Open Question: What causes my wifes terrible breath odor?

Any biochemists out there that might explain this. My wife is Asian and has that enzyme deficiency that causes her to turn beet red after drinking wine. Ac0cording to what I have read online, the enzyme deficiency actually causes an excess buildup of acetaldehyde in her system. Now when she eats raw garlic on foods at meals where she also drinks wine, soon afterward she develops a terrible breath odor, much worse than just plain garlic breath (this is even after brushing her teeth and using a mouthwash). I read that acetaldehyde is a powerful bonding agent for sulfur dioxide. Since garlic contains allicin which is a sulfur compound, I think when she digests the garlic, the sulfur dioxide that is produced in her stomach chemically bonds with the acetaldehyde which the body attempts to eliminate through the lungs, kidneys and skin. Hence when she breathes, the air around her is filled with the sulfur dioxide bonded with the acetaldehyde producing this odor similar to rotten eggs. Does this seem like a reasonable hypothesis for her apparent bad breath? I'm not a scientist so this scenario is what I pieced together by researching how garlic gets it smell and the enzyme condition my wife has. But I'd like to have some expert advice on this. more

Resolved Question: Are there any effective herbal alternatives to drinking wine at night?

I am a single mom and full-time employee and FT student. I am in the habit of drinking 3 glasses of wine at night (never any more than that because then I feel it the next day-not good for all that I have to do everyday). The nightly wine helps me de-stress/unwind while still getting stuff done at night that needs to get done (making lunches, prepping for the next day, school assignments, etc..). I literally do not have time by the end of the day to exercise, meditate, or even take a long bubble bath. The wine is my excuse to do something for ME, while still taking care of business and being able to fall asleep quickly when I am all done. I have tried sleeping pills and melatonin-both make my heart race. I have valerian and it works a little but not as effective as wine. I would stick with the wine but I've put on a bit of weight and I am pretty health conscious. I know the daily wine cannot be good for my liver and has become a bad habit. Does anyone know of something else legal that I can pick up from Whole Foods or online that will relax me like wine? Thanks more

He is in his mid 40's and never married and I am in my late 30's and just haven't settled. I wonder why he never married, and he said he likes being alone but not forever and just never got married yet. He just had a 7month relationship and was talking about her alot- she left him. So red flag - he is not over her?We had a nice time and closed down the place. Resolved Question: How do I explain to my parents that I want surgery?

Okay so I have a "Port Wine Stain" birthmark. I'm 15 years old by the way. I have done some research online and have seen that there is a laser treatment procedure that you can go through to remove or just lighten the birthmark. I want my birthmark to be removed. I have tried to remove naturally by using the lemon juice to lighten it thing, i have done all that. It wont go away. Plus, I don't remember having this birthmark so big. I remember having it as a little kid but it didn't bother me because it wasn't as noticeable but now it seems more noticeable. So I want to tell my parents that I want it removed. I don't know what they'll say though. My mom said that I have it because God made me like this and he marked me for a reason, but if I say I want it off...you know I don't want to hurt her feelings about the whole thing. She's a strong Catholic. I just want it off and I don't know how they'll react to this. My self esteem is not the best because of this. ughh. more

I am so fed up with Dating. The men I am attracted to tend to fall on the HOT good looking side, with that tend do be a little arrogant. I met this nice, very handsome man online. Having been to the Amoeba Records in San Francisco and Los Angeles and been amazed by the selection of vinyl LPs available, I was wondering whether the UK has any record shops that even come close to these two stores. I live in Manchester and Vinyl Exchange appears to be the best the North West has to offer. I'm interested in most genres of music, but I'm not interested in stores focused on Rap/Hip-Hop, Dance or House. Some of the stuff I'm interested in buying; Journey, The Clash, Audioslave, Iron & Wine, Death Cab for Cutie, The Cure, Interpol To name but a few. I know a lot of these LPS are available on vinyl online, but there's nothing like a good record shop in my opinion! Having said that, any online stores (obviously other than ebay and amazon) would be welcome too Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Stemless crystal win glasses with rounded base? Can't find any?

