Resolved Question: How to handle Ms. I have to out shine you?

I have a friend who I have known for over 6 years. She was not always like this or maybe I did not spend enough time around her in the past. I moved into her neighbor hood 2 1/2 years ago, after she had suggested it would be nice for me to live here, since I needed to find a place. After signing my lease her and her boyfriend came over to welcome me with a gift. My apartment is the same exact model as hers but was unfurnished. I like interior decoration as a my hobby, I started doing this from the age of 13. It is something I enjoy doing and I do it for no other reason. I had my friend come over once after the first time and when she saw my apartment, she said yours looks so much better than mine and after that day I noticed she didn't come over much. One night over wine she admitted that she was jealous of the fact that my apartment looked so much nicer than hers and that she stopped coming over for that. I was a bit surprised, because I don't decorate my house to please or tease anyone but myself, so I offered to help her fix her apartment up. At the time she was on a budget, but I explained to her that I could help her set her place up on a budget, like I had done with mine and so she accepted. I drew up some sketches and offered some pictures of Items I had found online that were nice but not so pricey and that would allow for us to purchase more items, however she decided she needed to have furniture from Macy's so I let her do her thing. Shortly after that she kept buying things herself and asking how I felt about the item, while mentioning how she bought it at some name brand store. She once got an IKEA catalog and gave it to me since she doesn't really shop there she said.......what the? I guess she forgot her before sofa was from IKEA. I went through a rough time last year and she was on the up and up financially, I went over for some support as I had allot of things on my mind but every time I was over there she made it a point to mention how her life is so fabulous that she is going to school making lots of money and just plain out bragging. I mean I'm happy for her but when you mention it so much, it seems like she is doing it for other reasons. I got a new cell phone and she said it was the one she wanted, I had no Idea so she went out and got herself a better one. I distanced myself some from her ever since, She ran into me back in November and saw me cleaning out my car early in the morning, and asked me what was up and I explained my car had transmission problems and that it would be to expensive to fix so I was going to trade in, after all I had that car for 6 years, I liked my car but it was necessity for me to have a working car. I bought my new car but decided not to tell her even though she blew up my phone a few times that day, I pretended to be busy. Three weeks later I received a call from her because she bought her new dining table at pottery barn and wanted me to see it and then she said :so did you get a new car"? I said yes and she asked what did you get? I said a Nissan Murano, she said the SUV, right on. I noticed her tone changed and then she had to let me go. I went over yesterday to pick up somethings she said that didn't fit her daughter anymore and that will fit my daughter and I soon as I walked in, she says "look what I got from the trash can to the new lap top, yeap she wanted to show me all and then she mentioned how her friend was planning on buying her car from her and that she might be getting a new car, she said she was looking to get an ACURA but perhaps she should stick to something she could pay off faster or maybe she can convince one of her guy friends to let her drive his Escalade a little longer and make no car payments. There is nothing wrong with her Mazda. Personally, I am to damn old to be in competition especially with someone who I thought was my friend, I have other friends and I don't have this problem I don't envy them and they don't envy me, we are happy for each other when either one succeeds. It's a new year, I'm considering writing her off all together, what do you think? more

Resolved Question: What should I give for a Secret Santa gift?

So for our company's secret santa gift exchange I got one of the high level executives as someone i have to get a gift for. It's a women, i would say early 50's, probably has a lot of money and is a little pretentious. The gift isn't a gag gift and it should add up to $20. There can be 1 - 3 gifts but they should add up to no more than $20. Any ideas? i looked online and saw a lot of business card holders and stuff but that seems kinda boring. What's hard is that i don't know if she drinks wine, or if she is a foodie, i pretty much know nothing about her.... I'll keep googling for ideas but wasn't sure if someone had an awesome idea. Thanks in advance! more

Resolved Question: Okay, we're probably going to change the date to a Sunday, is this a good budget?

