Build Wine Cellar Questions asked

Voting Question: Why do you think I am dreaming about this?

A few weeks ago I had a dream about a colleague, and it has left me feeling quite awkward when I am around him. We do talk outside of work, and he has casually suggested we catch up a few times but I have always been busy or did not feel like going. He has always been really supportive of me and looks out for me at work, but I have only ever seen him as a work friend and I am pretty sure that is how he thinks of me too. I am already in a serious relationship, and this dream left me feeling very confused. The dream -I was for some reason going up a slight hill in my car. The road was smooth but somewhat bumpy leading into an unmarked car park. I was having difficulty getting over the bumps, and I was somewhat hidden by the side of the building as I drove up. T was in his friend’s car, and he caught a glimpse of me. I had seen him but was reluctant to say hello. He was smiling and seemed really happy, and he said “Is that you?” I said “Yeah, what are you doing here?” and he said “Just driving around, we were about to go to (somewhere, I can’t remember what he said, but it had something to do with wine as we were in a street with a lot of cellars)” For some reason at this point I was able to drive over the bumps and park my car in the car park. He invited me to go with him somewhere even though he knows I have a boyfriend, and I agreed. Next thing that I remember is that it was nighttime, the stars and the full moon were bright. We were both in the ocean in most of our clothes, and we were kissing. The water was moving but calm. He looked at me lovingly and I felt as though I was falling for him, but I did not say anything. We were then all of a sudden clothed and dry, really happy and laughing, walking up the beach to this bar where a few of his friends were. He said hey to one guy and shook his hand, and I said hi to him too. This guy said hello and looked at me in a strange way with his eyebrows angled down, as to say ‘this is weird’. I felt a bit out of place, as I didn’t know anyone. The bar was quite crowded so he was busy talking to people, and I stood near him by what I think was a fireplace. At some point I turned my head slightly and realised a girl was behind me, and I was standing on her toes. I was terribly apologetic, and moved away from her slightly. By doing this, I had drawn attention to myself and one of T’s friends said ‘who is this clumsy b*tch anyway?’ I was really upset by this and ran out crying. T was yelling out to me to stop and come back, but I just didn’t care. I ran for a long time through a shopping mall, and saw my boyfriend. He was in his work clothes, and was looking around for me. I could not deal with this, so I kept running. I felt like I had been such an idiot, and I had messed up. T had left the bar and was searching for me too. For some reason I knew that he would be repeatedly calling my phone, and my boyfriend had this on him. I could not care less at this point and just sat in a fire exit corridor and cried. What is your interpretation of this dream? more

Resolved Question: what wines to stock as "house"?

I am building a small wine cellar and have four segments - today I am focusing on the "House Wines" segment. I want to have a decent supply of "house wine" - very drinkable, easily approachable wines that will not: 1. embarrass me when served to groups (think drinking wine party, not wine tasting), 2. bore me to death when consumed on a Tuesday night and 3. not break the bank or make me feel guilty for drinking it (on a Tuesday night) - <$15 a bottle is good, less than <$10 is great Any real suggestions appreciated - looking for specific wines, not a list of varieties. Please avoid suggesting jug wines, Yellowtail-esque, wines, Boone farm, etc. - a few wines we like, just as reference: Clos de Siete Montgras Carmenere Tomaresco Neprica Drylands Sav. Blanc (Marlborough) Avalon Cab Nine Mile Shiraz Pascual Toso Malbec Crios Torrontes Thanks to all more

Hello, I am building a wine cellar in my basement and I am trying to look for a good website that can help me make it or give me tips on making it. If any of you have tips please feel free. Resolved Question: Trying to think of the name of this short story...?

Im trying to think of the name of this short story I read in 9th grade its kind of dark and its about two guys at a carnival and one of them wants revenge on the other so he gets him drunk and takes him to a wine cellar that is like underground then he handcuffs him to a dent in the wall and then builds a wall of bricks right in front of him to kill him. Does anyone know what this story is called? I just want to remember the name. thx more

Resolved Question: What's the best way to build a wine collection? A LEGITIMATE wine collection?