A few years ago a friend of mine had these crystal stemless red wine glasses with rounded, not flat, bases. They were large enough and weighted with a mass of crystal in the bottom center so that they would not spill if set down, just rolled around a little. Unfortunately she doesn't have them anymore and can't help. I saw them a Macys a while back so i know they can be had commercially, but now I don't live near one and can't find them at their website, or by googling this characteristic. I don't know maybe there is a specific term i'm missing here? I've come across a number that really look like theyre rounded on the bottom but the descriptions always mention flat base... Anybody know what this style is called, or can point me to a reputable online crystal merchant that has them? more

Ok, so I have a question, cause I'm confused. I have a son in recovery and i have been in al-anon for a couple of years, but it has always been in the back of my mind that i might be an alcoholic. I can say for sure that in my past, I would binge drink; my goal was to get drunk, not just to "enjoy" the evening. I could never be a designated driver (because thats not fair that I can't drink). when I get to drinking, i don't know when to stop - 12-16 drinks and shots.....I always had to have 2 drinks on the table whenever i drank, and I would get really annoyed when i ran out. Bourbon and tequila shot on the side. No beer and I could drink a whole bottle of wine without a problem. I would drink till i was stumbling, and throwing up. I had 1 blackout and don't ever remember passing out....I never had any consequences; no jail, never lost a job becasue of my drinking, no dui's (although sad to admit that I should have), no relationship problems because of my drinking. and I was never a daily drinker and rarely drank at home by myself. But here's where i get confused.....I wonder if I could be a periodic; i have drank 3 times in the last 16 mos. two times i only had 1 drink and the other time i had 4. i Also, I am in a relationship with a recovering alcoholic (we live together) Because my son is in recovery, I "stopped" drinking, no liquor in the house at all, but I would go out and drink, what i thought was socially, at times. So I've taken those online alcohol tests and they have all come back saying.....your drinking patterns can be considered risky or harmful..... I attend AA speaker meetings weekly and weekly Al-anon meetings as well. I feel more comfortablw in the rooms of AA; don't know if Its because of the fellowship is different from my Al-anon home group or not. I am a child of an alcoholic and my mother was an alcoholic/addict. It wouldn't surprise me if I am an alcoholic, i guess I'm just confused because I really haven't drank over the last 16 months....i wonder if I'm just in denial.... Voting Question: How can my slight quirk affect my judgement when I hold public office someday?

I have an engineering (chemical) degree and a degree in business administration and currently I am halfway through earning a degree in political science (all tuition fees paid by my father a.k.a sperm donor). I speak English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic and Indonesian. I have a black belt in Karate and I am knowledgeable in all sorts of weapons from every era (killing and torture instruments always fascinate me). I am good looking, well educated and I come from a respectable family. I am charming, polite and witty. My peers and superiors are fond of me while my inferiors fear me. I don't believe in God, I feel no guilt, and I have no shame. I manipulate, I mislead and I intimidate. I abide by the law but ethics is nothing but a joke to me; ethics in my dictionary is a self imposed limitation that prevents me from reaching my true potential. I am power hungry and my friends are all greedy pigs born into money whose only purpose in life is to eat, sleep, sh!t and fvck at the expense of those who are less privilidge. I also have a few eccentric friends in the lunatic asylumn whom I visit when I need advice. I have no respect for women; I treat them as sex objects. I enjoy blood, gore and anything gruesome or morbid. I love violence particularly violence just for the sake of violence. I enjoy conflict and other people's pain. Other people's misery puts a smile to my face. I love anything related to war, diseases, death and famine. One of my pipe dreams is to have my own version of the 10 Plagues... :-) On friday afternoons I use online escort services and try to get a date; preferably a woman who looks like my ex. I would then fvck her like there is tomorrow and then when she has fallen asleep I sneak out and shoot small animals with my crossbow. I spend saturday nights drinking a whole bottle of white wine (Sauvignon Blanc) while browsing through photo albums containing pictures of me and my ex (the only woman I can not have) and indulge in psychological self torture while masturbating with an electric cable around my neck. I never allow myself to cvm because that would make me cry and cying is a symbol of weakness. I have messed up relationship with my mother and my sister hates me because I have enough dirt on her to make my father cut her out of the will. My brother left civilization and is now living as a hermit. My younger sister is well protected and grew up sheltered by both my parents. They keep hoping that their youngest child will not be a disappointment to them. Now I have political aspirations and I am thinking of running for public office (hopefully be president someday). I am thinking that maybe a distraction in the form of public service may spare me from my own misery. Or maybe this might even be a healthy release of my psychological inadequacy and deep seated disturbances that stems all the way down to unresolved issues that came early into my childhood. Your thoughts please.... Oh by the way, please don't tell me to get help; my father tried 'getting me help' before; popping prozac in a padded cell is just not my favorite thing to do. He threatened me with jail time (chief of police was his classmate) if I don't act normal and that pretty much 'cured' me already. Just so that you know. Resolved Question: MYSQL beginner...can someone help??!?

