Open Question: Asking people to bring a bottle of wine to Bridal Shower wording.?

I'm throwing a bridal shower for a couple who have been together for many years and both had established households before moving in together. They don't really "need" anything, but they are going to register at Target. For the shower, the bride would like to ask people to bring a bottle of wine instead of a gift. Obviously, not everyone will want to do this or they may want to also buy a separate gift, but how can we word it so people don't feel obligated to do either. Many people are saying it's common to ask people to bring a bottle of wine just like you would bring a bag of diapers to a baby shower, but the bride feels a bit uncomfortable if it comes off like she is asking for both. I am a docent (volunteer teacher) at our Zoo. One of the docents wants to do a special project for an Eco-Planet day in August. She is making usable items (not crafty kids things) out of recyclable items that would otherwise just sit in a landfill - hence the need for non-biodegradable items. She is collecting old clothing, woolen items, glass, tin, plastic, anything she can find and trying to make usable items out of them. They are salvaging wool from old wool sweaters, blankets, etc. She is using dryer lint also. I've been saving dog fur for her and she is going to use it. I have some dog fur gloves that someone brought me from Alaska where this lady has a whole business making scarves, gloves, etc. from her huskies fur. So far she has made tote bags and baskets out of newspapers and plastic bags. I swear you would not know what they were made out of unless you asked her. Lamps out of wine bottles. Change purses out of Whisker Lickins cat treat bags. Grocery store bags (we can buy them here in the grocery stores and you bring them back with you for your groceries over using plastic bags) made from the animal feed bags - monkey chow, etc. She will have 50 tables set up all over the zoo with the raw material, the half finished product and then the finished one set up for the adults to see. Such as paper making, glass tumbling.... Any workable ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. more

Open Question: Removing colour from sofa covers - with bleach?

I have these horrid terracotta coloured sofa covers. They are horrid because our carpet is wine red - so they don't go! They are unused - so are the 'spare' set...but our current set has seen the last of its days. I am hoping to save money and not have to buy a new sofa - but just make sure that these sofa covers are a better colour than they currently are! Dylon pre-dye - which is for removing colour seems to work okay. But it hasn't removed enough for me to feel that it is okay to then dye them - I am going for beige. As the carpet is already dark, I do not feel that dark sofa covers will work. So - I was wondering if I could further use bleach for these covers (they are cotton) and how much I would need to use in the washing machine for them to do the job. They don't need to be white - just a bit lighter than they are! They are sorta a darker buttercream once the pre-dye has been used. Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated! - TIA more

first of all thats cute but for the movies make sure u go at a time when a lot of movies will be playing around that time. You don't want to wait for a while to see a movie lol. The other date sounds so romantic. You can either make food or buy some things. If its at night, maybe get dinner in case she didn't eat or something. Open Question: How do you make fluted glasses out of polymer clay?

I'm working on making a themed dining set which includes a set of six fluted stem glasses. I'm not entirely sure how to do this though, and so far I've not been able to find a good tutorial on how to make any fluted glasses or glasses with stems (like wine glasses or goblets). I'm going to be using a polymer clay to make these, and they're going to be 1:12 scale. Unfortunately cannot buy them off a site because these are supposed to be made off of designs I was given to work with.To answer a few questions: By fluted I mean that the stem is a flat trumpet shape, like the base of a wineglass, and the top of the glass radiates out like a flower. I have an idea of how to make it at least translucent enough to see tinted resin or liquid clay inside of it though. Sounds like a random question, but last night I went out and spent £50 on drinks =(. Voting Question: Aged bottle of Johnnie Walker Black Label?

I was cleaning out my uncle's run down old house which he's selling, and inside a old chest I found a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black Label, still inside it's box (box open, bottle still sealed). I read the Label and the bottle was bought in 2000 in addition to it's already aged 12 years which read on the bottle (when it was bottled). So that makes this whiskey 22 years old! (12 years in Barrel, 10 years in a Boxed Bottle). Does the age in bottle contribute in any way to it's age in barrel? Does this make the bottle a bit special that I shouldn't open it? I wanted to try it but I have a nick for keeping things in my cupboard to age.. (I have a bottle of wine from Spain that is 28 years old)....but if bottle age is nothing big, should I go ahead and try some? Or should it be a bottle for a special occasion? Resolved Question: My husband spent part of our rent money....?

