My husband and I rarely drink. I especially dislike the taste of alcohol, I don't care for beer or hard liquor and will only partake when the beverage is on the "sweet" side (i.e.-apple cider ale, Mike's lemonade, rum with fruit juice... etc). I would like to start drinking of red wine, mainly for the health benefits. However, since I have the palate of a three-year-old, it's hard to find wine I can tolerate. Mostly, I find wine of any type to be too bitter and acidic tasting--just not pleasant at all; I can barely finish a small glass. So, I haven't been able to "train" my buds to appreciate wine, much less drink it without making the "yuck" face. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive red wine that won't entirely offend my infantile taste buds? I live in the suburbs of a big city, so I do have access to plenty of choices, including Trader Joe's, Cost Plus, and Whole Foods. (please, red wine suggestions only--not interested in white or rosé). Thanks! PS-I did try a red wine once that I liked (can't remember type or vintner). It was Italian, very expensive, very delicate, and nearly flavorless (there had a very faint oak taste, but zero bitterness and no acidic aftertaste). I haven't tried anything like it since. If I get the chocolate fountain, it will save me about $200 as apposed to having the sit down dessert of parfait, fresh berries, ice cream, or sorbet. Voting Question: How do I fight drunken sleepiness?

I don't know if it is due to increased stress in my life or what, but every time I drink heavily, I pass out quickly. Seriously, most people get wild, or slow down a little bit in terms of mentality. But I will drink no more than these other people and pass out instantly. And I'm a big guy...roughly 300 pounds! This isn't how alcohol use to affect me, but now that it does, I can no longer really enjoy a good wine/liquor/ beers with my buddies. Okay, so I am 28 years old, but I have never had an alcoholic drink. For a variety of reasons, I have decided to branch out and drink over the next few weeks to see if I like it. I have no idea where to start! I have the funds to try some different things (I don't need to be cheap, but I don't want to go broke), but I don't think I will keep drinking after next month. So, if you knew someone who was going to drink for one month, and one month only, what would you tell them to try? I would like to try some different things and I want to really taste a wide variety. The only think I don't want to try is bloody mary kinds of stuff (not a fan of tomato juice). So suggestions? What are the top five things I should try? He has generously offered to pay for the 5 hours of open bar (house brand) included in our hotel's wedding package. House brand consists of Bankers Club liquor (never even heard of it!), house wine (red and white), and three different kinds of beer (like Budweiser, Coors Light, Labatts). To upgrade to "premium" bar for the night, with brand name liquors, wines, and beers (Heineken, Yuengling, etc.) will cost an extra $600. I really want the upgrade, but I do not want my future father-in-law to feel obligated to shell out another $600 because of a "bridezilla". My fiance and I are willing to pay the difference. Is there a tactful way to accept his contribution, and then put our own money down for the upgrade? When he shows up to the reception and sees the upgraded bar, might he be offended that we didn't just gratefully accept what he paid for?Thank you for the support!! I have a 9 yr old and a 4 yr old. We have been married five yrs in the beginning we both drank alot. Probably 200 dollars a week. I feel guilty yelling at him as i know it wont change things and i took him this way Its not an exageration he has really cut down that much and now i dont drink at all. But when he does drink he drinks 4 real. Anyways this obviously is not working for us he got a dui last yr. and hasnt learned his lesson because on occassion that i argue and wont go get him more to drink he has gone himself last nite i poured it out to come home after working all nite to him passed out and of course more alcohol in the house. Im just at a lost besides kick him out for jis own good but i think he might just drink somewhere els and when i tryed to ask him to leave nicely he refused and always wants to work it out He never promises not to drink we both know that wont happen i feel like a hypocrite but i really dont drink anymore I just changed because at the time i was drinking i was very depressed plus it cost money by the way i'm the only one working And also because i realized i didn't want my kids to see me that way. Every time i drink i need to be cautious with what I'm drinking because i never know if i will have an allergic reaction to it .. for example it took literally one sip of red wine for my face to get red and hot immediately .. other drinks that I've gotten an allergic reaction to are Hypnotic , Alize , and other "fruity" drinks. I'm OK with beer i can tolerate it and i don't get an allergic reaction to it. I'm almost 25 and I know that I drink too much. The problem is two things for me that feed into me drinking a lot. One, I have moved around the country a lot alone and I'm a huge sports fan, so I will just go to a bar and watch sports and have beers while I'm there. Often times that's really my only reasonable way to get out of the house because I can't do too many things alone and that's okay no big deal. When I moved to San Diego alone for example I would surf some and maybe have a couple drinks at a bar but I can't surf here in Florida usually so that just leaves sports bars. Also, I love the taste of beer. I love comparing different kinds and styles and at some point, the buzz I got from beer kind of formed a habit. It was only a real habit for about 5 months, after all I never really started drinking at all until I was 22, but I recognized the need to cut back. I'm afraid of the damage that my habits would do on my liver and other parts of my body so I figure maybe I can just go out a couple of times a week if I can fill some of those other days with a few non-alcoholic beers. I don't consider myself to be dependent on alcohol. I don't feel the need (or want to) drink in the morning, when I'm working, I don't shake when I'm sober, etc... I just love beer, in fact I hate liquor. I only drink beer, and occasionally I drink wine but not very often. No stupid answers about non-alcoholic beer blah blah blah I'm just looking for advice. Do you all think I can drink moderately (or less often) if I just drink NA beer instead the majority of the time? I think I'm mentally tough enough to not crave real beer if I keep drinking NA beer, after all I've moved across the country by myself 3 times alone before I'm even 25. I think I'm strong enough to have control, just seeing what you all think. Oh and by the way I haven't moved around because of family problems or anything like that which might lead me to drink. I asked my grandfather this question. I asked him if alcohol can kill brain cells and he says yes. The we got into a conversation how much alcohol were contain in beer he says there is 3% alcohol contain in beer. So we kept talking and i asked how much was contain like whiskey and vodka. He says those drinks are alot more powerful and says they contain up to 80% of alcohol. I asked him how much was in wine and he says its more but now a whole lot more like vodka. he says only 12% of alcohol is contain in wine. I forgot about these drinks so how mich alcohol is contain in liquor,and booze. let me know if i missed any other alcohol drinks. more

Resolved Question: Is it possible that Tequila can have a different behavioral effect on you than other alcohols?

I understand there is no more alcohol in tequila than any other hard liquor, i'm talking more about the way you act afterwards. I've been drunk many of times in my life but always off beer and occasionaly wine. And each time I'm just laid back and social until I get tired. However, the other night I went way overboard with the margaritas/tequila and eventually got really angry and started a fighting with everyone. Is this coincidence or can it have a different effect? more

Voting Question: Chest hurts REALLY bad after drinking?

After I drink weak drinks like wine coolers, smirnoffs, and others like it, I get these horrible pains in my chest that last from 10-15 minutes. This doesn't happen when I drink beer or hard liquor though, which is why I'm curious. And I'm not a big drinker. more

Resolved Question: what is the drinking age aboard a cruise?

I have heard several thing suchs as you must be 18 for beer/wine but 21 for liquor. Also have heard that once the ship leaves from mexico back to america that the age is 18. Some people you need a waiver signed by a parent. So if anyone can go into more depth in detail on this, Id sure appreciate the official rules and if there is any loopholes =D Thanks more
