But I want to be diffferent and I don't want to look like some freakk! more

My least favorite celebrities are: Miley Cyrus- Shes a brat! Not only does she play one on Hannah Montana. Shes also one in real life. Its like every time she doesn't get her way, she'll tell her daddy. One of these days, her daddy's not gonna be on this earth. Then, who is she gonna turn to? Plus, she thinks the world revolves around her. Oh, & I forgot to mention. One time, she threatened her dad that if her boyfriend doesn't move in with them, she'll move out! I am confused that I don't have any friends. Here's is what I wanted to ask you guys: I have been told that I look pretty but there has been a most girls at my school would look at me a smile at me.... I know why... b/c I have ask a classmate about this and they said, ''Because you are pretty"! Alot of the girls I see that did smile at me and said hey to me, so I thought that it might have been easire to try and talk to them as a friend. I actually tried to be a good friend and talk to them, try to get to know them but they would just talk to me one day and the next day.... they would just pass me by when walking in the hallways, didn't even say hi, only if I said hey, how are you and stuff, all it seems like is that they don't want to be my friend. I tried to be nice and stuff but it still doesn't do it good. Also, I have had this one girl who wanted my cell phone number, so she can call me and stuff, and as school ends, time to go home, they would not contact me. I don't know..... Maybe they just forgot, whatever, I don't know. I mean if there is someone out there who wants to get my number, why not just call me and be friends or buddies or whatever. I need some friends badly, real badly. I am nothing without friends. All you boys and girls out there..... A friend is so important for everybody in their everyday lives! Friends are sooo good to have because you learn lots of different ways to grow up to be an adult. It is also good because you can get a relationship with guys you love and have a crush on. Without friends.... you can't learn about the bad things and good things that happen in the real world (aka.. I was watching a true life episode, and this girl Ali, wore wigs all the time just because she liked them. I have really hard hair to deal with, like i literally spend an hour and a half on it each morning, and it still looks really thick. I absolutely hate it. I tried wearing a wig for a week last year and a lot of people at school made fun of me - calling me a Hannah Montana wanna be, Brittany Spears, asking if it was a weave, or even trying to pull it off.