We are waiting for our rent check to clear from his account, I deposited my share to his account a week ago and we have just enough money to clear the check. We went out to the movies the other night, in which I paid for it out of my personal account strictly because we don't want to touch the checking account which is being used for to pay rent that we are waiting to clear. Everything was fine, then after the movies he left and decided he wanted to go party with his friends and play poker. We got into an argument about this, as I was not happy that he wanted to leave me to party with his friends... none the less, I checked the bank account the next day and noticed he had spent about $100 from the checking account. This money was to pay rent, and we didn't have an extra $100 in there for him to spend. I asked what the heck he is spending that money on, apparently he bought wine, cigs and got cash back for poker. This absolutely pissed me off - he used our money to live on to buy alcohol and gamble. Now our check could bounce simply because he decided his poker night was more important... not to mention, he made me pay for the movies and food earlier that night. So he spent $0 on our night out, and $100 of our rent money on himself. Do I have a right to be pissed off? he invites you and your best friend on vacation...took us to the best places...bought me and my mom lots of clothes etc...the story is, is that he was fighting for my love for 1 year...always flying to me, buying me presents, asking me to marry him..and i was always putting it off because i wasn't sure. I'm 29 and 1/2 and I f'ing don't LIKE IT. I don't LIKE not being in my early 20's anymore. I don't like that I live in the f'ing hood because I'm poor and I never finished college. It took me 9 GOD**** MONTHS to find a job down here in L.A., I blew through all my savings and some of my poor, loving parents money (who are nearly in their 70's!...) just trying to survive, and trying to escape from my problems playing god**** video games and drinking. I can stop drinking for about 2 days max, then I have to get some wine or something. I'm overweight, I have a gym membership but I can't make myself go for more than a couple days in a row at a time. I f'ing hate myself, and I miss who I used to be. I got laid all the time, I had friends, my car worked fine, I had a good job, I f'ing just hate the world right now. I've had suicidal thoughts, and even thoughts about those who have wronged me or hurt me emotionally. Like if I'm going down I'm taking them with me kind of thing (only thoughts, don't freak out). The world isn't fair and I f'ing know that. I've always known it. I grew up poor, I had a good education, loving parents, but I think during my whole early life everyone looked at me like I had such promise, and now I can't stand to see the look in my mother's eyes when I tell her I'm quitting my job or I'm moving again, or my GF and I broke up, or .. so many things. So many things are wrong right now. I just want to cry. What the F is the point of life? What THE F IS THE POINT???!!! To have kids, to have a family, so you can spend the rest of your life raising them so they can have a chance at maybe possibly making it in a greedy, cruel, unfair F'd up corrupt world? Or to just live and not have kids? So you just do what you want for the rest of your days and then die and that's it? We all know this is it, we ALL know, deep down, that religion is BULL****! Even the most religious know it deep down in their mind, but they think with their heart, because they're so freaked out by the concept that we all die and we're just animals, and after we die that's F'ING IT. No heaven, No hell, No God, No afterlife, No reuniting with loved ones, IT'S BULL**** people and you F'ing know it. But I guess the question is, is it better to know that and live your days knowing that? Or better to fool yourself into buying the whole idea, and then if it is a lie, who the f cares? Cause you'll be dead anyway, so...maybe they've got the right idea after all! Resolved Question: tips for tasty paella?

I made paella for the first time last week. It turned out ok, but lacked a... certain something. I used paella rice, onions, garlic, olive oil, red peppers, chopped chicken fillet, chicken stock (from a cube), white wine, then some frozen fruits-de-mer (squid, mussels, tiger prawns and scallops), and I threw in a splash of Thai fish sauce for good measure. Maybe I should have marinated the chicken? But other than that, I cant think why it didn't taste as nice as even the commercial paella's I sometimes buy. I guess a home made chicken stock might help too, but I used Knorr chicken cubes, which are usually pretty tasty. Thanks for any advice.Oh, almost forgot. I used Chorizo too, and fried it with the chicken and onions to bring out those spices.. more

i was with my ex boyfriend for about a year, and it was more lust than love, we would tease each other and our conversations inolved a lot of banter, i had trust issues with him and he cheated on me too, which upset me so bad! anyway its been a while since we split up and a few months ago i got with my current boyfriend, who treats me like a princess, buys me so much and wine and dines me all the time, but the thing is i have been meeting up with my ex for about a month and a bit, just chatting and that but it always leads to sex..its so bad and would upset my boyfriend so much if he found out! but my ex means absolutely nothing to me and neither does the sex, why do i feel the need to do this to someone..is there anyone with advice or anyone who can relate to my situation with experience who can encourage me not to do this! more