So I'm doing this project for a class of mine, which is to create an online database. It has to have interaction from signed up users so I decided to create a "wish list" of sorts. My database is kind of like this so far: WINERY TABLE winery_id (primary) winery name location WINE TABLE wine_id (primary) wine name vintage price winery_id(foreign from WINERY TABLE) USER TABLE user_id(primary) first_name last_name email password ---- Now when I get to make a table for the list, I get all confused with what I want to do. I want each user to have one list (for the sake of time). I want them to name it and have the ability to add the wine's name and prioritize it from a scale of 1 to 5. What I though of so far was to just have them add it to a unorganized table then use SQL to organize it by user, but I can already see the problem with that. Another method I thought of was to have another database for the site to connect to and to create a table for each user. I have no clue how to do that. What my list table looks like now: list_id(primary) list name wine_id (foreign from WINE TABLE) priority email (hidden and foreign from USER TABLE) user_id (foreign from USER TABLE) (to see which user it is for the wine added) TLDR version: I can't figure out the last table I need.Help. I'm SO sorry to post on here but I'm feeling quite confused right now and for reasons I can't go into I can't really tell my friends about this. I'm a single mum and have 2 boys and I left my ex nearly 2 years ago. So far this year I saw one man who was obsessed but then turned nasty and was a voilent drunk. So I left him. No regrets = goodby psycho! Then I met toyboy walking down the street. He was gorgeous and I saw him for a few m onths, in these months I've never been spoilt so much I had wine flowers chocolates got took out, swept off my feet, but had to end it as he was 10 years younger and wanted loads of kids. To which I have to say I still regret this decision as I adored him to the bone and he was such a lovely guy. I miss him. I tried to get back with him as he did me but it was too late by this stage. (he had split 5 weeks before from his nasty ex, so I said he needed space which I think he did) I'm now seeing someone who I got set up with from a blind date. We hit it off from the start, but he's not my "usual" type (muscly good looking lol) but I don't mind that. Now he is a nice guy, I'm not sure if I am that into him, I'm quite loud and wacky and love a laugh. On the down side he doesn't offer (ever to pay for me) to take me out not that I'm bothered cos like Beyonce I'm an independent woman (he is wealthy apparently) but isn't that part of romance to be whisked away?? He stops over here a few times a week, I get a babysitter we go out and as couples as part of the group..We get on very well and have never had a crossed word and although I think he likes me, as I do him, he never compliments me (ever).or says I look nice. Which isn't that part of being someone? I compliment him? he hasn't got kids and I think mine scare me off. He was supposed to come round last night but I changed my mind as the kids had been up since 5am and I was knackered. Plus this confusion going round. He is lovely, yet so quiet, in fact I'm thinking maybe TOO quiet??? Now I don't know if I am pushing someone nice away because I feel like this. I can't discuss feelings or where this is going because he's so laidback he'd drop off a cliff given half the chance. Plus I am scared! I even gave up my memberships to online dating sites I'd gone onto as I'd met him now I'm thinking why do I bother? Hope I don't sound like a moaning cow, or in fact a slapper. All I'd like is a man who adores me and vice versa and gives me some romance. And also adores my kids. Is this TOO MUCH to ask? Do all men use single mums as booty calls? I am so not going to be anyone's booty call, and I don't think I am to this guy but I am not a mind reader so don't know what to think. For now, I'm busy pushing myself in my career, have lots of plans and am very busy. So I think throwing myself into my work is the best thing to do. ALSO one big thing to mention; when my friend set me up she wasn't sure about introducing us as she said he has a problem with commitment. I said don't bother then...and now I am here questioning it? This my first year cooking a Kosher thanksgiving turkey. It is by Empire kosher and has already been through the kosher saltening (brining) stage. My question is, when the turkey is done cooking will the skin be flavorful as well as the inside? Should I add any seasoning to the skin before cooking it? Ok my girlfriend and i live in seperate states for a brief period of time. Work issues. Well Im in town visiting my girlfriend right now for the week. She only has 3 days off a week. Last night i didnt sleep to good, so after breakfest i laid back down to take a nap around 1130am. About noon she woke me and said she was going to a wine tasting thing, and would be home around 2pm. So she takes the only car we have , and leaves. Her kids come in from school around 3pm. She doesnt come back home untill 930 pm. And shes' trashed. I have to leave town tommorow for a few weeks. Alright! So, I have been talking to this guy online on FB now for a month or so, I went to grade school with him. I also haven't seen him in 15 years. I have two children, am divorced, and he has a daughter and is single. He asked me out this last week, and came over to my house Friday night. Resolved Question: does panadol overdoses take a few days for effect?