Maybe a book would be a decent place to start, but I'm not looking for something like "The Wine Bible". I'm familiar with wine types and wine regions, what to generally look for in a wine, and how to drink it, etc. I would like to learn more about the grapes and growing, etc. And I would really like to test my palate. The most I've spent on a bottle of wine is $60. But really, I want to start building a collection of special wines. I'm not looking for only super fancy wines though. I'm not knowledgeable about picking them out or what I need to store them (I'm assuming a fridge...I don't have a cellar). For example, if I have a 2006 bottle of Panther Creek Pinot Noir, will that peak? If so, how do I know when, etc.? I'd like to know more about when wines peak and how to determine which bottles to buy (i.e. because they are expected to peak) etc. I have the income for this, and the patience. How do I get started? Any references, magazines, suggestions. Of course, I know the golden rule - you have to drink wine to know wine! I've got that one covered :) Thanks. more

Resolved Question: My boss brought his wife to the spring party and I grabbed her meat then he laid a whipping on me. Is this fai?

I mean she was hot. Built real thin but had enough on her to throw it up on me real good. So this is the corporate party and I am the new guy and her husband is like Rip Van Frikken Winkel, so I put the moves on and she rubs her honkers on my arm. So like, I'm thinking, OK, this chick wants it bad and I am here and I can give it to her. So I say, lets go down to the wine cellar, which is not mine, but lets go and check out some chateau le hump. So she comes down like with me, but I am getting some strange look from her friend. So I get down there and I am pulling wood like a frikken Iroquois. So I lay a kiss on her and she is cool, so I pull up her dress and push my pole on her meat. But then husband comes down and catches me with my rod up her meat and then he lays a frikken whoopin on me. So now Im not feeling too good and I want to get back to his house and show him my righteous rage. But I am a civilized man and I hate violence. So I just sit here now pulling my pud and wondering what I should do next. Any ideas? more

I am trying to build up a wine cellar to have available for wining and dining dates/ having dinner guests over. i don't know much about what you would find on a restaurant's wine list, what kind of wines would make experienced wine drinkers turn up their nose, or what wines are decent enough to be socially acceptable and make me not look like a cheap host. Resolved Question: How much is it to build a new home?

Your own home- lets say 1800 Square footage. You want to build it yourself and hire people to help- but not go through a company like pro builder. We want to make the house look like an old house- Victorian style but a modest Victorian. No 20 foot ceiling are anything like that. For this estimate lets say everything is medium standards- we aren't going to install a spa tub or anything or a million dollar wine cellar or import special wood or stone from anywhere. How much roughly would you say this would cost? For Supplies only and permits, lets say we already bought the land cash. 4 bedrooms, 1 living room, Kitchen, dining room, 2 full baths, finished basement and a studio or office space. I in Swedesboro, NJ. How would I start researching it? more

Resolved Question: What is Raining down on the Obama parade?

Ben Smith had this cute little piece out on 16 July of this year on the Raines - Obama connection. An ill-timed -- for Obama -- profile of former Fannie Mae CEO Franklin Raines, forced out in an accounting mess a few years ago. The Style Section piece reports that he's recently been taking "calls from Barack Obama's presidential campaign seeking his advice on mortgage and housing policy matters." Taking calls? Doesn't that mean Obama has been calling him? The McCain Campaign had a nice video out on the connection between Obama and Raines. And there is another video out of Fannie Mae head Daniel Mudd praising Obama. So who is Daniel Mudd? I think it will come as no surprise that he lives in a Mudd hut. A 22-room Mudd hut. Evidently ripping off the taxpayers pays very well. Very well indeed. As more than a million US homeowners face devastating mortgage foreclosures, ousted Fannie Mae CEO Daniel Mudd continues to live in an opulent Washington, DC, mansion replete with expansive gardens, servants' quarters and a home theater. Mudd, whose former company is being bailed out by billions in taxpayer dollars, calls home a 22-room Colonial mansion on Newark Street in tony Cleveland Park, built on the former property of President Grover Cleveland. The eight-bedroom, eight-bath pad includes large public rooms with fireplaces, a home theater, a gym, a wine cellar, a solarium, servants' quarters, a terrace off the master-bedroom suite, and a gourmet kitchen. The gated, landscaped property also features a pool, fountains, gardens and a guesthouse. The property is so lavish that some company employees dubbed it "Mudd Manor." And they're furious that the executive at the helm of the ship as it sank into profound crisis has surfaced relatively unscathed, at least for now. "Hey, he lost his limo and corner suite [at the office], but Mudd Manor is not a bad place to contemplate your next move," said a bitter Fannie Mae employee who requested anonymity. "Most Fannie Mae employees are reeling from their employee stock-option-plan account balances' going to cents on the dollar." So the little people get fleeced and the big guys walk. That Obama has some really swell friends.  more

Resolved Question: George Washington's home unearthed, but how can we find the populist soul of Constitution?