$12,500 is the total, honeymoon included. This is my plan: PLATINUM PACKAGE 80 guests $6,247.74 (tax and service included) Ballroom (5.5 hr event time + 2.5hr setup) (I have no idea why they give so much time) Access to Cocktail Area / Game Room Access to Patio & Gazebo Area / Ceremony Site Access to Bridal Suite 1 Security Officer (I am keeping him/her for personal reasons) Banquet Chairs and Round Banquet Tables Chair Cover with Sash (color of choice) Table Cover with Overlay (color of choice) Skirted Head, Cake, Gift, and Registration Table Centerpiece – Glass Candle Holder on Mirror (she is upgrading it for free!) Ceiling Drapery Décor China, Glassware, and Flatware Linen Napkins (standard selection) Professional Bussing Staff Full Service Setup and Cleanup Dinner Buffet with Menu Option A Entrée (choice of 1) Starch Side Dish (choice of 1) Vegetable Side Dish (choice of 1) Salad (choice of 1) Rolls and Croissants / Tortillas Water with Ice Tea or Fruit Punch They are also setting up the outside area for guests who smoke, and giving me a deal of $150 for a fruit tree or platter and a small chocolate fountain. The venue also comes with a pool table and tvs for entertainment while we're taking pictures since it is all indoors. Now, am I missing anything from below? We're not using a limo, please don't suggest one lol $680 dress, veil, tiara, petticoat, and undergarments $350 flowers (just six attendants total for us and then our moms, his dad, and my grandparents) $100 invitations, place cards, tags (I'm getting printing for free) $50 candy bag favors (tulle bags with M&Ms in our colors, no print) $450 wine (3-4 bottles per table, it's not a sit down dinner) $300 cakes (friend is doing them for $1/slice, cutting is $1/person) $40 ‘wishing’ tree (manzanita branches and tags for wishes) $200 bride/groom pampering (nails, hair, makeup and his haircut and whatnot) $30 shoes (I'm a good shoe shopper) $950 photography (this includes 5-6 hrs, and a CD, and I think bridals and engagements as well) $275 minister (eh, I'm trying to get a friend to do this) $315 wedding party gifts (once again, small WP) $30 bridal jewelry (found a great set at DBs) $60 groom’s accessories (shoes, and whatnot) $30 postage $70 knife/cake serving set, flutes, guestbook (buying online) $50 flower girl basket and ring bearer pillow $2,500 honeymoon (not sure about this yet) We may actually have more room to save now that we're waiting a couple more weeks than planned. So does this look okay for a budget? Am I missing anything? = $12,727.74 $249.74 over budget!Janice are you high? $950 for a photographer is not bad? I did WORST case scenario here. Least amount saved, with the most I would pay towards each thing. I'm not saying we want to spend that much at all. It's just a figure! I'm $250 over, but we have two more weeks to save now, and we might have raises or bonuses before that time. We might only spend $200 on flowers or $500 on a photographer. It's just an estimate. I wanted to know if I left anything off? The honeymoon is big because we are going to an island. I keep hearing that I am spending too much on the reception and not enough on the honeymoon and now here is the opposite?! We are also staying in an upscale hotel in a large city the night of the wedding. Sooooo...Oh! My friend is going to DJ, they are also setting the mood lights and colors to auto so we can enjoy something without having to pay $75.Well some of the pricing I gave you I already had in the total. Sorry if I confused you. I've gone over it three times and I am not wrong there. I love the tips. I will definitely try to do as much myself. I am going to serve one glass per person for dinner (wine) great suggestion! I just need to find a white and red as an option maybe. Depends on the dinner I assume. Red is an aquired taste, but I enjoy it myself. As I said, this is just to get an idea. I'd love to spend less on each item. I just broke it down using my own judgement instead of percentages. They didn't work for me considering the bulk of things is already included in the package. I am going to have a small rehearsal hopefully. Probably have my family make dinner since they are dying to make dinner for the wedding, they can do this instead and I would save a lot of money have it at someone's home. Thanks again!Oh and to the answerer about the postage, I'm assuming I live in a more expensive area than you. The only other place cheaper (and decent - ie not a living room in a house or a church) was $3,300 NOTHING included. Just to rent! I am not sure about attaching postage yet, but at any rate, my #'s include dates for each person and some are large families. I'm not getting personalized M&Ms, no way. The tulle bags are maybe 20 cents each. I'm not filling them to the brim either. I want to offer something edible without hassle, but without overdoing it. I hear a lot of favors get left. I never noticed favors myself. A dinner with friends is enough for me and most the people I associate with feel the same. more

Resolved Question: I was thinking about getting my parents a nice flower vase for christmas somewhere around $40?

