Resolved Question: How can I write a convincing finance resume where my experience looks mixed (but isn't)?

I left college for financial reasons many years ago and do not have a degree. I have overseen staffs of college grads, have been a coach and mentor to many, and am more well versed in business than the vast majority of graduates. I am currently working on my accounting degree, but will need to find work before I finish school. I have 7 years of international trade experience, including 5 in management that I do not include on my resume because it is old. I am 40 and looking for work in banking or finance. Current resume information: 1.Director of Operations / General Manager -- I managed a division of a co. for 1.5 years. Started as a temporary clerical position. I salvaged a major account by negotiating a compromise with an irate salesperson and the client. I began doing accounting and found systematic cheating by a large client. The financial materials I prepared to address this resulted in prompt payment of $200,000+. I then took over a failing division of the company and within 7 months the division was profitable. It was sold to someone with an MBA and extensive industry experience and within 6 months the company was bankrupt. The parent company was part of the dot com crash of 2000 and I was again looking for work. 2.Accounting (interim position for an insurance company). Spent a year there before, an urgent personal matter forced me to move on short notice (family related). The president of the insurance division gave me a glowing review and dozens of contacts where I would be moving including members of her family. 3.Wine Distributor, 14 months. Interim position taken immediately after arriving in my hometown. I worked independently for a company several hundred miles away, and reintroduced the company and its brands to this smaller local market with great success. 4.Finance / Credit Analysis / VP I was invivted to join a finance company (commercial leasing / lending). I became an officer of the company and built a significant clientele from scratch and generated the majority of the company's revenue. I was there 6 years before market conditions soured and all staff other than the president and a part-time CPA were cut. I am having trouble writing a resume that adequately conveys my accounting, business development, and management background. I am also having difficulty getting responses to my applications. Advice? more

Resolved Question: Where can I find Centerba Toro to be shipped or purchased near Chicago?

I am looking for a unique liquor from the Abruzzo region of Italy. Its name, Centerba, means "hundreds of herbs". I have been looking for distributors, emailed a producer (http://centerbatoro.it) in Italy and several distributors abroad but they don't seem to be willing to ship to the United States, either because they can't or they just don't want the headache. Illinois is one of the few states that does allow the delivery of Wine but I don't know if that legislation also includes higher content liquors. If anyone does have information on this product and a location to purchase it around Chicago or a distributor that can ship it I would really appreciate it. more

Resolved Question: How do you buy alcohol direct from manufacturer?

I am living in Wisconsin and about to open my own cigar shop. Besides cigars we're also going to be selling exotic and microbrew beers (bottles, not tap), nice wine, and hopefully some rums, scotches, and cognacs. Although I know where to get all the cigars from, I have no idea where to get the alcohol. I have relationships with cigar distributors, but don't know how to get ahold of those wine/beer distributors. Anyone know how this is done? I'd like to get these drinks at vendor prices so I can price them fairly. Thanks for the great advice and links so far. I am already planning on getting a liquor license, so that is in the works. The cigar industry has a lot of 'Cigar Reps' who work for the cigar companies. You order all your cigars/products through them. I'm wondering if there are alcohol reps also, and how you find them. more

Resolved Question: How do you get people in lower class inner city areas to try wine?

If you had a store in a lower class income area, with a demographic that drinks a lot of Brandy. Considering Brandy is made from grapes, how would you get these guys to try wine as opposed to liquor? The owner will not open up a bottle to allow customers to taste. Salesmen from our distributors put up shelf talkers and point of sale, and even a sign in the window. Any ideas on how I can get some customers in the store to give up liquor and try something new? more

Resolved Question: Cocktail waitress in Atlanta (at gentleman's club)?

I'm a 25 year old attractive female that works in the Wine & Spirits industry (for a distributor - in Marketing). I recently moved to Atlanta and I'm interested in working a couple of a days/nights a week as a cocktail waitress at a strip club. I used to be a server at a restaurant and have "waitress" experience. Strip clubs don't freak me out because my best friend is a dancer (in NY, not Atlanta). I have a great personality and a great knowledge of alcoholic drinks, etc. I guess I'm just writing to see what clubs I should goto to inquire about cocktail waitress positions. Like I said, I'm new to Atlanta..and don't know the area well. I don't want to make contacts thru my corporate job.. plus, I haven't been here long enough to have established many. I'm a black and hispanic female so would prefer ethnic clubs... but safe, clean, and popular with those that make $$. Any suggestions?!? Thanks!! more

Resolved Question: Why do they say that marijuana can't be taxed?