My dad is always putting my mom down in front of me and my brother, about every single thing she does. -Anything she buys he checks the online account to figure out what it was -Yells at her in public places because she isn't "doing something right" -says she doesnt do the dumbest things right, like she "doesnt know how to load a dishwasher" -gets mad whenever she has a couple glasses of wine, or one beer and says she acts like she is two years old -treats her like a kid even though shes a full grown adult (FYI my mom works at the hospital at nights, so her schedule is hectic and sleeping patterns way off) Im on my moms side in that something needs to be done for him to stop doing stuff like this, degrading her and treating her like a kid. what should I/she/he do?? because im sick and tired of hearing my dad constantly b***h!!!! more

Voting Question: Why has my Frangipani stopped growing?

I have two Frangipanis that i bought as cuttings off ebay about 3 years ago. For the first 2 years they grew really well, but then we bought our house and transplanted them into half wine barrels and put them in a sunny position against our shed. One has continued to grow well, although not flowered yet, but the other has just stopped. We transplanted them in winter while they were dormant and in spring it started to produce new shoots but they never grew more than about 1 1/2cms. In autumn one of the leaves started to open and gave me some hope but then all the shoots dropped off. The same thing has happened this season... new shoots that just don't become anything! Its a gorgeous tri colour and i'm just dying to see it flower! We live in South Australia, just out of adelaide...there are a couple of large Frangipani trees next door that are doing very well. I really hope someone can help! more

I understand inviting the ex husband with his wife for special occasions since my wife and her ex do share a daughter together who is now 24 and with her own child. What i don't understand is inviting her ex lover with his wife and kids, her random ex boyfriends with their girlfriends...they are all nice people and all...but I really do not feel comfortable sitting at a table full of people who f***** my wife. Am I being unreasonable? she IS a very charismatic and beautiful woman but sometimes I feel like she doesn't understand me. I told her how I feel about this and she just says, "Michael, please you're giving me a headache" Please somebody offer me advice on how to approach this another way? ps...we were also on holiday all together (she invited all of them with my money by the way!) and her ex lover was hugging my wfe from behind (his wife was present) and saying, "you know how much i love you" i understand this is all innocent and she likes being this mother teresa and 'leader" of the pack...but frankly I'm getting sick of it. *It seems like she doesn't take me seriously...she either tells me to be quiet, rolls her eyes, talks very quietly and calmly and I am angry, sighs. I bought her a car, apartment, and she had an affair with my chauffer! so now the chauffer lives with my wife's daughter and whenever I need to be picked up...I have to wait until the daughter let's him go....I put up with so much and this is what I get in return? *another thing that really annoys me is when everyone gets a little tipsy (from wine) her ex husband starts telling everyone how madly in love they were in college and the passion they had...that they were each other's firsts.... *by the way...i bought MY ex wife (we share a son together) a new car and my wife went crazy on me over it....but when she does random things it's okay. *Apart from that she is a great wife....don't get me wrong...always keeping everything in a very neat condition, running the household, very good cook, takes care of her wifely duties...but the guest issue is just way over my head. (For those of you who say invite your ex wife along I would and my wife tells me to but my ex wife says, "no thanks" lol " I started seeing my current wife when i was still married with my ex and she was pregnant with our son so she still didn't let go of those hurt feelings) On those "gathering" I just flirt with my wife's friend's daughter when she brings her along...she's 22 and cute as a button. oh and to add to that...I support my wife's dad financially who lives in Cuba and has a whole different family which is broke. I basically support half of Cuba since their family is so huge. (I wouldn't mind this at all...if my wife didn't show me how much she appreciates things that are done for her) And I tried controlling her spending (I don't mind if she spents money because I do earn quite a lot...but she comes home from boutiques very frequently with almost half of the clothes in the store! she hides the checks and everything...an I fought with her OVER and OVER again. A couple of times i have lost my cool and pushed/shoved her onto the couch and spanked her...he calms down and then starts acting like her old self again... but when he had our little angel daughter I let things slide...I do give up...we have a child together anyway more