Im just wondering where can i find a nice glass vase for my parents on christmas? I was thinking of looking at some stores in the mall of america, do they have a pottery barn there because i looked online and it seems like they have some nice glass ones? And i also tried looking at pier 1 but it seems like those ones are kind of ugly. So it should gnerally be a funky shape, glass, clear or it can have some color, and tall. We don't have any nice flower vases at home so i thought it would be a good idea to find one for them and maybe a vase ornament or pebbles to go inside it? I know they also have vase chokers or maybe its wine chokers? Any other ideas of places to check out, or extra nice little gifts for my parents like that... Thanks and it should be around the price range of 40 or under since im buying it! :D :D more

Resolved Question: Spilt something on laptop - big dilema!!!Please help?

Hiya, Spilt something on laptop! Some background in case this helps lol - Had a celebration party, something got spilt! though shamefully I cant remember what happened, I awoke the next morning and something had been spilt on it, but had already dried. The only possibility's are white-wine or squash if that helps. My concern is - my mothers husband is an IT technician, my friend stupidly told my mother what had happened. My mother bought me the laptop as a gift and is banging on about getting him to have a look at it. I'm trying to find my real dad, which my mother is not agreeable to. There is stuff in my fave's/history that will show what I've been doing ALSO i had pages open about finding my dad, but cant remember if i shut them down/shut the laptop down before the spillage happened. To say I don't get on with my mothers husband is an understatement!!!, I know for a fact (due to him constantly accusing me) if he gets his hands on my laptop he'll be raking through it. I'm fobbing my mother off at the mo, but can only keep it up for a few more days. Ive told her I'll look it up online as i don't want his help to do it. So cant take it to a different technician as he'll want to know what the advise is i fond online as to how to fix it! If this helps - it doesn't seem to be charging up. Please help! x x more

Voting Question: Bday gifts for my boyfriend.?

he's turning 23 in two weeks and last night I ordered a couple things online, we're also taking a three day trip to California. I got him a gear shift wine stopper because he drinks wine and also his car is manual and we joke about how I could never drive it. I also got him a personalized book for him to put movie/concert/show tickets in as keepsakes because he goes to so many concerts and we save our movie tickets. Do you think these are good gifts? I'd like to buy a bottle of wine also, but I'm not a drinker, what do you recommend? more

Resolved Question: Which are the best wines on NakedWines?

Well on http://www.nakedwines.com/ I have a voucher for £25 off a crate (6 wines), and I didnt get any teachers leaving gifts, as I have now left school and going to have a gap year. Some of the teachers do deserve something good, so I was wondering if any of you know any of the wines on this site and if they are any good. Resolved Question: Does anyone have a dry mix recipe for "Wine Slushies" or "Wine-a-ritas"?

We were at a local winery and sampled their wine slushes. They had a citrus/lemonade taste and sold the dry mix with the instructions to add water and wine. This leads me to believe it could simply be country time lemonade... I haven't tried creating one yet and haven't been able to locate one online. I've found a similar product produced by "Wine-a-rita". I'd like to create a mix to give as gifts to my wino family... Any help would be great...Thanks in advance... more

Resolved Question: My Husband forgot my birthday! Was I Overreacting?