I've often heard the claim that the main reason the government doesn't want to legalize marijuana is because there's no way to tax it. How is that true? We have a booming liquor industry in this country, even though people can easily make their own beer and wine at home using supermarket ingredients (and with a little more effort, anybody can build a still). All it takes is fruit, honey, sugar, malt, yeast, etc. and some simple homemade equipment. But even though people can legally manufacture their own alcohol, it's simply easier to buy it from a commercial distributor. Wouldn't it be the same with weed? Granted, even if it's legalized I'm sure a few diehards would still grow their own, but most users would be far more likely to buy it from a licensed store which purchases its product from a domestic farmer who submits to government inspections and pays taxes, no? Mind you, I never actually tried any Mary Jane myself, but I do make my own beer and wine at home and wonder why it's treated so differently under the law. more

Resolved Question: Where to buy Allegrini Chianti?

Am trying to buy a few bottles of Allegrini Chianti. I called my local wine specialty shop, and she said their distributor carries every Allegrini but the chianti. She didn't know why, but said that often means it was produced in limited quantities or discontinued. I have an email in to the Allegrini company, but due to language issues I'm not sure I'll get a reply. Anyone know what's up or where I can buy it? more

Resolved Question: I need a name for our Business, and a slogan

The business is a website and professional consulting services for the food and beverage industry. The website is a portal type that is intended to connect everyone from suppliers (wine growers, farmer, pasta maker etc) to on trade distributors and customers such like restaurants, hotels, etc. Our consultants are available to map and reengineering business process, create a technological infrastructure for the information exchange, create a legal infrastructure for the sale process, implement other services such like CRM or accounting. The name should reflect the integratration the Food & Beverage Supply chain process. I've been coming up with names like: Ambrosia Consulting Grape Vine Solutions Savory Technical Services Grape Vine Network Consulting Ambrosia Architecture Services Culinary Matrix Solutions Culinary Market Integration Culinary Interlink Management Linkedin Culinary Management Cullinary Connections Interlink But I am being told that "Culinary Interlink Market" and the other names sound nice but are probably too long (not immediate and difficult to remeber) it would be better to put all in a word.... may be missing some calrity something like: Culinarylink My other concern now is to incorporate the concept of wine food and beverage not just food. The word culinary is more related to food. So Perhaps Epicure is a good word then, it is not limited to food and has good resonance among a particular class of aficionado of food and drink. Let me try out a few more on you: Epicure Colaboration = Epicurlaboration (may be difficult to remember) Interlinked Epicures Epilink Integrated Epicurean Integrated Vines Epicurean Harvest I cant seem to find a word that is inclusive of everyone from growers to suppliers and buyers. Epicurean is about as close as I can get. Another thing that comes to mind is that much can be inferred with the logo that will accompany the company name. So the name may not need to bear the entire burden of conveying the depth of the services offered. Your thoughts? help? more

Resolved Question: I was told that there is a three tiered system when it comes to wine sales. Vineyards ->Distributor-> retail

I was told that there is a three tiered system when it comes to wine sales. Vineyards -->Distributor --> retailer. Yet other entities have had starter monies from vineyards. How can a vineyard fund a retail establishment legally? I have my own opinion. what if a holding corp holds the retail establishment (retail establishment sells wines) The vineyards loan the monies to the holding corp. Holding corp funds retail establishment. Retail buys wines from vineyards and profits go to holding corp. Holding corp pays back loan to vineyards. I hope this make a little sense, it sounds sound in my mind. If not then how should it be done? more

Resolved Question: Employee promotion dilemma?

I'm afraid that I have come to a crossroads on my decision on who to promote as president of marketing. You see, the position currently held as VP of marketing should naturally get the knod to hold seat as president, however, for certain 'colour issues', i'm afraid this persons image appears highly counter-beneficial in maximizing corporate profits. My company sells wines, and clearly, a person with the stated flaw above will never appear convincing to our high-end distributor and consumer base. Since I dont have a clear cut reason to fire this person, how can i go about generating a compelling reason to do so? By the way, I do have a candidate in mind to promote already. A luscious gal in the human resources department. more

Do wine shops sponsor these events, or the wine representatives (or are they called distributors)? If they sponsor, does that mean they will supply all the wine at no cost? Resolved Question: Questions about off-sale, privately owned liquor store...?

Does anyone have any first hand knowledge about liquor distributors/wholesalers who sell their products to a off-sale liquor store but the store is unable to sell the products and end up sitting on the inventory for months or years....Will the liquor distributors/salesperson take the products back? Or, what about "bad" products...meaning wines that have been sitting on the stores shelves and have repeated corkrot or spoilage issues. Should the dist./saleperson take those products back? I'm doing some accounting consulting work for a mom & pop off-sale liquor store which has some major inventory issues. When the store opened a liquor distributor loaded the store with only their products and now the owners are just sitting on this one salespersons inventory because they can't get the consumer to buy it....yet without turning this inventory they aren't able to buy too many new product lines that might do better in their market. Any info/advice would be appreciated. Thanks more