i took 12 panadol tablets last night in one shot, and i drink a whole bottle of wine immediately after. the box says take 3-4 tablets in one hour, and no more than 8 in 24 hours. so i didn't exceed the limit by too much. i passed for about 30mins, but after i got back up, i didnt sleep the whole night, i felt nauseous and i have no appetite. i vomited twice and i got thirsty like every 2 minutes. i felt extremely giddy half way through the night but im fine now, but im having this pain in my stomach. im not sure if i overdosed. but i read online that panadol overdoses takes a few days to damage the liver and the person will ultimately die after a few days. is this true. should i go see a doctor. more

So I was interested in knowing how many women on here have indulged in a glass or two of wine while pregnant in their third trimester? I am 30 weeks pregnant and am not by any means an alcoholic. I actually have an agreement with my husband that we only drink on special occasions. I have not drank since I found out I was pregnant because I have been scared to. Im a bartended and Im feeling like I am being lied to by Bacardi and Grey Goose. They both claim to have ZERO calories.... Bacardi even advertises that. I recently met a really lovely french (permanent resident) guy online. He has contacted me from the beginning and shown the interest. We met for coffee the first time, and within the first half hour he told me he would like to meet up again, but that he was going to visit family in France in one weeks time for 3 weeks, and could we meet up before he left. so i found this diet online: http://www.nowloss.com/lose-weight-fast.htm and basically it says to eat 2 servings of raw fruits/veggies and 1 scoop of soy protein before every meal and then only have like 200 calorie meals and stuff. so my diet would look something like this: upon waking: 16 oz ice cold water breakfast: 8 strawberries, 1 banana, 1 scoop soy protein snack: red bell pepper, 1 stalk celery, 1 tbsp hummus lunch: baby carrots, 1 apple, 1 scoop soy protein...and then salad: 1 Cup spinach, 1/2 Cup romaine, 1/4 Cup cucumber and 1/2 Cup chickpeas with 1/2 Tbsp olive oil and 1 Tbsp red wine vinegar afternoon snack: 1/2 cup blackberries, 1/2 cup raspberries dinner: 1 orange, 1 Cup watermelon, 1 scoop soy protein and then... 1/2 cup boca "ground beef", 1/2 cup black beans and 1/4 cup tomatoes and chiles over 1 1/2 Cups spinach i'll also be drinking at least 64 oz of ice water every day...and taking a multivitamin and a b12 supplement. as far as workouts go, i'll work out in the morning before i eat anything. i'll do this workout dvd that i got called "45 minute cardio" or something like that. its put out by Elle magazine. i'll also be walking around 3 miles each day. when i get home from vacation (about 2 weeks before school starts) i'll have access to a treadmill, elliptical, bowflex, free weights, etc. so i'll be using those for an hour or two every day. and i'll also have band camp for 8 hours a day, so it'll be like 6 hours or so of marching in the heat. as of now, i'm 16 years old, 5'2'' and 145 pounds. my bmi is 26.5, which is considered overweight. i'd like to get to around 120 pounds so my bmi would be about 22. so yeah, if i did all that, how much weight would i lose before september 1st?? thanks in advance. y'all are loved oh and if it helps, that all adds up to: 1,013 calories 14g fat 171g carbs 46g fiber 75g protein more

Turns out he had met yet another girl and she wanted to go on a date that night and i became an inconvenience. i spent the weekend alone in a hotel room with no food since i had to spend all my money on an airport hotel. as if that wasnt bad enough i found out he was in NYC a week before i had come to NYC which is 3.5 hrs away from me just to have drinks with his buddies but he failed to let me know he was in the area because it was more funny for me to spend the money for a flight to NC. he knows im sensitive about losing the baby but he has never comforted me since even though he claims to love me. he makes me so upset by always talking about himself and never listening to me or talking to me unless he needs someone to vent to. he keeps his facebook private and all of his online info. after four years of it i finally panicked and started shaking from anxiety and anger and i just wanted to scream and get it all out. i cut my wrist which ive never done before because i felt like i needed to get the pain and hurt out somehow. he found out and told me he thinks im pathetic and attention hungry and that he doesnt care and that people are just going to look at me with disgust like im crazy. he told me hes never gona be with me after my stunt that i pulled. ive been hurt so bad over the past four years that i finally broke and nothing hurts worse than knowing that he doesnt care that im hurting and thinks im pathetic... any advice about this situation would be greatly appreciated. thanks so much more