Well my birthday was two days ago... In the morning I woke up and my husband was still asleep, I was feeling so wonderful and excited for the plans for today i hopped out of bed and took a shower. Well, when i finished and came out of the bathroom my husband was awake and smiling at me, i smiled back and asked him what he was thinking.. I honestly thought it was about me for a split second. (stupid me!) He said, "promise you won't be mad, but the guys called and they wanted to go see a movie" The smile practically fell off my face. I said he could go and he thanked me and said he would be back early. I was watching the food network in the living room by myself :[ while he got dressed. He left like at 12 pm almost 1, I got up from the couch to give him a kiss goodbye but all i saw was the door slam shut behind him when I turned around..I got real sad and started to whimper as I sank back into the couch, my mom called and wished me a "happy birthday" and then gave one of her long " I remember when you..." speeches (she really does that people!) I tried not to sound upset (even though i was!) then I got calls from the rest of the family and then my friends, but still no husband. One of my friends asked "So what are you all gonna do tonight?" The words sorta hurt. I told her "Oh, probly something magical" I went to the store around 3 or so and shopped for a cake, I like mostly all cakes, but my husband is picky, so me being super nice i got his favorite cake! I went home and put the cake on the counter, put some wine that i bought in the fridge so it could chill, and sat at the table waiting for my husband to burst in with a gift. I thought maybe he was using the "friends and movies" thing as a distraction to get my guards down while he secretly shopped for an amazing gift, I was wrong. I checked our bank account online and it said he charged it at the movies. No Zales, no store at all, but instead a movie theater..I got really upset and started to cry. (hey, I couldnt help it). When i finally stopped crying enough to see the time, it was 8 something. He was gone 7 hours on MY birthday!! I called him and litterally yelled "WHERE ARE YOU!" and you wouldnt believe what he said! he said "Oh hey babe, sorry I forgot to tell you, Me and the guys got thirsty and went to a bar for a drink, But we're coming home now, the guys wanna watch that movie we bought yesterday, is it alright if i bring them over?" (there is no words to describe what i felt at that very moment) Irate would be an understatement. Then i felt nothing, I gave up and told him to do whatever and hung up. I started up a hot bubble bath to try and relax. For about 20 minutes it was calm and quiet and i was getting back to sanity. Then the front door opened and a burst of loud laughter came. My Husband came up to the bathroom and told me he was here. I was too ticked off to even acknowledge his existence i just nodded and rested my head on the back of the tub. He left LEAVING THE DOOR OPEN!!! (JERK!) I closed my eyes and tried to think of happy thoughts but my mind was blocked by the loud chatter happening downstairs. They talked about the movie they had seen that day, tv shows and other movies they wanted to see that were coming out. I couldn't take their loudness so I drained the tub and and dressed up in my nitegown and went into the bedroom, to continue my ruined birthday in peace. I locked the door and just layed on the bed with a tears in my eyes. I couldn't believe the man I love would forget my birthday when I've never forgotten his! It was supposed to be a special day and I ended up being treated like crap. I heard george ask if there was any beer, my husband told him it was in the fridge. George went to the kitchen and said there was only wine. My husband still insisted the beer was in the fridge. George asked if he could have cake. There was 2 complete seconds of silence for once. My husband said "What cake, there's cake?" and i heard his drunk heavy footsteps walk to the kitchen. the next thing i heard him say was "Why the hell would there be -OH MY GOD!" Then he yelled a whole bunch of profanities, The f'word at least 2 times and he yelled s*hit a couple of times too as he ran up the stairs. I heard his fast footsteps and i think George said "Oooh your in trouble" HE WAS RIGHT!! I heard him yell "Vanessa!" as he jiggled the door handle. "Baby im so sorry, F**k, im sorry baby, I screwed up, im sorry, open the door" he continued. He knocked a few times and continued saying he was sorry, but i didnt want to listen, (he has forgotten my birthday before, just so you dont think im going this crazy for the first time he forgot it) His friends left, i guess they didnt want any drama. for about an hour and a half he kept trying to get in and said he was sorry and that he screwed up, And that JACKASS even tried to bribe me with things we could to the next day, which wouldn't be as special as it wouldIn the morining I opened the door and found my husband laying on the floor right infront of the door.I felt bad so i gently shook him slightly unconcious and guided him to the bed.I let him sleep and closed the door behind me,i went to the living room and was watching something when i heard the door open.He walked down the stairs slowly. Then like a little doggy with its tail inbetween its legs, he came and sat down at the other side of the couch, he was quiet and sad like a little kid that got yelled at.My heart melted It was sad to see him like that but he looked so adorable at the same time. He opened his mouth like he wanted to say something, I sighed and turned off the TV.I moved close to him and laid a pillow and my head on his lap. I smiled up at him.He smiled a little side smile. Adorable! I told him it was alright and that I was sorry for being mean.Sheesh people!its not like he hasnt thrown tantrums before.Im 24 and he's 25.Hes done it before, but I still love him alot!! more

Resolved Question: Gift upon meeting his mom?