By RANDOLPH E. SCHMID, AP Science Writer 1 hour, 57 minutes ago WASHINGTON - The archaeologists were delighted to at last find the remains of George Washington's boyhood home but got stumped when they looked for evidence of the cherry tree and rusty hatchet. ADVERTISEMENT "This was the setting for many important events in Washington's life," David Muraca, director of archaeology for The George Washington Foundation, announced Wednesday. Most biographies offer little detail of the first president's youth, so the discovery may provide insight into Washington's childhood, he said. The site is located at Ferry Farm, just across the Rappahannock River from Fredericksburg, Va., about 50 miles south of Washington. Philip Levy, associate professor of history at the University of South Florida, found evidence that the house was a one-and-a-half-story residence perched on a bluff overlooking the river. "If George Washington did indeed chop down a cherry tree, as generations of Americans have believed, this is where it happened," said Levy. The researchers said the artifacts they have recovered did not include a hatchet. "There is little actual documentary evidence of Washington's formative years. What we see at this site is the best available window into the setting that nurtured the father of our country," Levy said. Three likely locations were excavated over seven years. The site where the foundations of Washington's home were discovered was built during the first part of the 18th century — Washington was born in 1732 — fit the type of house in which Washington would have lived and also yielded artifacts likely linked to his family. "Now that we have identified the home, we can begin understanding Washington's childhood," Muraca said, as well as dispel some of the folklore surrounding the president's life. For instance, the tale of Washington's chopping down the cherry tree with a hatchet and confessing to his father has never been proven. "We see a county-level gentry home," he said. Washington's father "was wealthy within the county ... not on the colonial level but locally important, and we see a home befitting that status." The house measured about 53-feet by 37-feet, with a central hallway and two rooms on each side of the hallway. The eventual goal, Muraca said, is to rebuild the home as it was in the 1740s. Levy and Muraca spoke at a teleconference organized by the National Geographic Society, which helped fund the work. Research at the location has continued for seven seasons. The 113-acre Ferry Farm — itself a National Historic Landmark — was known as the former home of the Washington family, but previous attempts to locate the house itself had been unsuccessful. Most of the wood from the home was reused by builders on other structures or was damaged in the Civil War, and part of the foundation eroded away, the researchers said. But after digging through layers of dirt the archaeologists found two chimney bases and stone-lined cellars and root cellars. The cellars held a large number of artifacts including pieces of the house's ceilings and painted walls, fragments of 18th century pottery and other ceramics, glass shards, wig curlers and toothbrush handles made of bone. Muraca said they also recovered larger objects such as pieces of a tea set that probably belonged to George's mother, Mary Ball Washington; wine bottles, knives, forks and 10 pieces of a group of small figurines that might have stood on a mantel. They also discovered a well-used pipe bowl, blackened from smoking, that was marked with a Masonic crest. Washington joined the Fredericksburg Lodge of the Masons in 1753. "While we can't say that this was George Washington's pipe, we can wonder about it," Levy said. And there were burned remains of a fire at the farm on Christmas Eve, 1740, which Washington mentioned in letters. During the Civil War the farm served as a staging site for Union soldiers attacking Fredericksburg. Washington was known to swim in the Rappahannock and to take the ferry to Fredericksburg and grew to adulthood at the farm. But he spent less time there as he got older. He eventually moved to his half-brother's estate at Little Hunting Creek, south of Alexandria, Va., later renamed Mount Vernon. In addition to National Geographic, the research is funded by the Commonwealth of Virginia, The Dominion Foundation, the Mary Morton Parsons Foundation and many individuals.Populism is a discourse which supports "the people" versus "the elites".Populistic thought is what prompted Washington to be the first president rather than Hancock. more

Resolved Question: Meaning of colors in a wedding theme? (looking into green and brown, details below)?

Meaning of colors?? My favorite colors are a green (as shown on dress in link) and chocolate brown.. http://faculty.evansville.edu/rl29/art105/img/eyck_wedding.jpg In general I like very "earthy" tones, mossy greens, rusty reds, burnt oranges, saffron golds, etc. What are the meanings of colors, and what do my color preferences "say" about me, if anything? I would like to have an Autumn wedding using these color themes (fall colors, perhaps), or either the linked green in the dress and chocolate brown, or burnt orange and brown with a creme colored dress. I like the idea of a mountain-top wedding, a forest wedding, or a wedding with a backdrop of fall foliage, with a reception following in an old stone building, perhaps a wine cellar (though I don't drink, just for the ambiance), or a log cabin-esque venue. I'm thinking it would be casual, with trail rides, a post-wedding barbecue and a bonfire. I'm hoping costs will be lower "out of season" during the Autumn. Any suggestions? more