I'm dating a guy....we are not designated "bf and gf" but we are mutually exclusive, have been dating for 10 months and are in our mid-20's. His mom lives in another state than the 2 of us and she only sees her son once a year. She wants to meet me and is flying me up to visit her during his 1 visit this year. This is all happening next month. I want to bring her something, but with the new airport regulations and changes in air pressure, I'm thinking that bringing some home made baked goods is out of the question. I've thought of bringing wine or some flowers but I would like to stray away from being so cliche. I'm pretty crafty in my spare time and was thinking of making her a necklace or painting her a nice serving spoon or something...something small but personalized, a little different, but still classy. I was orig. going to paint her a nice ceramic serving spoon since she enjoys entertaining and cooking. Unfortunately the local paint-a-pot location here does not have a serving spoon and only a spoon rest (if you dont know what that is, I found an image of one online: http://www.cooking.com/images/bridal/couples/spoonrest.jpg) While I'm sure a nicely painted spoon would be fine, I am not too pleased with that alternative. What I would LOVE to do is embroider some basic linins for her the kitchen, but I do not have a machine on hand. I although thought of painting her a serving platter from the paint-a-pot but I'm afraid that would be just too big and too much...I don't know her yet and don't want to come with a big gift, just something small. So...I've been thinking about beading her a necklace (but this might be too personal) or doing some bead work on linins (although I'm thinking against this also)....as you can tell, I'm not too thrilled about these alternative ideas. Is there anything I should just BUY her? Or is there something else I can make that is small but still personal, nice and not cliche? **FYI-- yes, I'm essentially trying to give a martha-stewart type gift, haha.... more

Resolved Question: Think I might end it.?

Been dating a year and a half. 22 yrs old. Well... things have been crappy recently - It has been very hard to be passionate with my girlfriend recently because she is always in a bad mood over something and will cause an arguement or criticize me and then expect me to be happy 5 minutes later and be all over her... Specifics:: She has been saying some messed up **** to me recently... : I called her up on the way to her house and I told her how I have a lot of school work I need to get done in the next couple of days(Days we hang out). She started yelling at me and called me incompetent 2 times because apparently I hold everything off to the last minute(it's just that this semester I am flooded with work).... and then called me an asshole because I said "If you are going to call someone "incompetent" at least pronounce it right. -Went into her room.. She ignored me for 10 minutes while she was reading twilight. Then told me how she wished there was a guy out there like the main character of the book?. -Took her out to a nice dinner... -I got in a better mood and was joking around a lot and making her laugh... being all over her... Then she told me to cut it out because she was tired. Then wound up getting really pissed off at me because of it... Then when I sat there quietly and watched the movie she got pissed because I was being boring.... Then complained that I wasn't being passionate with her... It's hard to be passionate when I'm going from up to down to up to down to up to down all day and night. -Then we watched a love movie and she said how she hates them because it reminds her how real life isn't perfect like the movies. VALENTINES DAY -Wanted it to be special. -Cooked her fettucini alfredo, made chocolate covered strawberries, bought wine, layed roses all over the room, got her roses, made a trail of candles and hershey kisses leading into my room, had candles all over my room with hershey kisses around each one, bought a red satin bed cover, had romantic music going, wrote her a nice love letter, made her a movie on the computer with a slide show of our pictures with music, got her a victoria secret gift card like she asked.. The night was going great... -Then we started having and we were having an amazing time... Out of nowhere she said how she doesn't think I am attracted to her..... -Then later on she mentioned how she thinks she spent more than me on valentines day...1) what does it matter 2) I spent over 2 times the amount on her than she spent on me? ***LAST NIGHT*** -Kept saying how she wishes I was doing this differently and that differently, but i'm still a good boyfriend.. -Told me how her friend got a new car and now she has to spend a thousand dollars to get new rims because she hates when people have things that are better than her? -Got mad because my sisters husband was joking with her about us playfighting in my room... -Then she read me this poem online about "The perfect guy" on the internet and said how this is how she wishes I was.... That I am like it in some aspects but not in others? -(I am prone to anxiety attacks).. I started feeling a lot of anxiety last night and she noticed... she asked if I was okay and asked to explain how I was feeling. Told her it feels like " a wave of depression comes over you, yet you get really hyped up and start to panic, and your chest gets tight, and muscles tighten up, feel like you are going to cry, get very emotional, start to shake, throat tightens up etc.." She said "wow, I guess I have this effect on you. I guess you are all depressed because of me. Don't talk to me".... Then I just said please baby not now... "Then she said not to talk to her for the rest of the night"... I flipped out and wound up having a full blown panic attack for an hour... came back into my room and she tried to comfort me. -After that she told me how I deserve better than her and I don't need someone to put me down all the time and that she shouldn't have a boyfriend etc... * RIGHT AFTER A FULL BLOWN PANIC ATTACK*. Then in the same sentence she says she didn't mean it and loves me? *TODAY* -Tons of anxiety, told her I wasn't hanging out with her... She is furious. Wtf is going on? Going nuts here. more

Resolved Question: What are your wedding cost saving tips?

My fiance and I only have a budget of $10 000 for our wedding for 150 guests. We can't cut the list any more because my future husband has a HUGE family and there would be a lot of hurt feelings and a major uproar if we excluded anyone else. I also would like it to be a nice wedding. A back yard cook-off or a cheapo cocktail reception doesn't appeal to me (and wouldn't be fair to guest who are travelling far for our special day!). I think I can pull it off, I just need to pull out every trick in the book! Here is what we got so far: -I found a lovely banquet hall which will cost between $4000-$5000 for 150 people. This includes decorations, food, set up and take down, cake cutting, sparkling wine for toasts, etc. However, it will be a cash bar. -my fiance's uncle is a professional DJ, and will dj our reception as a wedding gift. -my fiance's family has a close friend who is a professional photographer, who will only charge us the prints of our pictures. -a cousin works at a cake decorating shop, and can give us a great price on a wedding cake (though I may look for an even cheaper option). -my fiance's father is a minister. He will be marrying us in his church so we don't have to worry about paying the officiant or renting out a ceremony venue. -I'm trying on dresses at bridal shops, then buying the dress I like online for a savings of 50%. I have had friends who have done this with a particular company and have had great success. -I will be baking sugar cookies using a bell cookie cutter (wedding bells) and decorating them with our initials and wedding date, and use them as wedding favours. -I want to make my own flower arrangements and bouquets, but I need to find a good wholesaler of either silk or real wedding flowers (preferably silk so I can make them way ahead of time to save myself stress) -I plan to make my own centrepieces but I'm not very creative so I need ideas that won't break the bank! -I hope to make my own wedding invitations and programs but I need a place that will sell inexpensive and nice card stock, envelopes, program paper! -I will have people RSVP via phone or email to save myself money on response cards and postage. Would anyone like to help me with what I have so so? Or does anyone have any other cost saving tips? Thanks. :) more

Resolved Question: Is it legal to ship 4 cases of wine to a friend in the state of Georgia via UPS? ?

Resolved Question: Which is the best Christmas idea for my boyfriend?

Okay I already have a few ideas: 1) He has a very physical job and works long hours and he mentioned that he'd like some real pajamas. Also, today he called his flip flops "slippers." I'm thinking he needs some of those real comfy plush slippers and these pajamas from brooks brothers in white with his initials embroidered above the pocket: http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=510&Product_Id=500474&Parent_Id=227&default_color=Blue I'm going for the whole relaxation comfort thing, but I'm worried it's too much of a "mom" type of gift. I've read online not to buy clothes for your boyfriend or they'll think you're their mom or something? 2) He is beginning to really get into wine (which is good because in all other areas he has already bought himself everything he wants... frustrating!). We were at Target and he said he wanted some stemless Reidel wine glasses but didn't have the money at the time. So I was thinking a set of 2 of those glasses and these wine stoppers from redenvelope with his initial on them: http://gifts.redenvelope.com/bar/silverplatedwinestoppers-30000293?viewpos=9&trackingpgroup=rbwc&ref=organicgglbrand&catid=rbwc That's all I've come up with so far. The problem is this is our first Christmas together (we've been together since January), which is stressful, so obviously I need it to be a romantic, thoughtful gift. The other problem is money, I can only afford around $100 because I'm a broke college student. On the other hand he makes a lot of money, has expensive taste, buys me expensive gifts, and has everything he wants already! Considering the circumstances are these good ideas? Why or why not? If not, other ideas? And please if you're tempted to say "it depends on the person" just skip answering... too vague for me : )Ok, I should have emphasized this a bit more... he has already bought himself xbox 360, ps3, and all the games and stuff that go along with them that he likes... besides a whole new gaming system would be out of my price anyways. lol, no he's not gay, i'm a girl so obv. I'm coming up with girly gift ideas... he just likes expensive things - he grew up with little money and works very hard and buys himself all the things he wants, so even though I can get away with cheap handmade stuff for my family, I don't think he will be very impressed. I'm sure he'd say oh it's the thought that counts and everything, but I'm more trying to get him the perfect gift for the least money, you know? I know I'm being a little idealistic, but I guess that's just what love does : ) more

Resolved Question: how can I make it up to my husband.............over spending?

I usually am not a "shopaholic". I only shop when it is needed. Groceries, gifts, clothes, household goods, furniture, pet supplies etc. is all done on a need to have basis which is rare because I don't like to shop all that much. So a week or so ago I drank a little too much, pulled out the credit card and went crazy online. Bought things I didn't even need. I just had a hankering for them while tossing back wine. Well I need to make it up to hubby. Help me gals.  more

Resolved Question: Looking for a kiwi wedding gift for a friend moving to New Zealand. Suggestions?

One of my friends is getting married this summer and is moving to New Zealand afterwards, I'd like to get her something practical, packable and available in the US/online. And it'd be silly to get her something she can get more easily herself when she arrives in Christchurch; I'm shooting for something preparatory. Any advice for maybe travel literature? Or some other work by a great kiwi author? Any idea if it would be possible to get her a gift card (for say wine or artwork) that she would be able to redeem when she arrives? BTW, her fiance is a computer techy, she works with autistic kids and I met her at a social justice class. THANKS for your help! more

Resolved Question: Shipping Alcohol through the Mail?

I have several unopened bottles of different alcoholic beverages (wine, cognac, etc.) that I got as gifts over the years. I don't drink alcohol at all (I HATE the taste!) and as some of the bottles are somewhat valuable I'm hoping to sell it online to try to get some money out of it. But the problem is how to ship it to the buyer. I know that the Post Office does not allow the shipment of wine, because it was returned when I tried to ship it in the past. I'm in Michigan, and would probably be shipping within the US. I cannot use a winery, or a wine shipping company because I have the bottles with me at home, which I am trying to get rid of - hopefully with at least a little spending money to boot. Does anyone on here know of any shipping company that definitely allows the shipment of alcoholic beverages (wine, cognac, etc.) between private individuals?? more

Resolved Question: What shipping carriers will ship wine as a gift? (no not USPS, UPS, or Fedex).?

Alright as I am learning about wine laws and shipping laws, I am hearing that DIRECT shipments of wine are regulated and often prohibited - but gift shipments (indirect shipment) are not. HOWEVER, the US Postal Service, FedEx, and UPS do not ship wines from consumer to consumer. Does anybody know who DOES (I do not want to lie about what is in the package). PS: There is no way direct ship laws will allow me to send this wine direct from the source to the destination and this winery does not sell its wine through other retailers online or in person. The ONLY way I can get my hands on this wine is if I order it from the winery as a gift to a person who then will "gift" it back to me.And add Greyhound and DHL to the list of carriers who don't do it. more

Resolved Question: Wine expert: Penfolds Grange vintage?

If there is a wine expert out there... I would like to buy a bottle of Penfolds Grange, as a very special gift to a very special person. I don't drink wine, though, so I have tried to read about this wine, but it's not the same, is it? If somebody knows about it, which vintage have you tried and you would reccommend, within a budget of about £250-300? Does anybody know of a good shop in London or more probably online where to buy it? Thanks P.S. Please, only answers from people who know what they are talking about, no links to Wikipedia etc (as I have already done this myself) more
